Engineering Manager position approved

Dear fellow Hanoverians:

The other item of note around town last week was the
approval of the Memorandum of Understanding between the School Committee and
the Board of Selectmen regarding the Engineering Manager position.  The
position was approved by a unanimous Board of Selectmen after the decision to
add a December review of the agreement was made.

Thanks to an inquiry from a reader who proved to me once
again that we are a community who cares about our town!

Hanover Youth Hockey needs help

Dear fellow Hanoverians:

Hanover
Youth Hockey

Needs
YOUR Help!

HYHA
is holding its annual golf tournament this year at Pembroke Country Club on
Friday, September 24th and is in need of some hole sponsors
($100).  The golf tournament is a key fund raiser for the organization and
we depend on its success to help offset our rising costs.

We are also looking for anything we can raffle or
auction off – such as tickets to sporting events, sports memorabilia,
restaurant gift cards, etc.  Tickets, pictures or any giveaways would be
much appreciated.

Please
contact Lara Taylor at 781-826-2613 or larataylor@comcast.net
if you are interested in sponsoring a hole and/or donating any items.  If
you are a small business owner, this is a great way to get your name out there
while supporting the kids of Hanover!!!!!

Phoenix Lodge Blood Drive

Dear fellow Hanoverians:

The summer months are typically a time when blood donations
tend to drop 10-15% due to travel, planned activities, and the absence of high
school and college blood drives. This makes maintaining the blood supply even
more challenging.

The American Red Cross and the Phoenix Lodge Masons
are partnering to help ensure that blood is available for patients in need this
August.  Donate blood at this upcoming blood drive and save up to three
lives!

Hanover – Masonic
Lodge

133 Broadway Street

Saturday, August 21

7:30 a.m. – 12:45 p.m.

Kindergarten School Bus Orientation At Library

Dear fellow Hanoverians:

Even though I am in complete
denial that the start of school is just around the corner, Hanover’s
kindergarteners will likely welcome the following information just in from the
good folks at the John Curtis Library!

The library’s annual school bus orientation will
be held on Thursday, August 26.  Children who will be entering
kindergarten in the fall are invited to meet a school bus driver, learn about
bus rules, and go for a brief

ride.  Children may gather at the library at 10:30
a.m. to listen to some stories about riding the school bus.  The bus will
arrive at 11:00, and the driver will take the children on a ride to both
elementary schools and

then back to the library.  This is a drop-in
event; no registration is necessary.  For more information, please call
the children’s room desk at 781-826-2972, extension 4, or e-mail the
children’s librarian at

lcampbell@ocln.org.

“Make a Book” at the library

Dear fellow Hanoverians:

Missed
the first “Make-a-Book” event at the library?  No
worries, there’s another one at the John Curtis Free Library on Wednesday,
August 11; drop in anytime from 1 – 3 p.m.   We’ll be
putting together a book about vehicles!

Alison
Palmucci, the former art teacher at the Center/Sylvester School (and the new
art teacher at Cedar School), will be on hand to provide you with the name of a
vehicle to draw. All the pages submitted by Hanover children will be laminated
and made into books which will be donated to the children’s room for all
kids to read. Stay for 20 minutes or the full 2 hours (parents should not leave
the library). This event is recommended for children ages 5 and up.

Can’t
make the drop-in time? Pages can also be made on your own the week following
the event. Just ask a children’s librarian for a card with the name of a
vehicle on it. Cards will be available until the supply of 50 runs out (no more
than 2 drawings per child, please). This event is funded by the Friends of the
John Curtis Free Library thanks to town support and is FREE to all
participants.  Please contact Tracy Marchetti with questions tjmarchetti@verizon.net.
