Dear fellow Hanoverians:
Do you have stuff that’s too bad for the trash?
South Shore Recycling Cooperative will host a household hazardous waste
collection this fall.
Collection is scheduled from 9:00 a.m. – 1:00 p.m. (rain or shine) on
10/17 at Hanover Transfer Station, 118 Rockland Street.
Recyclable latex paint** also accepted
Residents may attend at no charge.
Commercial generators, call ahead to 1-617-852-3086 to arrange disposal and
payment. Please bring a check.
Bring: Oil based paint*, stains*, automotive fluids*, solvents, gasoline,
herbicides, pesticides, photography and pool chemicals, acids, bases, and
toxins in secure, labeled containers.
Do not bring: industrial, pathological and medical* waste, radioactive
materials, pressurized gas cylinders* or explosives.
*Oil based paint, propane tanks, motor oil, antifreeze, medical sharps,
rechargeable batteries, and fluorescent lamps are collected regularly by
many towns and retailers. Residents should use those services if
available. Go to ssrcoop.info, click on “Other Stuff”.
**Latex paint is not hazardous, just messy. Usable latex paint (still
liquid, stored indoors, no chunks, no smell) will be accepted for recycling
by The Paint Exchange LLC. For more information call 339-214-8462, or go to
RecycleReuseRepaint.com. TPE also accepts latex paint at their Rockland
facility for $2/can. If not recyclable, absorb liquid with cat litter and
dispose in trash. Stericycle Environmental will conduct the collection.
For more information, call the South Shore Recycling Cooperative at
781-329-8318, or go to ssrcoop.info, click on “Hazardous Waste”.
