Dear fellow Hanoverians:
Hanover Town Clerk Catherine Harder-Bernier reminded residents today that
2026 Town of Hanover dog licenses are now available on-line, via the front
door mail slot, or by US mail. The licensing period is January 1, 2026 –
March 31, 2026, and a $10 late fee applies beginning April 1, 2026. All
dogs over the age of 6 months are required by law to be licensed.
There are several types of licenses; your dog’s rabies vaccination
expiration date and spaying/neutering status and your age all dictate which
one your dog is eligible for. If your dog’s rabies vaccination expires in
2026 or 2027, a one-year tag costs $10 for spayed or neutered dogs, and $15
for intact dogs. New just last year – dogs with a rabies vaccination
expiration date of 2028 or 2029 are eligible for a three-year tag! Save
$10 over the three-year period by requesting a three-year tag at $20 for a
spayed or neutered dog or $35 for an intact dog! And finally, residents
over the age of 70 will be given a free license for their rabies-vaccinated
dog upon proof of the owner’s age.
There are several easy ways to license your dog.
• Use the on-line system found here:
http://atotw.com/maillist/lt.php?tid=CeqUqVhGrS6jBgU9VvP7JQDE2muR/wWxmK6ati9WkVBoqLt7nDMoRqoN783ZLADJ
Your tag will be mailed to you upon our acceptance of your application and
successful payment.
• Residents may also fill out the dog license application that is found
on the Town Clerk’s section of the Town of Hanover’s website at:
http://atotw.com/maillist/lt.php?tid=lQM1HrJQsVWu3J6M1+5MCwDE2muR/1WxmK6ati9WkVBoqLt7nDPoRqoN783ZLADJ
. This is the same application that was included in the census mailing
this year. Completed forms may be dropped in the front door mail slot or
US mailed in with your payment, proof of current rabies vaccination and
proof of spaying or neutering (if you have not submitted that information
previously) to the Town Clerk’s Office and your tag will be mailed back
to you.
Due to the high volume of dog license applications, please be patient with
us for the return of your tag. Unlicensed dogs are subject to a minimum of
a $25 fine, with an additional $25 fine if unleashed and another fine of
$50 if unvaccinated for rabies, but if you are in the “queue” by March
31st, you are all set. If you have questions or need more information
about the licensing of your dog in Hanover, please call the Town Clerk’s
Office at (781) 826-5000 x1079 or e-mail dogs@hanover-ma.gov . Kennel
owners are encouraged to call or e-mail also, as their licensing process
requires an inspection and other additional paperwork.
