Dear fellow Hanoverians:
After fielding a few phone calls from confused Hanoverians this past week,
I thought the following e-mail might be of interest and assistance.
First, as a result of the emergency legislation signed by the Governor on
July 6th, there are now technically 4 ways to vote in the September 1st
Primary (or the November 3rd General Election, for that matter).
1) Vote by Mail. All registered voters in MA were sent a postcard on or
around July 15th inviting them to check off boxes in response to the “I
Want to Vote” heading. That postcard is considered an application. Fill
it out and send it in. We’ll mail you back a ballot. 1,942 ballots were
mailed this week. There are currently still about 150 to go out.
Wondering where your ballot is? Go to
http://atotw.com/maillist/lt.php?tid=xDTs2r0WpOq+cjcdTcMKAdsvOCiMqBaGvHZNKCXmTq9oqLt7nDMYRqoN783ZLADJ
. As an added benefit, here in Hanover, if you fill out your application
incorrectly, we’ll even mail you a letter helping you to re-submit. Stay
tuned for news about our new secure ballot drop box, too!
2) Vote Absentee in-person. Show up at the Town Clerk’s Office (we just
got ballots – so just starting just the other day!) Monday – Friday from
8:00 a.m. – 12 noon or 6:00 p.m. – 8:00 p.m. on Wednesday night and
fill out an absentee in-person application. You can vote right then and
there if you meet certain criteria. Go to
http://atotw.com/maillist/lt.php?tid=AVY3XvSSPKyAWEM5S8howNsvOCiMqEaGvHZNKCXmTq9oqLt7nDOYRqoN783ZLADJ
for more information and to see if you meet those criteria.
3) Vote Early in-person. In-person Early Voting is available to anyone, as
follows: Saturday, August 22nd, 12:00 – 4:00 p.m.; Sunday, August 23rd,
12:00 – 4:00 p.m.; Monday, Tuesday and Thursday, August 24th, 25th, and
27th, 8:00 a.m. – 4:00 p.m., Wednesday, August 26th, 8:00 a.m. – 8:00
p.m., or Friday, August 28th, 8:00 a.m. – 12 noon. In-person Early
Voting is held at Hanover Town Hall in the large hearing room on the first
floor.
4) Vote on Election Day, Tuesday, September 1st. Polls are open at Hanover
High School from 7:00 a.m. – 8:00 p.m. See you there!
While all of these dates just apply to the September 1st primary, please
know that there will be similar dates in October in advance of the November
3rd General Election. The four options will remain.
Don’t let COVID-19 make you choose between your health and your right to
vote. You’ve got options. Vote! Call me, Town Clerk Catherine
Harder-Bernier at (781) 826-5000 x1079 with your questions.
