Dear fellow Hanoverians:
Despite my very public predictions to the contrary, Hanover’s Special and
Annual Town Meetings finished in one night this evening. Among other
highlights, we voted to add $650,000 to this fiscal year’s school
department budget, we banned digital signs going forward, and the decision
to light up Forge Pond Park passed without a peep. We were even done with
the $70 million-dollar general budget article before 8:30 p.m. Shout out
to the Advisory Committee, School Committee and Department, Finance
Director and the Town Manager on their hard work on that latter article, in
particular!
Historians in town surely will applaud the decision to get James Ludden’s
name right and to preserve our historic weights and measures set. We
updated several sections of the zoning by-law and purchased public safety
and public works vehicles. And I bet all of us will look forward to the
municipal aggregation study that may just save us money on our electric
bills if all goes according to plan.
We now move on to the Annual Town Election, which will be held on Saturday,
May 13, from 8:00 a.m. – 6:00 p.m. at Hanover High School. See you there!
