It’s time to turn it in!

Dear fellow Hanoverians:

The annual town census has been mailed to all Hanover households. All
residents should review the information on the form, make any changes if
necessary, and sign and return the form as soon as possible. Household
members who are temporarily living away from home, such as college students
or members of the military services should not be removed from the census
if they plan to use Hanover as their voting address.

Also included in the census mailing are a Hanover School Information Sheet
and a Dog License Application. If relevant, these forms should also be
completed and may be returned in the enclosed addressed envelope with the
census. All envelopes with forms may also be dropped through the mail slot
in the front door of the Hanover Town Hall. If you did not receive a census
form or are new to the Town of Hanover, please contact the Board of
Registrars at: 781-826-5000 ext. 1028 or the Town Clerk at 781-826-5000
ext. 1079, or download the form found here:
http://www.hanover-ma.gov/sites/hanoverma/files/file/file/blank_census_form_2015.pdf
.

Completion of the annual census is important for a number of reasons. It
assists in accurate municipal planning, it provides public safety officials
with current information, and it allows Hanover to receive the proper
allocation of state and federal funds and grants. Filing a census can
provide proof of residency for a number of legal requirements such as
in-state tuition at state colleges, housing benefits, veterans’ benefits,
and insurance benefits. Also, any registered voters in a household that
fails to complete an annual census will lose their “active” voter
status.

For more information about the annual town census, please go to
http://www.hanover-ma.gov/town-clerk/pages/street-list-and-census , or
e-mail katherine.disabato@hanover-ma.gov or pamela.ferguson@hanover-ma.gov

“Around Town on the Web” New Year’s update

Dear fellow Hanoverians:

As we turn the page on the calendar to 2017, I hope you will take a moment
and mention “Around Town on the Web” (ATOTW) to your family and friends.
ATOTW has now been around for almost 13 years, which is like a lifetime in
technology years. It was founded in 2004 in the aftermath of the defeat of
the high school override in 2002. Two successful school overrides later, I
am proud to note that ATOTW has always been out front spreading important
and reliable information for discerning Hanover residents. Simply put,
“Around Town on the Web” makes connections, and helps to create positive
change in Hanover.

ATOTW will today bring you news of the latest program at the senior center
or through Park and Rec, and will highlight the brightest spots in the
world of art or history in Hanover. It’s more formal than Facebook,
Snapchat or Instagram, but it’s also very accessible and received by well
over 1500 Hanoverians. That’s purportedly larger than the Hanover
Mariner’s subscription base! There’s no room for feedback like there is on
social media, but there is also no room for annoying complainers or
inaccurate information. How do I sign my kids up for lacrosse? How about
kindergarten? What’s the scoop on that new Winter Festival in Four
Corners? When will the Cub Scouts come get my Christmas tree for
recycling? The information is all there on ATOTW. And if it’s not in your
in-box, it’s in the ATOTW archives, found here: https://atotw.com/archive/
. It’s like having an electronic file cabinet for all of your Hanover
news!

It’s your venue, and I am delighted to have been the catalyst and cog in
the wheel of so much positive change in our little town. I could not have
continued without the unfailing support of tech guru and Hanover resident
Mike Van Lare – thanks, as always, for all you do, Mike. I also owe thanks
to Joan Norris and Stephanie Gertz, who helped me weather the storm of
transitioning to a full-time job three and a half years ago. But mostly, I
owe thanks to all of you, my fellow Hanoverians, for sticking with me and
helping to make ATOTW a reliable source of great information about all that
is good locally in Hanover.

ATOTW is only as good as the information you send me. For submission
guidelines and information, please go to www.atotw.com . To sign up to be
added to the e-mail list, please go to: http://atotw.com /maillist/ . So
spread the word. We’re doing some good in a great town. Jump on board!
And Happy New Year!

Hanover Youth Lacrosse sign-ups

Dear fellow Hanoverians:

Winter is here and it is time for lacrosse sign ups! Read on for details
regarding the various offerings.

The first Hanover girls’ lacrosse winter skills session is starting next
week. New players can get a head start on learning the game and returning
players can sharpen their skills at the Hanover Youth Lacrosse winter
skills program which starts on Wednesday January 4th. Sessions are designed
and supervised by Norwell High’s Minnie Dougherty and will run on
Wednesdays from 1/4/17 through 3/15/17 at Synergy Sports ETC at 285 Circuit
Street in Hanover. Girls in grades 3-5 will train from 5:00 – 6:00 p.m.,
and girls in grades 6-8 will train from 6:00 – 7:00 p.m. At $85 it’s a
great deal! Sign up at www.Hanoverlax.org today.

Sign-ups are also open for the 2017 spring season that runs from
early-April to mid-June at www.Hanoverlax.org . Cost for the spring season
is $135. League registrations are due in mid January, so they need early
sign ups in order to submit the proper amount of teams to maximize the
experience for our girls. Lacrosse is a great, growing sport and now is a
great time to get your daughters involved or to build upon the work they’ve
done in previous seasons. Typically teams have 1 or 2 weekday practices
and Sunday game times.

If you’ve got boys in grades 1-8, signups are also open for their winter
skills and spring seasons at www.Hanoverlax.org too, so the whole family
can be involved. Details for those programs are available at the site.

If you have any questions, feel free to contact Doug MacLellan at
dougmac20@gmail.com and please feel free to pass this message on to anyone
you know who may be interested!
