December – January Parks and Rec Programs

Dear fellow Hanoverians:

This just in from the good folks at Hanover Parks and Rec!

We are nearing the end of our "Fall Brochure" but still have a few programs
left, along with a couple of programs not in the last booklet. To register
for all programs, please register online at

Winter/Spring brochure; if there are any special programs you would like to
see, please feel free to contact Marc Craig at recreation@hanover-ma.gov .

CPR Training- Town Hall

This course is AHA certified and offers a comprehensive program to
train the individual and will also include training with the use of an AED
(Automated External Defibrillator). Get your CPR certification in just one
night.

Class Dates 12/1/09

Class Fee: $50.00 6:00 to 9:00 PM

WINTER ZUMBA – Hanover Police Boys Club

Offset those holiday treats and festive calories by attending a Zumba class
this winter. Zumba fuses hypnotic latin and international rhythms, with
easy-to-follow moves, to create a dynamic fitness program that will blow you
away. Why tolerate a boring workout routine when you can have a blast
dancing your way to a healthier you? Join Hanover resident, Jennifer Lloyd,
at the Hanover Boys Club on Tuesday nights. This workout is for all fitness
and experience levels.you’ll see, there is nothing to be afraid of. Feel

Tuesdays 7:30-8:30 p.m.

Winter Session: December 1 – February 9 (no session class on December 29)

This 10-week session is $80 (or $10 per class to drop in). Please make
checks made payable to Hanover Parks & Recreation or register online at

DIGITAL CAMERA WORK SHOP- Just in time for your holiday shopping, Hanover
Parks & Rec is offering a two hour workshop designed to help you choose the
right digital camera for your needs. A selection of digital cameras will be
on hand for participants to handle and test, and a professional photographer
will be offering advice and answering questions about digital camera
products. The Rec Department is working with a local camera shop to offer
discounts on camera purchases. The workshop will be held Wednesday evening,
December 2nd at the Town Hall from 7-9pm. The cost is $20 per participant

Lego Days- John Curtis Free Library

The hugely popular Lego Days program is back!! Children get
to have fun playing with Legos and building cool things while parents have
fun with an afternoon to themselves. This program is designed for Elementary
School aged children.

Cost: $ 7 per day

Date: December 8th, 2:00 – 4:00 p.m.

( We will also be offering a FULL Lego Day 8-4 on Martin Luther King
Day!!!!!!!!!!! Stay tuned for our Winter/Spring Brochure)

Babysitting Course- Police Station

This one day course is designed to assist 5th-7th graders in
being better babysitters and knowing the do’s and don’ts of being home
alone. The course will cover information on child development, playing with
younger children, basic first aid, fire safety and prevention, and the
overall responsibilities of babysitting.

Instructor: Kimberly Cleary, a registered nurse and mom.

Limited to 18 pre-registered students, fee $15.

Cost: $15

Date: Saturday December 5th 9 a.m. – 12 noon

Holiday Party -Town Hall

This Holiday Party is designed for elementary aged children
(k-4). Children come to the Town Hall for some fun Holiday music and games
then watch a fun Holiday movie. Parents also get some much deserved time off
while their children are supervised by the great Park and Rec staff.

Cost: $10

Date: December 18th 6:30-9:00 p.m.

Winter Teen Extreme

Winter Vacation Camp

A one week program designed for students in grades five through eight. Will
be held during the week of Christmas Break (December 28th through December
31st). On non field trip days, the students will be at Hanover Boys Club
(behind the Town hall); kids can participate in arts and crafts, sports,
board games, and many other activities. The program will be 9:00am until
2:00 pm on Monday and Wednesday. Times of the field trips may vary.
Wednesday may also include a trip to Strawberry Valley for Sledding (Weather
Permitting).

Tuesday December 29, 2009:
Snow Tubing at Amesbury Sports Park
Amesbury Sports Park provides one of the fastest-growing winter recreational
activities at the largest tubing park in New England! Seven lanes are
maintained by Amesbury’s experienced grooming fleet, the park provides ideal
tubing conditions for thrill seekers of all ages.
Time: 8:30 a.m. – 3:00 pm

Thursday December 31, 2009:
Rock Climbing at Carabiner’s Indoor Climbing
328 Parker Street, New Bedford MA
Students will be provided with rental gear and a day passes for indoor
climbing. Carabiner’s created a brand new facility designed from the ground
up to be one of the finest indoor climbing facilities in the world with over
35,000 square feet of climbing.
Time: 9:00 am – 3:00 pm.

Registration begins immediately. This program WILL fill up fast so please
register ASAP. There will only be 50 spots available.

$110 for the whole week of activities

S K I I N G

Ski Lessons- Blue Hills MUST BE BOOKED BY 12/20

Once again this winter Hanover Parks and Recreation will be offering ski
lessons at Blue Hills. Children age Kindergarten- 6th Grade will be
eligible. Busses will leave from B. Everett Hall Field at 3:00 PM on Tuesday
afternoons, making stops at Cedar School as well as the Hanover Middle
School for children in the Afterschool Programs. If you wish to have your
child picked up at an afterschool program please contact the Parks and
Recreation Department immediately so arrangements can be made.

90 minutes lessons will begin at 4PM. Busses will then depart from Blue
Hills at 5:45 and arrive back in Hanover at B. Everett Hall Field at 6:30.

Children can choose to bring or rent equipment unless they participate in an
afterschool program, in which they can only rent. Helmets are not a
requirement however they are STRONGLY suggested.

Classes will take place every Tuesday from January 5th- February 2nd. If the
weather does not cooperate classes will continues on February 10th and 22nd.
(ASK ABOUT ADDING A SEASONS PASS)

Cost: $220 without

$295 with rentals

Open Skiing- Blue Hills MUST BE BOOKED BY 12/20

This year Hanover Parks and Recreation will have an open ski program for
children who are comfortable skiing alone without supervision. Busses will
leave from B. Everett Hall Field at 3:00 PM on Tuesday afternoons, making
stops at Cedar School as well as the Hanover Middle School for children in
the Afterschool Programs. If you wish to have your child picked up at an
afterschool program please contact the Parks and Recreation Department
immediately so arrangements can be made.

With this program your child receives a season’s pass to Blue Hills, so
he/she can also use this pass all winter long! The bus will arrive back at
B. Everett Hall field at 6:30pm

every Tuesday from 1/5-2/2. If the weather does not cooperate classes will
continues on 2/10 and 2/22.

Skating Lessons- Plymouth (Transportation included) Skaters
are taught basic coordination, balance and maneuverability on the ice in a
weekly 40 minute group lessons

Busses will B. Everett Hall Field at 4pm, lessons will start at 4:40 and
will continue until 5:20. Busses will then depart from the Plymouth Rink at
5:30 and arrive back in Hanover at B. Everett Hall Field at 6:00

8 Thursdays starting January 7th

Cost: $160 for 8 Weeks
