Dear fellow Hanoverians:
In an unusual but nonetheless heartening show of interest in our town’s
governance, scores and scores of Hanover residents filled the Large Hearing
Room of Town Hall this evening (Monday as I write this) to discuss the
potential privatization of the town’s transfer station. At the start of
the hearing, the room was filled to capacity and additional chairs were
brought in to attempt to accommodate the large number of standees.
The Selectmen proceeded to introduce the issue, Hanover resident and
Recycling Solutions, Inc. business co-owner Michael Mowbray introduced
himself and proposal, and Recycling Solution’s engineer discussed the
design. At the conclusion of the presentation, it became apparent that
there were a large number of people still standing in the hallway and
unable to hear the proceedings.
Concerns were raised regarding the capacity of the room and fire safety
issues. With safety in mind, the Selectmen voted to close the hearing and
continue discussion of the issue at Town Meeting. An article appears on
the Annual Town Meeting Warrant that requests that the Town offer a
non-binding opinion on the efficacy of the privatization of the transfer
station. It appears as Article 41 of the 66 article warrant.
Annual Town Meeting begins Monday, May 5th at 8:00 p.m., immediately
following the Special Town Meeting that begins at 7:30 p.m. Both meetings
will be held at the Hanover High School. The Annual Town Election will be
held Saturday, May 10th from 8:00 a.m. – 6:00 p.m. also at Hanover High
School. See you there! Your interest in our town is commendable; let’s
keep it up!
