Spirit of Hanover Community Service Award notice of award

Dear fellow Hanoverians:

The Spirit of Hanover Community Service Award Committee is proud to
announce that JUDITH-ANN “Judy” GRECCO has been selected as the
recipient of the 12th Annual Spirit of Hanover Community Service
Award.

This Award is presented annually to an individual who best exemplifies
the Spirit of Hanover by voluntarily giving selflessly of their time,
energy and talent to the Town and its citizens thus enriching our
lives, fostering a true sense of community and inspiring us all to a
higher level of service.

With the exception of a single month’s residency in Whitman which
she learned about later in life, Judy Grecco is a life-long resident
of the Town of Hanover. Judy attended the Salmond School and graduated
from “the new” High School in 1965, married her high-school
sweetheart Joe and raised two daughters. Much of Judy’s revered
knowledge of the outdoors originated with her grandfather, Harry
Gardner. Judy and husband Joe live in the Gardner family house on East
Street to this day. As a member of the Open Space Committee and the
North and South Rivers Watershed Association, Judy has led numerous
hikes and raised public awareness of our open spaces, including the
annual hike at the Fire Museum, all the while patiently teaching the
next caretaking generations of Hanover residents. She has served on
the Board of Directors and is the current co-president of the Hanover
Historical Society, thereby presiding over the organization’s 85th
year. Her love of history and the outdoors can be seen in the historic
exhibits at the John Curtis Library, Hanover High School, the
sought-after historic building cut-outs at the Stetson House, and
while she makes and sells wreaths every Christmas at the Stetson
House. Judy is also a member of the Walnut Hill Garden Club and the
Council on Aging.
