Hanover Cultural Council’s call for grant proposals

Dear fellow Hanoverians:

Proposals for community-oriented arts, humanities, and science programs are
due October 15, 2017!

The Hanover Cultural Council has set an October 15 postmark deadline for
organizations, schools and individuals to apply for grants that support
cultural activities in the community.

According to Council spokesperson Karen Cass, “these grants can support a
variety of artistic projects and activities in Hanover — including
exhibits, festivals, field trips, short-term artist residencies or
performances in schools, workshops and lectures”.

The Hanover Cultural Council is part of a network of 329 Local Cultural
Councils serving all 351 cities and towns in the Commonwealth. The LCC
Program is the largest grassroots cultural funding network in the nation,
supporting thousands of community-based projects in the arts, sciences and
humanities every year. The state legislature provides an annual
appropriation to the Massachusetts Cultural Council, a state agency, which
then allocates funds to each community.

This year, the Hanover Cultural Council will distribute about $25,000 in
grants. Previously funded projects include: The Summer Concert Series at
Forge Pond Park in collaboration with the Parks and Recreation Department,
The Drama Club Dinner Theater & “Brass Lantern After Dark” programs at
SSVT, funding for a wireless microphone system for the Hanover Performing
Arts Company, The Bats and Bat Houses project at Center and Sylvester
Schools, Pastel Painting Workshop, “Just For TEENS” Art Exhibit,
several museum passes and children’s programs at the John Curtis Library,
sponsorship of traffic island beautification projects by the Hanover Garden
Club, Mass Audubon and S.S. Natural Science Center Community projects, to
name just a few!

The FY18 Allocation to Hanover from the Mass Cultural Council has not been
officially announced yet, but will be made available at the end of
September, and additional funds are available, thanks to the tireless
efforts of our Hanover Day Committee. The success of Hanover Day, our
annual town celebration which features an incredible array of live
entertainment, carnival rides, artisans and vendors, a community art
project, juried art exhibit, anchor art contest, 3 v. 3 Basketball
Tournament, countless children’s activities and culminating in a
spectacular fireworks display allows us to give back to the community in
the form of grants for worthy arts, science and humanities projects
throughout the year!
