Hanover Newcomers starts the new year

Dear fellow Hanoverians,
The Hanover Newcomers is a social club for women who enjoy making new
friends and participating in various activities including social
outings, family events, and community service. You don’t have to be
“new” to Hanover to be a member and now is a great time to join! New
Member events will be happening throughout the next few months and our
Playgroups are forming too.
Join us at our annual Dessert Social to be held Wednesday September
11th from 7:30-10:30 p.m. This event is casual and “Open House”
style, so come anytime and bring a friend or neighbor.

During the month of September, our Playgroup committee will be hosting
meet ups at the Hanover Parks and Rec Playground (located at the B.
Everett Hall Playground Complex) on 9/4, 9/11, and 9/18 from
9:30-11:30 a.m. Playgroup coordinators Cheryl Fay and Stacy Speckmann
will be on site to greet those interested in joining a playgroup or
becoming new members of the club. Playgroup sessions run from October
through June.

Please contact Lainie Kemp or Jill Kapur from our Membership committee
for further information, or go to the Newcomers website at
www.hanovernewcomersclub.com
. General inquiries may be directed to club President Kim Millian at
kimmillian@gmail.com

Red Sox ticket on-line auction today and tomorrow

Dear fellow Hanoverians:

A pair of Red Sox tickets has been donated for another on-line auction
right here on “Around Town on the Web” – this time to benefit The
Last Resort Cat Shelter in Hanover. Proceeds of the auction will help
the shelter raise money to care for abandoned and injured cat and
kittens. The tickets are reported to be great seats (Grandstand 24,
row 9, seats 5 and 6), for the game on Wednesday, September 4, 2013,
game starting at 7:10 p.m., when the Red Sox will play—and we hope
soundly defeat—the Detroit Tigers. The face value of the tickets is
$50 each ($100 for the pair).

Since opening in 1981, The Last Resort has rescued and placed more
than 12,000 kittens and adult cats in new homes. In addition, another
4,000 plus feral cats have been spayed or neutered and returned to
areas where they have shelter and people willing to feed them, letting
these ferals live out their lives and preventing the birth of
thousands of unwanted kittens.

For those who are relatively new to this list, here’s how it works.
Bidding will begin at $50 (total) for the two tickets immediately, and
will be accomplished simply by sending an e-mail to cathyhb@atotw.com

. Once you enter a bid, you will be added to the distribution list
that will keep you updated on the latest bid (as best as humanly
possible!). Bids will be accepted until exactly 6:00 p.m. on Sunday,
August 25. If two bids for the same amount are received, the earlier
bid will take precedence. So, it is to your advantage to bid your best
price early. Bids received by me after 6:00 p.m. (computer clock time)
on Sunday will not be considered. So don’t wait until it is too
late! Bid now to see the Red Sox on Wednesday, September 4 and help
raise money for the Last Resort Cat Shelter all at the same time!
It’s a win-win!

EEE and West Nile follow-up

Dear fellow Hanoverians:
I am just back from a college-viewing road trip with my two teenagers
and therefore apologize for the lack of recent “Around Town on the
Web” news as a result!
I think it is simply priceless that I received a phone call and three
e-mails regarding the fact that I hadn’t sent out the detailed
e-mail version of the EEE/West Nile alert that came via a reverse-911
call last Friday afternoon. I love that “ATOTW” has become a
resource that you count on. The good news: there’s solid and
detailed information about the health warning on the Town of Hanover
website. Even better news, the link to the press release is here:
http://www.hanover-ma.gov/sites/hanoverma/files/file/file/west_nile_eee_notice_8-2-13_revised.pdf

Congrats to Health Agent Tony Marino and Town Manager Troy Clarkson
for improving our town’s website and making this information
available so readily. Contact information for more information about
the health warning is within the press release.
