Christmas Tree pick-up

Dear fellow Hanoverians:
Hanover Cub Scouts Pack 39 would like to remind all Hanover residents
about their annual Christmas Tree Pick-Up and Recycling Service. The
scouts will take away your discarded Christmas tree on Saturday,
January 4th, 2014. The requested donation is $10 per tree.
Residents may contact the scouts for tree pickup via email at
xmastree_pickup@yahoo.com. If you prefer, you may call 781-217-0187.
Tell them your name, address and phone number. Trees should be
curbside by 8:00 a.m. on January 4th. Please place a check (payable to
Pack 39) in a plastic bag and attach it to the tree.
This event is their annual fundraiser for the Scouts and integrates
community service with environmental awareness. There are several area
businesses that donate their trucks and drivers to assist them in
collecting the trees. The Hanover DPW allows the scouts the use of
their space and to bring the trees to them for recycling.
Thank you for supporting Hanover Cub Scouts of Pack 39.

College students needed!

Dear fellow Hanoverians:
Hanover High School administration, teachers and parents have
collaborated to create a new idea for a college fair for Hanover High
Schools’ seniors. It’s called; *“My College Fair”* and will
take place on Friday, January 3rd at 9:00 a.m. and 12:00 noon at HHS.

This e-mail is sent in hopes that your son or daughter — and recent
Hanover High School graduate – would be interested in participating by
joining the fair at HHS on January 3rd. Your college student will
share their personal experiences at their college with high school
students looking at options after graduation. HHS students will
benefit from a more personal story from kids they may know and who are
closer to their own age, rather than just talking with colleges’
admissions officers. The group is also hoping to compile a list of
students’ contact information to serve as a resource for our HHS
students in case they have follow up questions about a particular
university, or perhaps need a connection if the student is planning a
tour or visit. To ensure the event is successful, the group hopes to
enlist 25-30 graduates, and they’re hopeful your son/daughter would
be interested. Lunch and snacks will be provided for all graduates
participating that day.

If you are the parent of a recent graduate, kindly ask your son or
daughter if they’d be interested in attending this event scheduled
for Friday January 3rd, for one or both sessions, 9:00 a.m. and 12
noon/./ It would be ideal if they could proudly wear their school
colors: t-shirt/sweatshirt. No need to rehearse a speech; students
will just like their honest opinion and personal experience and
perhaps a little background on their major and what led them to their
particular school. The organizers will supply the grads with sample
questions so they can have an idea of what students might be asking.

If your son/daughter is interested, please e-mail Kathi at
kathi@ktdesigngraphics.com
or Tricia at christricia@comcast.net
as soon as possible so they can create a list of institutions that
will be represented and provide your kids with more details about the
event. They are hoping to have as many institutions represented as
possible.

Celtics tickets to benefit Cardinal Cushing students

Dear fellow Hanoverians:
Want to help bring Christmas cheer to 35 students from Cardinal
Cushing Centers? Looking for an awesome Christmas gift, too?
Eleven years ago a group of Hanover residents discovered that there
were students who stayed at the school through the holidays. They
decided to give these children a Christmas party to remember –
complete with music, dancing, games, food and gifts handed out by
Santa himself.
The tradition continues, and fundraising for the event now happens
year-round. Last year for the first time, I ran an on-line auction to
help support their efforts. I am delighted to announce that an auction
will be run again this weekend! This year, there are a couple of
luxury box Celtics tickets up for auction right here on “Around Town
on the Web” – with 100% the proceeds going toward the Cardinal
Cushing Centers party that will be held next week.
Two luxury box tickets are available for the following game:
Celtics vs. Orlando Magic

February 2, 2013, 1:00 p.m.

Luxury box seats!
The 2 seats have total face value of $500. For those who are
relatively new to “Around Town on the Web”, here’s how it works.
Bidding will begin at half-price -$250 – at 5:00 p.m. on Saturday,
December 21st and will be accomplished simply by sending an e-mail to
cathyhb@atotw.com
. Once you enter a bid, you will be added to the distribution list
that will keep you updated on the latest bid (as best as humanly
possible!). Bids will be accepted until exactly 5:00 p.m. on Sunday,
December 22nd. If two bids for the same amount are received, the
earlier bid will take precedence. So, it is to your advantage to bid
your best price early. Bids received by me after 5:00 p.m. (computer
clock time) on Sunday will not be considered. So don’t wait until it
is too late!
Gift someone special with some terrific Celtics tickets and gift the
students at the Cardinal Cushing Centers with some Christmas spirit
all at the same time. If you are the winning bidder, your tickets will
be delivered to you before Christmas. Mark your calendar and send your
bids to me at cathyhb@atotw.com
beginning Saturday (tomorrow as I write this) at 5:00 p.m. Bid early,
bid often!
If this opportunity touches your heart but you are not a Celtics fan,
you are also invited to send a donation made payable to the Cardinal
Cushing Centers (c/o Luke Dillon, 40 Maplewood Drive, Hanover). Please
also contact Luke with any fundraiser questions at 617-699-2244 (cell)
or ldillon@liam.org
.

Community Calendar now available

Dear fellow Hanoverians:

Hanover Town Clerk Cathy Harder-Bernier announced today that her
office is now managing a new “Community Calendar” feature within
the Town’s website. The comprehensive calendar of town board and
committee meetings and non-profit groups and organizational events is
now featured on the Town of Hanover’s website at
http://www.hanover-ma.gov/town-calendar
.

“This inclusive look at the life and business of the town will
enable groups to coordinate planning of events and help to avoid major
scheduling conflicts,” said Harder-Bernier. “It will also give
individual townspeople a chance to obtain information about meetings
and events that they might not otherwise know about. This addition to
the town’s website continues to fulfill my promise to the people of
Hanover to bring the Town Clerk’s Office into the 21st century and
make it accessible 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. Thanks go to the
Board of Selectmen and Town Manager Troy Clarkson for providing the
new website platform to enable us to do so.”

Posting of events is easily requested by filling out a simple form
on-line that can be found on the Town’s website at
http://www.hanover-ma.gov/home/webforms/post-a-community-event
. The link is also found on the front page of the town’s website.

In order to be approved for Community Calendar inclusion by the Town
Clerk’s Office, the event needs to be sponsored by a Hanover-based
non-profit organization, or be held in the Town of Hanover and run by
a non-profit. “These are the same guidelines that are used on the
‘Around Town on the Web’ e-mail newsletter,” added
Harder-Bernier. “’Around Town on the Web’ has been a volunteer
operation and very successful since 2004; the Community Calendar will
surely be an excellent town-run complement to that service.” Town
board and committee meetings are already posted on the Community
Calendar by the individual town departments.

For more information about the Community Calendar, please contact Town
Clerk Cathy Harder-Bernier or Assistant Town Clerk JoAnne O’Connor
at (781) 826-5000 x1079 or by e-mail at
catherine.harderbernier@hanover-ma.gov

or joanne.oconnor@hanover-ma.gov
