Dear fellow Hanoverians:
An impressive 302 people showed up at Hanover High School on one of the
coldest nights of the year so far this winter to spend exactly 26 minutes
not debating a single one of the five articles on the Special Town Meeting
warrant on Monday night.
Congratulations to all of us for showing up and showing that we care, and
further and deeper thanks to the members of the Planning Board, Advisory
Committee and Select Board for their thorough review of some potentially
challenging issues. Their guidance and hard work, along with that of our
skillful Moderator, was what made Town Meeting flow so smoothly and quickly
this evening.
For those on the sideline just looking to catch up, Town Meeting approved
an amendment to our zoning by-laws that created a new multi-family overlay
district called “MBTA Zoning” at Hanover Crossing and closed out some prior
year authorizations. The latter item will help us to clean up our books
and return some monies to free cash and rescind some unneeded borrowing.
The former item passed without a single comment from those outside of the 3
aforementioned committees.
Town Meeting also chose to not appropriate money for legal fees related to
the MBTA zoning article, nor pass an article regarding a recall provision
of elected officials after the petitioner recommended it be withdrawn.
