Dementia Friends educational program

Dear fellow Hanoverians:

The Hanover Senior Center is presenting an educational program about
dementia. This program will to be held Wednesday, March 30, 2022, at 4:30
p.m. at the Center at 665 Center Street. Please sign-up using
myactivecenter.com or call 781-924-1913 to register.

Dementia Friends is a global movement that is changing the way people
think, act, and talk about dementia. Developed by the Alzheimer’s Society
in the United Kingdom, the Dementia Friends initiative is underway in
Massachusetts. By helping everyone in a community understand what dementia
is and how it affects people, each of us can make a difference for people
touched by dementia.

To become a Dementia Friend, you participate in a one-hour Dementia Friends
information session offered by a Dementia Friends Champion. You will learn
five key messages about dementia and a bit about what it’s like to live
with dementia. As a Dementia Friend, you turn your new understanding of
dementia into a practical action that can help someone with dementia living
in your community. Your action can be as big or as small as you choose –
because every action counts!

The goal of the Hanover COA staff is to train as many staff, residents, and
business owners as possible, in Hanover and the surrounding towns, to
become Dementia Friends.

Classes are held monthly on the last Wednesday of the month at 4:30 p.m.
For questions or further information, call the Hanover Senior Center at
781-924-1913 or e-mail patty.walker@hanover-ma.gov .

Submit your questions now for Candidates’ Night!

Dear fellow Hanoverians:

Candidates’ Night, sponsored by Hanover Woman’s Club, Juniors will take
place on Tuesday, April 26 at 7:00 p.m. The forum will once again be held
as a Zoom webinar. Candidates’ Night is an annual event hosted by the club
that features candidates running for office in Hanover. The program
consists of a short presentation by each candidate running for a town
office followed by a question-and-answer period led by moderator MaryAnn
Brugnoli. The forum is open to the public for viewing on Zoom or local
cable TV giving those watching a chance to hear the views of the candidates
on important issues affecting the town. Hearing the candidates in this
setting will give town residents the opportunity to cast an educated vote
in the town election on Saturday May 7. With nine open positions for town
office, it should be a lively and informative meeting. Open positions
include (1) Board of Selectman, (1) School Committee, (1) Board of
Assessors, (1) Planning Board, (1) Board of Health, (1) Library Trustee for
a three-year term and (1) Library Trustee for 1 year remaining of unexpired
term, (1) Town Clerk and (1) Town Moderator.

The public may submit questions for the candidates to the club’s email
address at hwcj1970@yahoo.com. Questions should be directed to a specific
candidate if it pertains to the office they are pursuing. General
questions can go to any of the candidates. Questions will be checked for
appropriateness and duplicity. Deadline for questions to be submitted to
the e-mail address is April 18.

The Zoom link for the general public will be available in future publicity.
