Hanover’s Jou Nouvo creates partnership

Dear fellow Hanoverians:

Regular readers will remember last spring’s school supply fundraiser led by
Hanover’s own Kerline Tofuri, founder of Jou Nouvo, in conjunction with the
Lutheran Church Sunday School here in town. Jou Nouvo, founded in 2008, got
its start by offering an adult literacy class to ten women in Bon Repos,
Haiti, a poverty-stricken community located 12 kilometers west of
Port-au-Prince. The inspiration for the venture came to Ms. Tofuri, a
Haitian native and Hanover transplant, during a visit back to Haiti. In the
24 years since she had left Haiti, she noticed a drastic change in the
community; children were not in school, rates of unemployment had risen, and
people had little access to health care.

"Around Town On The Web" is delighted to bring good news to you from Mrs.
Tofuri and Jou Nouvo. Partners In Development, Inc., an Ipswich-based
non-government-based organization, has joined with Jou Nouvo to provide
direct services to Bon Repos. PID/Jou Nouvo-specific projects will include
increased access to medical care, loans for small businesses, as well as
adult literacy and child sponsorship programs.

According to Gale Hull, Executive Director of Partners In Development, Inc.,
the partnership will further PID and Jou Nouvo’s core philosophies of
bringing resources to the extreme poor by equipping individuals and
communities with the resources that empower their families and their
futures.

outstanding news. J
