Dear fellow Hanoverians:
Did you receive your Hanover Permanent Scholarship Fund (HPSF) mailer this
week? In my core, my academic background, and in my work life, I am an
educator. So much of what I do with “Around Town on the Web” is
education.for a new generation of tech-savvy and time-deprived working
Hanover families. If you are like me, and despite much better intentions,
that mailer is buried under a pile already. So it seems only fitting to use
this space to highlight the HPSF.
“If you agree that Hanover is a special place and that the young people of
our community deserve to pursue their dreams, we hope you will lend your
support.” (from the HPSF brochure).
The scholarships given by the Hanover Permanent Scholarship Fund will go to
defray the extraordinary expenses awaiting this year’s Hanover High School
seniors. Many of you worked hard to support HHS-Yes! and to make the new
high school a reality for Hanover’s Middle School and elementary school
students. Left out of the benefit of the new high school, however, will be
the young people graduating from Hanover High School this year and next.
Let’s not forget them! The Hanover Permanent Scholarship Fund awards
scholarships based on both academic achievement as well as financial need.
In this economy, can you imagine how difficult it will be for Hanover
families to pay that first year’s tuition bill? I am shuddering at the
thought.
