Raising a Reader at the John Curtis Library

Dear fellow Hanoverians:

Dear fellow Hanoverians:
Local storyteller Ryan Racette, of Big Ryan’s Tall Tales, will facilitate
a six-week reading program at the John Curtis Library for families with
children three to five years old. The program will run on Wednesdays at
4:00 p.m., April 5 through May 17.

“Raising a Reader” is an early literacy program that helps families of
young children develop, practice, and maintain habits of reading together
at home. Its core program model, which offers support for strengthening
the culture of reading at home, is driven by more than 25 years of research
that show the most significant factor impacting a child’s academic
success is being regularly read to by a parent or other primary adult
caregiver before starting kindergarten.
For more information on the Raising a Reader program, visit
https://www.raisingareader.org/.

To register for the library’s program, please fill in a form at the
children’s room desk, call 781-826-2972, extension 4, or email the
children’s librarian at lcampbell@ocln.org.

Last day to register to vote

Dear fellow Hanoverians:

Hanover Town Clerk Catherine Harder-Bernier announced that Tuesday, April
11th is the last day to register to vote at the Annual Town Meeting and in
the Annual Town Election. Town Hall will be open from 8:00 a.m. – 8:00
p.m. on Tuesday the 11th. Interestingly, Friday, April 14th is the last
day to register to vote in the Special Town Meeting that is also scheduled
for Monday, May 1st. Town Hall will be open until 8:00 p.m. on that Friday
night, too.

Any Hanover citizen who will be eighteen on or before the first day of Town
Meeting (May 1st) or by the Town Election (May 6th) is encouraged to
register to vote. Once registered, individuals will be eligible to vote in
all elections thereafter. Further, residents may “pre-register” to
vote if they are age 16 or 17, but they will not be eligible to vote until
they turn 18.

Citizens of Hanover may conveniently register to vote or change their party
status on-line, by mail or in person. The link for on-line registration is
here: https://www.sec.state.ma.us/OVR . If residents choose to register
by mail they should download the “Massachusetts Mail-In Voter
Registration Form” found here:
https://www.sec.state.ma.us/ele/elepdf/Voter-reg-mail-in.pdf and mail the
completed form to the Hanover Town Clerk’s Office.

If voters wish to register to vote in person, they may do so at two
convenient locations: Hanover Town Hall or the Registry of Motor Vehicles.

“New residents and high school students are strongly encouraged to
register to vote. It is the cornerstone of our democracy!” said Town
Clerk Catherine Harder-Bernier. “Several major decisions have been made
on Town Meeting floor by a one-vote margin and local elections have turned
on less than 10 votes just in the past few years. Register now to
vote…so you can vote in May!”

Questions may be directed to Hanover Town Clerk Catherine Harder-Bernier at
(781) 826-5000 x1079 or by e-mail at Catherine.harderbernier@hanover-ma.gov
, or Senior Registrar Nancy Goldthwait at (781) 826-5000 x1082 or
nancy.goldthwait@hanover-ma.gov .

Titletown!

Dear fellow Hanoverians:

Please join me in congratulating the Hanover High School Boys’ Basketball
team on their convincing 58 – 43 win over Palmer in the Division 3 State
Championship game yesterday!

Here’s a link to some great pictures and a Hanover Mariner article that
sums it all up nicely:
http://hanover.wickedlocal.com/sports/20170318/hanover-boys-basketball-wins-state-championship
.

With three state championships in the past 12 months (Boy’s Hockey last
winter and Football this past fall), Hanover has rightly earned and
borrowed Boston’s “Titletown” nickname this year.

You have given all of us something to be very proud of, boys. I loved
watching the Police and Fire Department escort as you came back into town
yesterday afternoon! Hearty congratulations to you and your families.
Hanover Pride is in the air!
