Last Day to Register to Vote at the Special Town Meeting

Dear fellow Hanoverians:

Hanover Town Clerk Catherine Harder-Bernier announced that Friday, November
28th is the last day to register to vote during the December 8th Special
Town Meeting. The Town Clerk’s Office will be open until 2:00 p.m. on
November 26th, and the Hanover Police Station will be open until 5:00 p.m.
on November 28th, and on-line registration will be available until 11:59
p.m. on the 28th. Please come to Town Hall or the Police Station if you
need to register in person. Read on for on-line registration information!

Any Hanover citizen who will be eighteen on or before the December 8th
Special Town Meeting is encouraged to register to vote. Once registered,
individuals will be eligible to vote in all elections thereafter. Further,
residents may “pre-register” to vote if they are age 16 or 17, but they
will not be eligible to vote until they turn 18.

Citizens of Hanover may conveniently register to vote or change their party
status on-line, by mail or in person. The link for on-line registration is

. If residents choose to register by mail they should download the
“Massachusetts Mail-In Voter Registration Form” found here:

and mail the completed form to the Hanover Town Clerk’s Office.

If voters wish to register to vote in person, they may do so at two
convenient locations: Hanover Town Hall or the Registry of Motor Vehicles.
“With automatic registration now the law of the land in Massachusetts,
very few people actually need to come in to register to vote”, said
Harder-Bernier. “However, what we do occasionally see is that people who
have moved recently and/or who have not updated their driver’s license –
those people do need to update their voter registration status. We also
sometimes see 18 year-olds who do not yet have driver’s licenses who need
to register to vote. We look forward to helping those folks!”, said
Harder-Bernier.
