Community Preservation Committee update

Dear fellow Hanoverians:
The Hanover Community Preservation Committee (CPC) would like to invite
residents to the regular meeting of the CPC on Wednesday, October 8th at
7:00 p.m. at Town Hall. They want to use this time just before proposals
are due to answer questions about what has been and what can be
accomplished using Community Preservation Act (CPA) money.

Anyone interested in serving on the Committee can find out what is
involved. The Affordable Housing Trust will also be discussed.

Their meetings are usually held on the second Wednesday of the month and
are always open. Further information on the Community Preservation Act can
be found on the town website.
For further information contact Diane Campbell, Chair of CPC at
disycampbell@yahoo.com .

Anchor Race and Girl Scouts

Dear fellow Hanoverians:
I had the good fortune to attend the Massachusetts Town Clerk’s
Association Fall Conference in Springfield this past week and am grateful
for the opportunity to attend. I learned so much – about business
certificates, document preservation, ethics, local mandates including those
related to the new election laws, and so much more.

The only downside is that I therefore sometimes miss the opportunity to be
as timely as I might like with my “Around Town on the Web” postings.
So, I beg for your understanding as I send along two different notices in
this e-blast so that you will get both before tomorrow.

The Hanover Newcomers Club is proud to announce the 6th running of the
Hanover Anchor Race, Sunday, October 5, 2014.
9:00 a.m. Free Fun Run (ages 1-10)
10:00 a.m. 5K Road Race (3.1 miles)
Start and finish at Cedar Elementary School, 265 Cedar Street.
A 3.1 Mile Race thru Hanover to support HANOVER PUBLIC SCHOOLS (thru HFEE)
Race Day Registration 8:30 a.m. – 9:30 a.m. at Cedar School: $20 Student,
$30 Adult, $60 Family
Family Friendly Post-Race-Party at Squires – 1:00 p.m. Free appetizers,
pizza and other yummy food, raffles, prizes, and silent auction.
All proceeds benefit the Hanover Foundation for Educational Enrichment,
which supports all public schools in Hanover. All events are rain or shine.
Please email: hanoverfoundation@gmail.com for more information.

Also!
The Hanover Girl Scout Service Unit will be holding a Fall Fun Day on
Sunday, October 5th at Forge Pond Park. The event will run from 3:00 –
4:30. This is a casual event of field games and socializing with Girl Scout
friends. The event is open to all registered Hanover Girl Scouts and anyone
new who is interested in joining this year. A registration table will be
set up with information and to register your daughter with a troop.
Questions may be directed to hanovermagirlscouts@yahoo.com.

Flu clinics

Dear fellow Hanoverians:

SEASONAL INFLUENZA CLINICS

The Hanover Board of Health, in conjunction with the Hanover Visiting Nurse
Association, has scheduled their annual public flu clinics to be held at
the Hanover Senior Center, 665 Center Street, Hanover:

Tuesday, October 7, 2014 1:00 pm – 3:00 pm
Wednesday, October 8, 2014 4:30 pm – 7:00 pm

Please note: Because of budget cuts across all departments, the
Massachusetts Department of Public Health is no longer able to provide free
vaccine to cities and towns except to those residents who are either
un-insured or under-insured (meaning their health plan will not cover the
cost of a flu shot).

The Board of Health has purchased an adequate supply of flu vaccine to make
up for the lesser amount received from the State. *** All persons will be
asked to present an insurance card (most insurance plans welcome) and the
insurance plan will cover the cost of the flu shot ***.

No one will be turned away on the basis of insurance eligibility.

Please remember to wear short sleeves.

For more information, contact the Board of Health at health@hanover-ma.gov
.

Hanover Community Television starts fresh

Dear fellow Hanoverians:
Hanover’s Got Talent! Will you share yours?

Our community has invested in a state of the art studio, equipment,
professional staff and funding to support community television in Hanover.
Now is the time to realize the full potential of these investments to
improve our community, education and government channels. We are forming a
completely new volunteer committee of seven citizens, supported by
professional staff, who want to set the creative direction of Hanover
Community Television, work to promote it and help find the most exciting
content to air. With your help, Hanover Community Television can flourish!

If you think you might be interested or want to know more, please send a
note to Town Moderator Doug Thomson at moderator@hanover-ma.gov.

Register to vote by October 15th

Dear fellow Hanoverians:

Hanover Town Clerk Cathy Harder-Bernier announced that Wednesday, October
15th is the last day to register to vote in the upcoming State Election.
Town Hall will be open from 8:00 a.m. – 8:00 p.m. on the 15th.

Any Hanover citizen who will be eighteen on or before the Election Day is
encouraged to register to vote. Once registered, individuals will be
eligible to vote in the State Election scheduled to be held on Tuesday,
November 4, 2014, and in elections thereafter.

Citizens of Hanover may conveniently register to vote by mail or in person.
If residents choose to register by mail they should download the
“Massachusetts Mail-In Voter Registration Form” from
www.sec.state.ma.us and mail the completed form to the Hanover Town
Clerk’s Office.

If voters wish to register to vote in person, they may do so at two
convenient locations: Hanover Town Hall or the Registry of Motor Vehicles.

“The November gubernatorial race is an important one, and there are good
solid contests all the way down the ballot. In addition, there are four
initiative petition questions for voters to weigh in on. New residents and
high school students who have just turned 18 are particularly encouraged to
be a part of the voting process. It’s a sacred gift from our forefathers
in this democratic society,” said Harder-Bernier.

Questions may be directed to Hanover Town Clerk Cathy Harder-Bernier at
(781) 826-5000 x1079 or by e-mail at
Catherine.harderbernier@hanover-ma.gov.

Heal Heather Moore

Dear fellow Hanoverians:
Heather Moore lived in Hanover her entire 11 years until she moved to
Orlando last year with her mom (Lori Moore) her dad (Deke Moore) and her
sisters Grace and Lily. She’s a Hanover kid, and anyone who knows Hanover,
knows we support our kids.

Heather was diagnosed September 9th with leukemia. Her aunt, Michelle
Boyne-Granskie, would like to share Heather’s story with the Hanover
community so folks can send well wishes to Heather thru the website they
just created: www.caringbridge.org/visit/healheathermoore and also a
fundraising page that was created: http://www.gofundme.com/healheathermoore
.

“Heal Heather Moore” has been created in an effort to help defray the
many costs associated with the treatment and recovery of Heather Moore’s
Acute Lymphocytic Leukemia (ALL). The funds will be overseen by a
committee of three individuals insuring your donation has the largest
impact possible. The only fees that will be charged are those associated
with the “gofundme” website and their partner WePay (currently
approximately $91.80 of every $100.00 donated will be available for
Heather’s fight). The committee members overseeing the
fundraising/disbursements are performing their duties as volunteers and
will not receive any monetary benefit from this site. After Heather has
won her fight with “ALL”, any funds remaining will be donated to one or
multiple cancer charities/institutions of Heather’s choice.

Unfortunately, as of this writing, Heather is back in the hospital, and the
family can use all the support they can get. For more information, please
contact Michelle Boyne-Granskie at mboyne-granskie@comcast.net .
