Beginning May 1st, the HPTA will draw one winner per day to receive the
prize(s) listed on the calendar for that day. If you are lucky enough to be
a winner, your name goes right back in the draw – so you could win over and
over again!

The calendar is also available at

Just in time for Mother’s Day, the Friends of the John Curtis Free Library
are very happy to announce a Mother/Daughter Tea on Saturday, May 1st from
2:00 – 4:00 p.m. at the library.

As seen at the Windsor Tea House in Cohasset and several times at the
library, Donna and Ron Lasko are back to celebrate Mother’s Day, talk about
their angel collection, offer their own gourmet blend of black tea with
ginger, and offer one lucky participant a beautiful tea-related door prize.
This is truly a charming, civilized, and fun way to spend an afternoon. You
need not be a mother to attend. All are welcome including aunts,
grandmothers, and anyone else who may be interested! Please join us and
bring your favorite tea cup for service. This event is recommended for
children ages 5 and up. Tickets are $5 each. You may purchase tickets at
the library circulation desk downstairs now. Tickets are limited to 40, so

Dear fellow Hanoverians:

The Friends of the John Curtis Free Library and the Hanover Cultural Council
are proud to sponsor two free kite-making programs on Saturday, April 24,
downstairs at the John Curtis Free Library. Don McCasland from the Blue
Hills Observatory will provide kite kits and show participants how to
construct a kite. This activity is recommended for children ages 4 – 8 with
a parent and/or age 8 and over without a parent. Please call the children’s
room at the library 781-826-2972, ext. 4 to register. There are 40 spaces
available for the first session which runs from 10:15 – 11:15 a.m., and also
40 spaces for the session that runs from 11:15 a.m. – 12:15 p.m. This
program is free and open to the public. Beginning at 11:30 a.m.,
participants and also the general public are invited to fly their kites at
the open field of Dr. Wallace Kemp, 688 Main St. This field is situated on
a hill, which affords great kite flying on a moderately windy day. The land
is part of a larger conservation area of the Wildlands Trust of Southeastern
Massachusetts. Don McCasland, program director of the Blue Hill Observatory
and an avid kite-lover, will be at the field to provide tips on kite-flying
technique. Rain date for flying the kites is Sunday, April 25th.

Dear fellow Hanoverians:

Hanover Middle School’s 7th and 8th Grade Band, under the direction of
Julienne Thornell, will be performing at the Commonwealth of Massachusetts’
State House on Thursday, April 15. The ensemble will perform a variety of
concert pieces, including The Star Spangled Banner and March of the Irish
Guard. The performance is open to the public and will take place at 11:00
a.m. This event was made possible with the support of Representative Robert
Nyman and the Hanover Parents Music Club.

Kudos to the Middle School Band.good luck and have fun!

Dear fellow Hanoverians:

The staff and students at South Shore Vocational Technical High School would
like to thank the Hanover community for the outpouring of support at this
year’s cut-a-thon. Manicures and cuts were continuous, people crowded our
schools’ hallway and salon, and the Dunkin’ Donuts basket that we raffled
went to Sue; sorry Sue we didn’t get your last name but thank you for your
contribution and enjoy the coffee! Thanks to everyone we raised $663.00.
Proceeds will benefit the Doug Flutie Jr. Foundation for Autism and the SSVT
Prom Committee. Thank you!

Dear fellow Hanoverians:

Want to be involved with a fun organization that promotes the arts,
humanities and sciences in Hanover? The Hanover Cultural Council, a branch
of the Massachusetts Cultural Council, is seeking new members. We are
allotted an allocation each year from the state to give out to the community
in the form of grants. We strive to reach as many members of the town’s
population as possible. We have granted money in the past to the John
Curtis Library, Hanover Schools, Hanover Council on Aging, Harbor Choral
Arts Society, and much more. We are the organization who runs Hanover Day
in June and Kite Day in April. We are also seeking volunteers to help us
with the planning of Hanover Day 2010 which will take place on June 26th
this year. There are small and large projects that we need assistance with
and any help you can give, even just an hour or two, would be very

Dear fellow Hanoverians:

First Congregational Church of Hanover invites you to their Good Friday
Indoor Labyrinth this Friday, April 2nd . Walk the labyrinth any time
starting at noon through 8 p.m. At 6:00 p.m. they will offer a soup
supper; everyone is welcome and there is no charge. Following the supper,
there will be special music played on bass by John Wall to set a reflective
tone as people walk the Labyrinth or sit and contemplate. The labyrinth is
located in their parish hall at 17 Silver Street in the center of town.

I love how enthusiastic so many of you are about the news that impacts you
and/or your families, or your community. I get e-mails from you day and
night, 24/7, about so many awesome events and fundraisers and bits of news.
Keep it coming! My webmaster tells me that we have grown exponentially in
the last couple of years. I am so pleased to be able to provide this
conduit! In an effort to assist you with these efforts, please know that
there are answers to frequently asked questions and guidelines for
submissions that may be found here (also 24/7): www.atotw.com . They are
also reprinted below for your information!

What will you send "Around Town on the Web"?
For those new to "ATOTW", please know that I am a volunteer who is simply
joyfully providing a service to my community. I send information regarding:

* Non-profit events in Hanover
* Events sponsored by Hanover non-profit organizations
* The Town of Hanover’s municipal government
* For-profit organizations which are providing a free community
service to Hanover residents occasionally. I do ask that for-profits use
traditional paid-for advertising. (I still enjoy reading the newspaper, and
they need the ad revenue!)
* Individual Hanover residents in need
* Significant Hanover happenings and milestones
* Hanover community safety issues.

If something I send is not of interest to you, just hit delete! I make
connections, provide a resource, and bring people together. I shout good
news from the rooftops! I hope that I encourage you to get involved, stay
involved, and help to make Hanover the tremendous, affectionate, and united
small town that it already is and will certainly continue to be with your
devoted participation.

How do I submit something to "Around Town on the Web"?

* Please write your information in a press-release format if possible
– include who, what, where, how, when, and why, and send it so that I can
simply cut and paste and send it along.
* Send it to cathyhb@atotw.com
* Please only send Word documents or information embedded in an
e-mail. Most everything else does not cut and paste well and therefore does
not read well once it goes out.
* I reserve the right to edit anything I send out, and also the right
to refuse to send something out entirely.
* With the exception of my vacation time away, your information will
usually go out within a day or two of my receipt. Please plan your
advertising campaigns accordingly.
* I don’t send reminders. I clog up people’s in-boxes enough as it is!
I will however send out revised or new information or cancellation notices
if my time permits.
* If you want my webmaster to create a link to a document on
www.atotw.com , please understand that he can, but please also allow us
three or four days total notice prior to the information going out. He’s a
volunteer, too!

Dear fellow Hanoverians:

On behalf of the Hanover Parents Music Club(HPMC), we’d like to thank the
Hanover music faculty, community members, and local businesses for their
support of our H-Town Goes Motown event (that featured performances by
talented Hanover students from the elementary, middle, and high schools) and
our month-long calendar raffle that followed. Both were successful,
increasing awareness about our schools’ exceptional music programs and
raising $4,500 to enhance the music education opportunities for students
across the system. Proceeds will be equally distributed to the elementary,
middle, and high school music programs.
