Hanover Girl Scouts is holding a fall registration night on Monday,
September 14th from 7:00 – 8:00 p.m. at Riley Hall in Hanover Center. This
is a great time for kindergarten families to get their daughters signed up
for a fun year. We also welcome girls of all ages to join as well.
Additionally, we are looking to add parent volunteers and will have
information for girls and adults. Further questions may be directed to

On-line registration for HYAA-sponsored winter basketball and spring soccer
has begun! Go to www.hyaa.net for more information or to register. While
you are there, check out the new website designed by Rich Shisler and Kathi
Thomson!

New this year will be a winter soccer program that is run by the South Shore
Sports Center, but that HYAA will provide particulars on.

For more details, information about multi-child discounts, or to register
your child in-person, go to one of the two in-person registration sessions
scheduled to be held at Hanover Middle School on either Tuesday, September
15th or 22nd from 7:00 – 8:30 p.m.

Dear fellow Hanoverians:

The Hanover Cultural Council has set an October 15, 2009 postmark deadline
for organizations, schools and individuals to apply for grants that support
cultural activities in the community.

According to Council spokesperson Katie Duff, these grants can support a
variety of artistic projects and activities in Hanover — including
exhibits, festivals, short-term artist residencies or performances in
schools, workshops and lectures.

The Hanover Cultural Council will also entertain funding proposals from
schools and youth groups through the PASS Program, which provides subsidies
for school-age children to attend cultural field trips.

The Hanover Cultural Council is part of a network of 329 Local Cultural
Councils serving all 351 cities and towns in the Commonwealth. The LCC
Program is the largest grassroots cultural funding network in the nation,
supporting thousands of community-based projects in the arts, sciences and
humanities every year. The state legislature provides an annual
appropriation to the Massachusetts Cultural Council, a state agency, which
then allocates funds to each community.

This year, the Hanover Cultural Council will distribute about $4,000 in
grants. Previously funded projects include: visiting artist at Hanover High
School, "Swing This Spring" for the Hanover COA, Piano concerts at the John
Curtis Library, "Home for the Holidays" brass concert at St. Andrew’s Church
and more.

educational awareness of the music programs in the schools among parents and
the community, and to advocate for excellence in music education on behalf
of the children of the Hanover Schools. We invite and encourage parents of

Dear fellow Hanoverians:

HYAA announces girls travel basketball tryouts for 4th – 8th graders will be
held starting Monday, September 21st at Hanover Middle School. Prior to
tryouts there will be supervised open gym time at Cedar Elementary School.
Each grade group will have selected times, as listed below, to participate.

The purpose of the tryouts is to select two teams per grade to compete
against other South Shore towns. Girls travel basketball requires a big
commitment and the teams are competitive. Teams will play approximately 30
games and have two practices per week starting in October and going through
the end of March. In addition to the regular season games, teams may play
in various tournaments, which are typically during school vacation weeks or
holidays.

Tryout format:

An experienced five-judge board will evaluate each respective group.
Parents are not allowed in the gym while the tryout is taking place. Two
teams will be selected for each grade group. Team roster size will be
determined on a team-by-team basis. Team rosters for all grades will be
posted on the HYAA website on Saturday, September 26th.

2009/2010 Travel fees approximately (fees do not include tournament costs):

$250 for all players and $275 if a uniform is required.
