Meals on Wheels volunteers needed

Dear fellow Hanoverians:

More caring Meals on Wheels volunteer drivers are needed!

Volunteer as little as 1 hour per month to make a world of difference.
Drivers are needed to deliver Meals on Wheels to homebound seniors on
Monday through Friday (not including holidays).

The Meals on Wheels program would not be possible without the dedication of
caring volunteers contributing to their community. IT’S MORE THAN JUST A
MEAL! Each Meals on Wheels delivery is made by a driver who also checks on
the well-being of each senior – bringing peace of mind to clients and
their families. For many, the Meals on Wheels driver is the only person
they see during their day.

If you are interested in volunteering to become a driver please call: 781
924-1913 and speak to Teresa Slight or-mail: coa@hanover-ma.gov . Delivery
time is 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. It only takes 1 hour a week of your time.
Drivers must be 18 years old or older and have a valid MA Driver’s
license.

Patriots wanted – apply today

Dear fellow Hanoverians:

Do you think that democracy is one of the greatest gifts of all? Would you
like to have a hand in making sure that Hanover residents can exercise that
right, especially this year, in a Presidential Election year? Then Uncle
Sam, and Town Clerk Cathy Harder-Bernier, need you!

If you are free for even part of the day on the Presidential Primary (March
1st) and/or the Town Election on May 7th, 2016, then please consider
applying to become a paid poll worker for the Town of Hanover. Democrats,
Republicans, unenrolled voters (commonly known as “independents”), UIP or
Green Rainbow – we need you. If it works out for both of us, we’ll re-hire
you for the State Primary in September and the State Election, that
includes the Presidential Election, in November 2016. One of these
elections will surely include a school building override – how awesome
would it be to be a part of that day?!

Please see the attached job descriptions. Your town needs you to help
provide democracy to all citizens. Apply today and get the chance to show
your true patriotic colors.

Hanover Medical Reserve Corps volunteers needed

Dear fellow Hanoverians:

The Hanover Medical Reserve Corps (MRC) is enthusiastically looking for new
volunteers – both medical and non-medical. Volunteering with the MRC is a
great way to meet new neighbors and become involved in the Hanover
community.

The purpose of the MRC is to provide emergency disaster preparedness as
well as assist with public health programs. There is no set training;
members choose to attend as many or as few of the workshops that are
offered. Nor is there any set commitment. Some members ask to be
contacted in an emergency only; others volunteer at scheduled events.
Workshops in local communities are offered in the early evening and cover
an ever-changing variety of topics including training in emergency
preparedness, presentations on various recent and historical disasters;
understanding our public health system; and opportunities to become
certified in First Aid and CPR. Many workshops carry nursing, social work
and EMT continuing education credits.

They hope you might join them on Wednesday, January 20th to learn about the
Hanover Medical Reserve Corps (MRC) and to meet some current volunteers.
There will be a short get together with refreshments at 6:30 p.m. in
Hanover Town Hall, Selectmen’s Meeting room, 1st floor.

To register interest in attending the January 20th get together, please
leave your name and number anytime for Nancy Funder, 781-826-6473 or email
nancy.funder@hanover-ma.gov .

Food Pantry thank you

Dear fellow Hanoverians:
Another grateful update from the Food Pantry!
“The Hanover Emergency Food Pantry would like to thank every individual,
group, organization, club, school, scout, church and business for
supporting the pantry this past year. We would be lost without them.
In 2015, we never experienced “bare shelves” as we have in the past. Summer
is slow but the postal workers food drive in May helped carry us into our
leanest season. We had a large number of volunteers, many of them students
and scouts, to help with this project. The schools have done an amazing job
with their food drives. All the churches in town have kept us going
throughout the year with weekly contributions. We have drop boxes at the
library, Shaw’s and the Norwell Stop and Shop and we thank them for their
continued support. Private citizens have made very generous contributions
regularly. Many people buy gift cards to Shaw’s and Stop and Shop as we
give our clients a card monthly. (The cards are a great help.) This past
year we had small children give to the pantry in lieu of birthday gifts for
themselves. We had other children run private neighborhood food drives.
Some ran lemonade stands where a food item was the cost of the cool summer
drink. How creative! Parents have supported us by requesting pantry
contributions in lieu baptism gift for newborns. Girl Scouts have run theme
collections and donated their cookies. Businesses have run food drives in
their stores. Some businesses have donated a matching corporate
contribution (the gift that keeps giving). All wonderful gifts.
Looking back over the past year and seeing all the hard work and dedication
of our volunteers, it is a staggering amount of hours! What a fantastic and
dedicated group of people we have working at the pantry. I, for one, am so
thankful for each and every one of them. I could not express how deeply I
appreciate each of them as a group and individually. I am honored to be
working with all our volunteers.
The pantry and volunteers wish the Town of Hanover the best holiday season
and the happiest of New Years ever. Thank you again for the generosity that
keeps us going.”
Sincerely,
Sally Lovett Boutin

Christmas tree pick-up and recycling

Dear fellow Hanoverians:

Hanover Cub Scouts Pack 39 would like to remind all Hanover residents about
their annual Christmas Tree Pick-Up and Recycling Service. The scouts will
take away your discarded Christmas tree on Saturday, January 9, 2016. The
requested donation is $10 per tree.

Residents may contact the scouts for tree pickup via email at
christmastreepack39@yahoo.com. If you prefer, you may call 781-422-1338.
Leave your name, address and phone number.

Trees should be curbside by 8:00 a.m. January 9th. Please place a check
(payable to Pack 39) in a plastic bag and attach it to the tree.

This event is Pack 39’s annual fundraiser that integrates community
service with environmental awareness. There are several area businesses
that donate their trucks and drivers to assist the Scouts in collecting the
trees. The Hanover DPW allows the use of their space and to bring the
trees to them for recycling.

Thank you for supporting Hanover Cub Scouts of Pack 39.
