K and Pre-K registration extended, Hanover rallies

Dear fellow Hanoverians:
“If it’s a Tuesday, it must be a snow day!”

Due to the unusual number of snow days of late, the Hanover School
Department has decided to extend kindergarten registration for another day.
K registration may be made at the child’s neighborhood school office when
school resumes on Wednesday and will run through Thursday 2/12/15 at 3:00
p.m. See previous e-mails for details.

Additionally, pre-school registration at Cedar School will be moved from
Thursday to Friday, February 13th, from 8:00 a.m. – 3:00 p.m.

Everybody else…school is back in session in the morning on Wednesday.
The snow banks are high and long, and the roads are narrow and sometimes
snow-covered. Drive slowly and carefully. Our DPW staff is working their
tails off and our roads are better than some surrounding towns. Have you
shoveled your hydrant out yet? If not, please do. How are your neighbors
doing? Please check on them if you have not heard from them, especially if
they are elderly. We’re in this together. Let’s rally…again! :)

Senator Kennedy takes the helm again

Dear fellow Hanoverians:

State Senator Thomas P. Kennedy (D-Brockton), was recently sworn in for his
fourth term in the MA State Senate representing the 2nd Plymouth and
Bristol District. The district encompasses the city of Brockton and
surrounding communities, including East Bridgewater (precincts 1, 2, and
3), Easton (precincts 1 and 2), Halifax, Hanover, Hanson, Plympton, and
Whitman.

On January 21st, Senate President Stanley Rosenberg named Kennedy to the
leadership posts of Chairman of the Joint Committee on Consumer Protection
and Professional Licensure, Chairman of the Joint Committee on Election
Laws, Vice Chairman of the Committee on Veterans and Federal Affairs, and
added to his Senate duties a position on the powerful Committee on Ways and
Means. He was also appointed to serve on the Joint Committee on Public
Service.

Senator Kennedy knows both Chairmanships well. He served as Chairman of the
Committee on Consumer Protection and Professional Licensure under Senate
President Therese Murray during the last legislative session, and was
previously Chairman of Election Laws during his first term in the Senate.

“I am deeply honored to have the opportunity to be a member of the
Massachusetts State Senate,” said Senator Kennedy. “Additionally, I am
very pleased to chair these two committees and to be appointed to the
all-important Ways and Means Committee. I look forward to continue working
on those issues of vital importance to my district and to the entire
Commonwealth.”

Senator Kennedy’s office is located in the East Wing of the State House
in Room 109-E. The telephone number is 617-722-1200 and the fax number is
617-722-1116. For more information, contact Michael King at

As you probably know by now, school is closed tomorrow, Monday, as I write
this. Monday makes the fifth snow day already and it’s barely February.

closing information to see if they will be open on Tuesday. If school is
closed, make sure you get there on Wednesday by 2.

archives to read my earlier post. A link to the archives appears at the
bottom of this, and every ATOTW e-mail.

For more information from Cedar School, please contact Kristen Gokey at
kgokey@hanoverschools.org or call 781-878-7228 ext. 12.

State of the Town breakfast

Dear fellow Hanoverians:

Working together to strengthen the partnership between the Town of Hanover
and its vital business community, the Town and the Hanover Chamber of
Commerce have jointly announced the scheduling of the 2015 “State of the
Town” breakfast.

The breakfast will be held at the Hanover Town Hall on Thursday, February
12th, 2015, at 7:30 A.M. It will include an update on town affairs by
Chairman of the Board of Selectmen Harold Dunn and Town Manager Troy
Clarkson. Representatives from the Hanover School Department will attend
with an update on school activities. State and regional elected officials
will continue their tradition of updating the public on legislative issues.
Chamber representatives will also provide an update on the business
environment in town.

“As the new Chamber President, I’m thrilled to be a part of this
cooperative effort to engage our community,” said Chamber President
Patrick Kelleher. “Our cooperative working relationship with town
government is fostered by our annual state of the town meeting at which
chamber members as well as the Hanover community will have an opportunity
to engage in face-to-face discussions with town officials, ensuring
progress for Hanover,” he continued.

Cost of the breakfast is $10.00. Those interested in attending should RSVP
to Ann Lee, 781-826-5000 x 1033 or ann.lee@hanover-ma.gov .

Snow falls again – help!

Dear fellow Hanoverians:

As the snow falls again here in Hanover, this e-mail could not be timelier.

The Hanover Senior Center is looking for some strong people to lend a hand
and help shovel walkways for seniors in Hanover. They have clients who
cannot afford to pay and others who can pay a small fee. They understand
that your time is valuable, but there is no greater gift than giving back
to the community with some community service.

They appreciate your help!

Please call Katie at 781-924-1913 or e-mail her at
katherine.obrien@hanover-ma.gov .
