Proposal would change hunting policy

Dear fellow Hanoverians:
On Wednesday, February 5 at 7:00 p.m., the Conservation Commission
will hold a meeting at town hall to discuss a proposal to revise the
hunting policy in the Town of Hanover. The proposed changes would be
to open all Town properties under the Conservation Commission’s
control for bow hunting as defined in State Department of Fisheries
and Wildlife Hunting Regulations. Areas with active recreation such as
Luddam’s Ford and Forge Pond Park would be excluded. The proposal
would permit hunting in the spring, fall and winter, since bow hunting
is allowed for more than just deer hunting (such as turkey and
coyote).
Currently bow hunting for deer is allowed on the Summer Street and
Clark Bog site. This proposed change would allow for bow hunting in
areas such as Colby Phillips, Fireworks, Merry property (behind the
Fire Museum on Broadway), Pine Island Trails and Indian Head/Riverside
land. These areas have numerous walking trails that are used by Town
residents throughout the year. If you have thoughts about the impact
of the proposed changes, please plan to attend the meeting.
