Dear fellow Hanoverians:

By now you have surely heard the terrible news about the earthquake in Haiti
and the devastation it has caused. Long-time ATOTW readers will also
remember the previous efforts of Jou Nouvo founder and Hanover resident
Kerline Tofuri to help residents of Bon-Repos, Haiti. For more information

I was so thankful to learn that Kerline’s family is safe and well, but as
she writes, she is "very anxious to hear from friends and co-workers in the
Partners in Development/Jou Nouvo projects". Kerline "was scheduled to fly
out this morning; now I am planning to go down with Partners In
Development’s medical team and a group of Haitian organizers in Somerville
on a rescue mission in the days to come".

Kerline’s further words say it best:

"Please help spread the word to the Hanover community. For the relief
efforts, I am asking for donations of gauze, bandages, antibiotics, and pain
relief medications. People who would like to donate can (e-mail me at
kerline@pidonline.org), call me (at 781-826-9164) or drop off medical
supplies at my house (168 Grove Street, Hanover). Partners In Development
has also set up an emergency relief fund for the earthquake victims in
Haiti. Donations can be made by on our website www.pidonline.org
or they can send a check payable to PID/Jou
Nouvo, PO Box 9, Ipswich, MA 01938."

Dear fellow Hanoverians:

I have been fielding questions regarding Phase II of the King Street
Recreation Complex lately and am pleased to share the Parks and Recreation
Committee’s project proposal that was submitted to the Community
Preservation Committee a couple of months ago. The CPC public hearing was
held last night, and a vote will be taken on this proposal (and many others)
at their meeting next week, Wednesday, January 20th at 7:00 p.m.

In the meantime, please take some time to download (please be patient, it is
a 6 MB file) and read (again, carve out some time, it is 27 pages long) the
application and learn about the King Street project. It can be found here:

009.pdf . As an aside but still worth mentioning, the Parks and Recreation
Committee is indebted and grateful to DPW Superintendent Victor Diniak for
his expertise and time with the application.

If the proposal is passed by CPC, we will be voting on it as a town in May
at Town Meeting. An educated voter makes the best decisions!

Great news! I am delighted to bring you this update. "Around Town on the

Thanks to an outpouring of nurse volunteers in response to a recent "ATOTW"
request, the H1N1 clinic that is scheduled for tonight, Thursday, January
14th, from 5:00 p.m. – 7:30 p.m. WILL BE HELD at the South Shore Vo-Tech
after all. That’s awesome! ATOTW readers rock!

Dear fellow Hanoverians:

The good folks of Hanover’s Boy Scout Troop 38 are coordinating an American
Red Cross Wilderness First Aid course and it is open to all Hanover
residents! You don’t have to be in Scouts to benefit from this training.
hikers, canoers, bikers, kayakers and outdoor enthusiasts (or their
parents!) will all gain from this course. Here are the details:

American Red Cross Wilderness First Aid Basics Course will be conducted over
a two day weekend.

When: January 23rd and 24th, 2010 (Saturday and Sunday)

Time: 7:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. both days

Where: Bryantville BS/S Meeting House, 30 School Street
(Route 27), Pembroke

Cost: $100 includes all training materials

The Hanover Diversity Committee and Hanover Clergy Association are once
again co-sponsoring the annual Martin Luther King, Jr. Breakfast on Monday,
January, 18, 2010. This year the event will be held at Riley Hall (across
from the First Congregational Church in the center of town), and will begin
with pancakes at 9:00 a.m., followed by a program for both adults and
children. Tickets are $5.00/person with a $15.00 maximum for families.
Guests are also asked to bring a non-perishable food item which will be
donated to the Hanover Food Pantry. Reservations for tickets may be made by
calling the office at the First Congregational Church at 781-826-4762 or by
e-mailing office@fcchanoverucc.org .

Are you a nurse? Your neighbors need you! This just in from the Board of
Health! Their words say it all:

Thanks for sending out all of our e-mails regarding the flu clinics. The
response we received for volunteers was not nearly as good as previous
clinics and at this time we do not have enough nurses to administer the
vaccine. Can you please send out a request to the residents for nurse
volunteers? Unfortunately, without nurses, this clinic won’t happen. The
H1N1 clinic that is scheduled for this Thursday, January 14th from 5:00 p.m.
– 7:30 p.m. at the SSVT is our last clinic.

Are you a nurse who is willing to help? Please e-mail health@hanover-ma.gov
TODAY! Your neighbors who need the H1N1 vaccine will be most appreciative!

HANOVER ROCKS AND SO DOES HOCKEY! Two young residents of Hanover, Manning
and Connor Morris, have entered a video contest on-line with USA Hockey and
Reebok. The Grand Prize is $2,500 in Reebok Hockey Gear and if the boys win
they have decided to donate half of the gear to Hanover Youth Hockey
Association.

Please support their efforts by going to the following link

the page and sign up (free), view "Hanover Rocks and so does Hockey" and
then vote for their video. You can vote once a day, every day. Also, every

by voting.

Last I looked, they had 212 votes and they were in 20th place. They need
your vote ASAP! The contest ends this Sunday. Vote now!

Dear fellow Hanoverians:

No H1N1 flu clinic can run without volunteers! Please respond by Monday,
January 11, 2009 @ 12:00 noon. The Board of Health has scheduled the third
H1N1 Clinic for Thursday, January 14th at the South Shore Vocational
Technical High School. The clinic will be open to the public from 5:00 p.m.
– 7:30 p.m., is open to anyone, and is not limited to Hanover residents.

As before, there are many, many areas in which we will need help, including:

Nurses – Needed in a variety of areas:

1. Vaccinators

2. Vaccination recorders – these will work in
pairs

3. Screeners

4. Vaccine inventory

5. To pre-fill syringes

Nurses – will be provided with information concerning their
professional liability protection as

well as copies of the Model Standing Orders, signed by the
Board of Health’s physician of record,

which provide the standards for H1N1 vaccination.

Support Staff – Needed in a variety of areas:

1. Greeters

2. Runners

3. Registration

If you are willing and able to help, it would mean: Nurses arrive at 4:00
p.m. and Support Staff arrive 4:15-4:30 p.m. to receive orientation in the
position you are assigned. Walkie Talkie instructions will be provided by
Hanover’s Emergency Agency for those positions requiring communication with
other areas of the Clinic.

Food, water and soft drinks will be provided.

If you can help, please respond to
health@hanover-ma.gov before Monday, January 11th by 12:00 noon. Indicate
your hours of availability and preferred duty. Schedules will be determined
to ensure smooth clinic flow. Nurses must show their Massachusetts Nursing
license the day of the clinic.

The Town of Hanover Community Preservation Committee will hold its annual
public hearing on

Wednesday January 13, 2010 at 7:00 p.m.

in the First Floor Hearing Room at Town Hall.

The purpose of this meeting will be to present the Committee’s progress to
date and to involve and gather ideas from the public on the needs,
possibilities and resources for Community Preservation in Hanover. Pursuant
to M.G.L. Chapter 44B, the CPC is charged with studying the needs,
possibilities and resources of the Town regarding community preservation, in
consultation with other municipal boards and departments. Based on public
hearings and Town studies, the CPC will make recommendations to Town Meeting
for the acquisition, creation and preservation of open space; for the
acquisition, preservation, rehabilitation and restoration of historic
resources; for the acquisition, creation and preservation of land for
recreational use; for the creation, preservation and support of community
housing; and for the rehabilitation or restoration of open space, land for
recreational use and community housing that is acquired or created as
provided for in M.G.L. Chapter 44B. All residents, members of the general
public, and any person(s) desiring to listen to the discussions or be heard
on the matter of Community Preservation are invited to attend.

Now that the holiday rush is over, it’s time to purchase your tickets for
"H-Town Goes Motown", an evening of entertainment provided by the students
of the Hanover Public Schools. In addition to the entertainment, the
evening will feature light refreshments, calendar and basket raffles. The
proceeds from this evening of entertainment will support the K – 12 music
program in the Hanover Public Schools. The cost of this fun-filled evening
is $15.00 a ticket. Please have your son/daughter return the tear off
section below with cash or a check (made payable to the H.P.M.C.) to his/her
music teacher by Friday, January 22nd in order to join us for this special
evening.
