Hanover Youth Hockey is looking for new players of all ages, but
especially players between the ages of 5 and 8, to play on their Mite
teams. Hanover Hockey offers fun and competitive programs that will
improve a player’s skating and hockey skills.

MITE PROGRAMS

U6 MITE PROGRAM (Instructional)

· Program is for players born in 2007 and later of all abilities, and
players born in 2005/2006 trying hockey for the first time with
limited skating ability.
· Program consists of skills and weekly games on age appropriate ice
surfaces.

7/8 MITE PROGRAM

· Program is for players born in 2005 or 2006 with some level of
skating/hockey proficiency.
· Program consists of weekly, games, practices and skill sessions.
· Game format will be 16 weeks of age appropriate ice surface games,
followed by 10 weeks of full ice games.
· Teams are divided by skill level.

There are two job postings imbedded in this e-mail; read carefully so
as to avoid any confusion.

The Town of Hanover is accepting applications for Election Inspectors
to work the Election Polls on election day(s). This position is the
temporary/part-time appointment of the Town Clerk which will be
effective August 1, 2013 thru July 30, 2014.

General duties include but are not limited to: two inspectors of
different majority political parties are assigned to the check-in
area. Voters announce their address and name, and the inspectors check
them off on the voting lists. Two other election workers of different
majority political parties shall be stationed at the voting area exit
for the same purpose. Ballot box inspectors assist voters with the
secrecy sleeve and observe that the ballot is fed through the
Accu-Vote vote tabulator accurately. Un-enrolled or third party voters
who are inspectors may be assigned as greeters who assist voters with
entering and exiting the polling area, and may also serve in any of
the previously mentioned roles as long as there is an even number of
inspectors from the majority parties in each precinct. As a member of
our team, this employee needs to work and communicate well with others
to maintain a positive atmosphere.

The Town of Hanover is also accepting applications for Election
Tellers to work the Election Polls on election day(s). This position
is a temporary/part-time appointment of the Town Clerk which will be
effective August 1, 2013 thru July 30, 2014.

General duties include but are not limited to: Tellers shall work
after the election polls close. They shall be assigned to count votes
and shall be instructed in that duty by the Warden or Deputy Warden.
Tellers within a precinct must equally represent the majority parties;
un-enrolled or third party tellers may fill in after equity is
achieved. As a member of our team, this employee needs to work and
communicate well with others to maintain a positive atmosphere.

The successful candidate for either position must be willing to work
up to 12-14 hours on an Election Day and will be required to complete
the on-line State Ethics Training. The rate of pay for either position
is $10.37/hour.

Deadline for application for either position is July 23, 2013. Please

Hanover residents are hereby notified that the Board of Selectmen has
set the calendar for the Special Town Election to be held at Hanover
High School on Saturday, September 28, 2013. The election will be held
to fill the current vacancy on the Board of Selectmen. The important
and relevant dates for the election are as follows:

Last day to obtain nomination papers, by 5:00 p.m. Thursday, August 8

Last day to submit nomination papers to the Registrars
of Voters for certification, by 5:00 p.m. Monday, August 12

Last day to file nomination papers with Town Clerk, by
5:00 p.m. Monday, August 26

Last day to object or withdraw, by 5:00 p.m. Wednesday, August 28

Last day to register voters for Special Town Election, by
8:00 p.m. Friday, September 6

Last day to post or publish warrant for Special Town
Election Friday, September 20

Special Town Election, 10:00 a.m. – 2:00 p.m. Saturday, September 28

All interested candidates for the Selectman’s position are also
hereby informed that nomination papers will be available for
distribution in the Town Clerk’s Office by Friday, July 19th during
normal Town Hall business hours. As a reminder, Town Hall closes at
noon on Fridays. The Town Clerk’s Office is located on the lower
level of Town Hall, 550 Hanover Street in Hanover.

workshop with young adult author Hillary De Baun. Learn some of the

great dialogue. All attendees will receive a copy of Hillary’s first
book, Starring Arabelle, to be signed by the author! We hope you can

Hanover Boy Scouts are now headed to the National Scout Jamboree in
Virginia.

WHAT: Two buses left Hanover today to take 80 local boy scouts and
their gear to the 2013 Boy Scout Jamboree in Virginia.

WHEN: Left this morning with full police escort at 5:45 a.m. sharp

WHY: To participate in the 2013 National Scout Jamboree, a gathering
of thousands of members of the Boy Scouts of America. The event is
held every four years and is organized by the National Council of the
Boy Scouts of America. Scouts from all over the nation and world have
the opportunity to attend. The 2013 National Jamboree is being held at
The Bechtel Summit, situated in the wilds of West Virginia. The Summit
is a high adventure camp and center for the millions of youth and
adults involved in the Boy Scouts of America. The Summit offers many
activities for youth participants and the 300,000 members of the
general public who visit it. It is considered to be scouting at its
best. Almost every National Jamboree has been visited by our
county’s President.

Dear fellow Hanoverians:
I have found that my new job sometimes prevents me from sending
“Around Town on the Web” e-mails in as timely a fashion as I would
like.
That being said, I could not let this latest piece of Hanover news go
unmentioned. Please join me in mourning with the entire Hanover
girls’ soccer community over the death this past week of Hanover
High School Varsity Coach Garth Nelson.
Garth was the only coach the girls’ soccer team has ever known; he
founded the program in 1981. Over the course of those 32 years, he led
the team to 2 state championships and 6 “runners up” years. His
last season as coach marked his 24th straight MIAA state tournament
appearance. Garth also taught Chemistry.
As a high school field hockey coach in the early and mid-90’s, I can
honestly say that Garth was a pleasure to share a field in the fall
with. Respectful and thoughtful, encouraging and enthusiastic, Garth
supported field hockey kids, soccer kids, and all of Hanover’s kids.
It was a tradition for soccer players to cheer on field hockey players
at their field hockey games when the soccer girls were done with their
own practice. As much as I have great respect for soccer players, I am
also sure they learned that little sample of school spirit from Garth.
Garth and his wife raised their daughter right here in Hanover, and
Garth recently and proudly became a grandpa. He also had an off-season
job at a camp in Maine which he loved and always spoke fondly of.
Just 65, Garth leaves us too soon. Visiting hours at the Sullivan
Funeral Home will be today from 4:00 p.m. – 7:00 p.m. and Sunday
from 2:00 p.m. – 5:00 p.m. The funeral will be Monday at 11:00 a.m.
at the First Congregational Church. I can count on one hand the number
of times I have announced the funeral arrangements of a Hanover
resident via “Around Town on the Web”; this one bore repeating
simply because of the depth and breadth of the impact Garth Nelson had
on literally hundreds of Hanover girls during their formative years.
All of our hearts are with Barbara and Meredith. It is an
understatement to say he will be missed.

Dear fellow Hanoverians:
Dancing Waves Camp is back!
Summer is here and that means that Summer Dance Camp is back again for
the /fifth year/! This week-long dance camp is for girls ages 4 – 12.
It is being held August 12th – 16th from 1:00 – 3:00 p.m. each day.
Monday – Wednesday will be at The Dance Studio of Norwell and Thursday
– Friday will be at 51 Stone Meadow Lane in Hanover. The cost is $45
for the week and all of the proceeds from camp will be going towards
the Hope for Caroline Foundation. The girls will learn a dance
throughout the week and perform their recital on Friday for family and
friends. The teachers of this camp have many years of dancing
experience. Please let them know if your daughter is interested in
attending our camp – via e-mail or phone, and they will send you a
registration form. You may print registration forms off of their
website as well. Registration forms are due 7/15. Additional notices

The American Girl Summer Raffle Basket with Saige (the American Girl

Labor Day. Visit the children’s circulation desk at the library to see

— and you will be supporting the programs and passes that you enjoy!
The Friends of the John Curtis Library will draw the winning ticket
