Post-Thanksgiving Open Space walk

Dear fellow Hanoverians:

This just in from the Open Space Committee!

Come explore Hanover’s newest open space: November 25th, 11:00 a.m.
Need a way to burn off some turkey and pie? Avoiding Black Friday
crowds? Please join Hanover’s Open Space Committee (OSC) on Friday,
November 25th at 11:00 a.m. while we ramble over and around the 26
acres that we voted to acquire at 2011 Town Meeting. Located off of
Circuit Street, this lovely parcel was formerly managed as a tree
farm, and offers a variety of terrains for everyone to enjoy.

The OSC members will offer guided walks around the pond, through the
existing wide dirt paths, on established trails, and for the more
daring, venture further into the canopy for the site of future trails
on the site. The property is located on the south side of Circuit
Street between Hillside Drive and Winslow Street. There is limited
parking on the front of the property, on Circuit Street. Be sure to
bring your thinking caps, as the committee wants your ideas for a
permanent name for the parcel.

Reminder: the Hanover Open Space Committee is on the lookout for
individuals and groups from our community that want to take an active
role in our trails and open spaces. In conjunction with our existing
trail walks, we will host a series of volunteer events in the coming
year. We are happy to tailor events for a group, or provide
opportunities for folks that have a particular interest.

Volunteer Positions can vary from reporting on trail conditions,
monitoring wildlife, offering to give a tour on your favorite trail:

A few opportunities we can currently offer:
· Trail Maintenance and Monitoring. Keep us up to date on your local
trails’ conditions and use.
· Help install improved trail signage and marking at locations
throughout town.
· Historical research of open spaces throughout town
· Bird nest box monitoring at Nava Field on Center Street.
· Vernal pool certifications. With little more than a clipboard and a
camera you can help us officially certify some of the potential vernal
pools in town.
· Other ideas, let us know!

Of course for some volunteer opportunities, there are specific skill
sets that would be important for a prospective volunteer to possess.
But today the most important qualities are curiosity, willingness to
take responsibility, and a willingness to learn about these wonderful
properties and all they contain.

Come join us, and be a part of promoting Hanover’s best assets to
our community. Please send your full name, address, telephone and/or
e-mail to hanoveropenspace@gmail.com
