Hanover Cultural Council seeks funding proposals

Dear fellow Hanoverians:

The Hanover Cultural Council has set an October 15 postmark deadline for
organizations, schools and individuals to apply for grants that support
cultural activities in the community.

According to Council spokesperson Karen Cass, these grants can support a
variety of artistic projects and activities in Hanover — including
exhibits, festivals, field trips, short-term artist residencies or
performances in schools, workshops and lectures.

The Hanover Cultural Council is part of a network of 329 Local Cultural
Councils serving all 351 cities and towns in the Commonwealth. The LCC
Program is the largest grassroots cultural funding network in the nation,
supporting thousands of community-based projects in the arts, sciences and
humanities every year. The state legislature provides an annual
appropriation to the Massachusetts Cultural Council, a state agency, which
then allocates funds to each community.

Over the past year, the Hanover Cultural Council distributed over $17,000
in grants. Previously funded projects include: The Council on Aging Holiday
Concert, “The Sound of Music” production at Hanover High School, The
Dinner Theater program at SSVT, “Playhouses for Humanity” –building
project at HHS, The Nature’s Classroom project at Center and Sylvester
Schools, several museum passes and programs at the John Curtis Library, and
a writing workshop at the Hanover Middle School, “Wicked Weird Story
Starters”, to name just a few!

The FY16 Allocation to Hanover from the Mass Cultural Council is $4700, and
additional funds are available, thanks to the tireless efforts of our
Hanover Day Committee. The spectacular success of Hanover Day, our annual
town celebration which features an incredible array of live entertainment,
150 artisans and vendors, a community art project and contest, countless
children’s activities and fireworks, we are proud to give back to the
community in the form of additional funding for worthy arts and sciences
projects throughout the year! The Hanover Cultural Council is looking
forward to reviewing the next round of exciting proposals for 2016.
