New voter registration law and deadline to register

Dear fellow Hanoverians:

Hanover Town Clerk Catherine Harder-Bernier announced that Friday, August
19th is the last day to register to vote in the State Primary Election
scheduled to be held on September 8th. The Registrar’s Office will be
open from 8:00 a.m. – 8:00 p.m. on Friday the 19th of August.

Thanks to new legislation that went into effect August 1st, 2016, any
Hanover citizen who is sixteen years of age or older is eligible to
register to vote. Citizens who will be eighteen on or before Election Day,
September 8th, 2016 will then be eligible to actually vote. Once registered
and 18 years of age, individuals will be eligible to vote in all elections
thereafter, including the State (Presidential) Election in November.

Citizens of Hanover may conveniently register to vote or change their party
status on-line, by mail or in person. The link for on-line registration is
here: https://www.sec.state.ma.us/OVR . If residents choose to register
by mail they should download the “Massachusetts Mail-In Voter
Registration Form” found here:
http://www.sec.state.ma.us/ele/eleifv/howreg.htm and mail the completed
form to the Hanover Town Clerk’s Office.

If voters wish to register to vote in person, they may do so at two
convenient locations: Hanover Town Hall or the Registry of Motor Vehicles.

“The State Primary Election is the precursor to the big State Election in
November, but it features a number of important races, including one for
State Representative on the Democratic side and one for Representative in
Congress on the Republican side,” said Harder-Bernier. “With the new
legislation that allows teenagers to register to vote beginning at age
sixteen, even though they still cannot vote until they are eighteen, I hope
their interest is piqued and they start to become engaged in the election
process. It does not get much better than a Presidential Election year to
become excited about this process!” she continued.

Questions may be directed to Hanover Town Clerk Catherine Harder-Bernier at
(781) 826-5000 x1079 or by e-mail at Catherine.harderbernier@hanover-ma.gov
, or Senior Registrar Nancy Goldthwait at (781) 826-5000 x1082 or
nancy.goldthwait@hanover-ma.gov .

A Circus at the Library?!

Dear fellow Hanoverians:

Circus Minimus will appear at the John Curtis Library on Wednesday, August
3 at 12:00 noon. Kevin O’Keefe presents his “one-man circus
in-a-suitcase”, which he has performed over 500 times around the globe,
for family theater audiences and school assemblies alike. From Kevin
O’Keefe’s suitcase an entire circus emerges: tent, band, lights, the
boisterous ringmaster Steve Fitzpatrick, the officious Mervin Merkle, the
incredible Bumbilini Family, the Magician to the Stars Clyde Zerbini, and
Keefer–an innocent trying to run away and join the circus. However, the
most important performers emerge from the audience. Each performance
becomes a dialogue between the characters and the audience–a
light-hearted collaboration.

The program, for all ages, is funded by the Friends of the Library. Please
register from the Calendar section of the library’s website,
www.hanovermass.com/library . For more information, call 781-826-2972,
extension 4 or e-mail lcampbell@ocln.org .

Mattresses for music!

Dear fellow Hanoverians:

The Friends of Hanover Music (FHM) are sponsoring their 3rd annual Mattress
Sale on Saturday, July 30, 2016, from 10:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. at Hanover
High School, 287 Cedar Street..

There will be a full mattress showroom with 20+ sets on display in the gym
and a team of experts on hand taking orders and answering questions. All
products are brand new, name brand (Simmons, Beautyrest, Restonic,
Therapedic) with full manufacturer warranties made locally right here in
New England. Mattress sets can be delivered or picked up at the company’s
warehouse about 2 weeks after the sale and free layaway is also available.
All the FHM folks ask is that you come in and take a look if you have been
thinking about a new mattress or have a mattress in your home that could be
replaced. This is a no pressure sale, just savings to our community from
30-50% below retail and our Hanover Public School’s music programs earn
money from every single sale. Last year the FHM were able to raise
$4,100.00 for music in our schools from this one day sale.

The Friends of Hanover Music would appreciate your support of their
fundraiser and hope you spread the word to extended family, co-workers,
neighbors and friends.

Please visit their website for more information, including the attached
flyer which gives you a $50 discount. If you indicate a music student’s
name at the bottom of the flyer, that student’s school will receive an
extra $25 from the sale. Their website is
http://friendsofhanovermusic.weebly.com and their email is
hpmc101@gmail.com.

Send a card to a military service member

Dear fellow Hanoverians:

Beyond everything they do to keep us safe, military service members make
the additional sacrifice of spending long periods of time away from family
and friends. That means service members can feel disconnected from the
people and the comforts of home. Please consider sending them a card to
say thanks!

Make your cards! They don’t have to be gorgeous, just thoughtful. Military
service members are going to be SO appreciative of your work. Make all
cards non-specific. We want to make sure your card can be given to anyone
in the military. For example, start your card with, “Dear Military Service
Member,”. Write a short, positive message explaining why you’re grateful
for a military service member’s hard work and sacrifices. Decorate the
outside of your card with a patriotic theme. Think: flags, American
landmarks, eagles, fireworks, etc. Please do not use glitter, and make sure
your cards are no bigger than 5″x7″.

This campaign will begin July 5th, and end August 20th. You can drop off
your cards at Town Hall in the Park and Rec Office on the second floor. You
can also drop them off at Curry Hardware in Hanover, at 1271 Washington
Street. For more information, please contact Gabby Manupelli at
gmanupelli17@hanoverstudents.org. Gabby is a lifelong resident of Hanover,
and is going to be a senior this year at Hanover High School.
