Hanover Permanent Scholarship Fund

Dear fellow Hanoverians:

The Hanover Permanent Scholarship Fund is conducting its Annual Fund Drive
through a mailing sent out this week. HPSF will award $40,000 to high
school graduates who are residents of Hanover in 2017, the 40th anniversary
of the founding of the fund.

Donations made by the residents of Hanover in the past have enabled this
level of support for our graduates, however your donations continue to be
needed to help meet the rising cost of education for our young people.

On line giving is available at https://www.justgive.org or donations may be
mailed to HPSF, PO Box 67, Hanover, MA 02339. More information can be found
at

Candidate’s Night

Dear fellow Hanoverians:

Candidates Night, sponsored by the Hanover Woman’s Club, Juniors, will take
place on Tuesday, April 25, at 7:30 p.m. in the large meeting room at the
Hanover Town Hall, 550 Hanover Street.

Candidates Night is an annual event that features candidates running for
office in Hanover. The program will consist of a short presentation by
each candidate running for a town office, and followed by a question and
answer period led by moderator Carol Mattes. The forum is open to the
public and gives those attending a chance to hear the views of the
candidates on important issues affecting the town and to ask questions of
those candidates. Hearing the candidates in this setting will give town
residents the opportunity to cast an educated vote on May 6 during the town
elections. It should prove to be a lively and informative meeting and it
is hoped that many residents will attend.

For more information about Candidate’s Night, please contact Mary Anne
Cirino at 781-820-6459 or thecirinos@netscape.net .

Leo Dwyer, gourd craftsman, to speak

Dear fellow Hanoverians:

For thousands of years, all over the world, gourds have been used as
utilitarian vessels. Historically, many cultures decorated these
containers, giving rise to the embellishment of gourds as an art form.
Here in New England, we are fortunate to have a craftsman who is actively
carrying on this tradition and sharing his artistic gourd work with the
community. Leo Dwyer of Scituate, who learned this craft from the
executive director of Oklahoma’s Museum of the Great Plains, has spent
years honing his craft. He was featured in the October 2014 issue of South
Shore Living and has won numerous awards at the South Shore Arts Festival.
Mr. Dwyer is one of very few people preserving this craft in the United
States today.

The Hanover Garden Club will host Leo Dwyer as the guest speaker at their
upcoming meeting on Thursday, April 20, at 12:30. Mr. Dwyer will explain
his methods and exhibit some of his unique and beautiful bowls, vases,
pitchers, and other art works. The meeting will take place at the Phoenix
Lodge, 133 Broadway, at Hanover’s Four Corners. The public is welcome to
attend this free presentation.
