Union Cemetery: Burial Ground of the Early Republic
Union Cemetery in Assinippi on the line between the Towns of Hanover and
Norwell is a small burying ground established just a few years after the
American Revolution. Within its bounds can be found the dramatic changes
that occurred in burial and mourning customs in the early years of the
United States. This tour will look at the landscape, gravestones, and
funeral customs of the period between the Revolution and the Civil War.
Tour will last an hour, rain or shine.
