This news just in from our Town Planner, Peter Matchak!
I would like to take this opportunity to invite all Hanover residents to
the Center Cemetery on Tuesday, July 14th at 5:00 p.m. to showcase the
ongoing headstone restoration work which is being completed within
Hanover’s three historic cemeteries. This past spring, Hanover contracted
with Monument Conservation Collaborative, LLC (MCC) for the restoration of
historic headstones in the town’s three historic cemeteries, as outlined
in the 2010 Hanover Cemeteries Preservation Plan. Restoration work began in
2012 with the conservation of 142 headstones in Center Cemetery. Over the
past two months MCC has completed treatment work in both the West Hanover /
Darling Cemetery and the Assinippi Cemetery (please see the links below)
and is currently working to conserve 310 headstones and markers in Center
Cemetery. Representatives from MCC will be on hand to help guide
attendees, showcase completed work, and explain conservation and
restoration techniques. Please see the attached invitation concerning the
Center Cemetery walk.
