Dear fellow Hanoverians:

Hanover’s Special Town Meeting opened and closed without fanfare this
evening, but the Annual Town Meeting was another story. With 1,028
residents checked in at 9:00 p.m. at Hanover’s Annual Town Meeting, and
another 333 non-voting residents watching on-line, Town Meeting began the
debate on Article 9, the override budget. After spirited debate and two
attempts to amend the budget, the meeting voted by a clear majority to pass
the override budget as presented by the Advisory Committee. This was in
addition to passing the base budget as recommended by the Advisory
Committee under Article 8.

I am delighted to acknowledge the fact that this was the largest Hanover
Town Meeting attendance since the +/- 1,000 people voted to approve the new
high school in 2008. Congratulations, Hanover voters! A motion to adjourn
the 2024 meeting until Tuesday night, May 7th at 7:00 p.m. was made and
approved when we closed up shop just after 11:00 p.m. on Monday.

Just a reminder that a motion to reconsider any vote on any of the previous
articles may be made on Tuesday night at any time, or any other night if
Town Meeting extends beyond Tuesday. In an effort to avoid the lines at
check-in on Tuesday, residents are reminded that check-in begins at 6:00
p.m. on Tuesday, even though Town Meeting does not begin until 7. Come
early and re-hash the fun we had this evening before settling in for
another night of Annual Town Meeting debate!

This Sunday is the Phoenix Lodge Public Breakfast for Mother’s Day.

Join them on Sunday, May 12th from 8:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. for what some
folks say is the “best breakfast anywhere”.

Featuring: French toast, pancakes, eggs, homemade corned beef hash, home
fries, breakfast sausage, bacon, fresh fruit and juices, muffins, toast and
coffee.

Kids under 12 – $5.00
Kids under 5 – FREE

You just can’t beat this price!!!

All of the proceeds from the breakfasts help to support their Food Pantry
program. Phoenix Lodge regularly donates to the Hanover, Pembroke
Firehouse and Norwell food pantries. They also provide two scholarships
each year to South Shore Regional Vocational Technical High School.

May is their annual Mother’s Day breakfast. All Moms eat for free!

With all the stress and tension around town meeting…come relax after and
enjoy a drink and lots of laughs. Hanover Pride is hosting a trivia night
fundraiser at The Fermentary in Hanover on Friday, May 10th from 7:00 –
9:00 p.m. They are fundraising to be able to provide a scholarship to a
graduating high school senior for 2025. Buy a ticket ahead of time, gather
a team of up to six, or come that night and they will help you get on a
team. It is $25 to play trivia and includes 1 alcoholic drink. Under 21 can
still come and play and get a non-alcoholic drink. There will be raffles,
beer and wine offered by The Fermentary. Buy one of The Fermentary’s
delicious hot sauces to have on your food while you are there! Prizes will
be awarded to 1st and 2nd place teams.

What else does Hanover Pride have planned? They are hosting an art
exhibition of artists of all ages around the South Shore. They will be
accepting art of any medium, photography, poetry or anything else that can
be hung on the wall. This is open to any LGBTQIA+ individual or ally. Art
can be your own expression or around this theme “What does Don’t Hide the
Pride mean to you?” There will be an open reception mid-June; details to

Tavern Night at Stetson House
Saturday, May 4th, 2024, 5:30 p.m. to 8:00 p.m.

On Saturday, May 4th the Hanover Historical Society will host its annual
tavern at the Historic Drummer Samuel Stetson House in Hanover Center!
Samuel Stetson was a noted man in 1700s Hanover when his home was a
“tavern stand and a famous place of resort.”

Enjoy an evening of good food, traditional tavern games, entertainment from
The Road Back Home, and beer from Mayflower Brewery to celebrate the
history of Hanover’s 18th Century hospitality. Explore the Stetson House
and grounds, see the Cobbler’s Shop and Barn, and join your neighbors
from the community for our Annual Tavern Night at Stetson House.
Proceeds from this event will benefit the educational programs of the
Hanover Historical Society.

Share an afternoon of honor and praise in the presence of the Lord and
experience the Blessings of First Friday of the Sacred Heart Devotions.
Come and stay for all devotions or for as long as you can stay.

St. Mary of the Portiuncula and Mary Queen of Peace Secular Franciscan
Fraternities extend an invitation to pray together the Sacred Heart
Devotions, which include Adoration and Benediction of the Blessed
Sacrament, Chaplet of Divine Mercy, recitation of the Rosary, and, if time
permits, the Stations of the Cross. Also, take the opportunity to go to
the Sacrament of Reconciliation with Fr. Mike McNamara on Chapel grounds
from 3:15 – 5:00 p.m.

The prayer intentions for May are for those suffering from Addictions and
Mental Health Issues, and for the Missions of the World. All are most
welcome to join us to pray for your needs and intentions.

Please share this invitation with family and friends. Spend some quiet time
while receiving the peace and comfort of praying to the Sacred Heart of

studies all budgets and all other Articles that are on the annual Warrant.
They then make recommendations on each Article at the Town Meeting. This is
a high workload committee that we all rely on to do the in depth
evaluations and provide informing commentary.
