Dear fellow Hanoverians:

The Hanover Cultural Council is seeking grant proposals for
community-oriented arts, humanities, and science programs. The
postmark deadline is October 15 for applications from organizations,
schools, and individuals for grants that support cultural activities.
According to Council Chairperson Katie Duff, grants can support a
variety of artistic projects and activities in Hanover, including
exhibits, festivals, field trips, short-term artist residencies or
performances in schools, workshops, and lectures.

This year, the Hanover Cultural Council will distribute about $4,250
in grants. Previously funded projects include: Plimouth Plantation
Library Passes, Harbour Choral Arts Society, Hanover Diversity
Committee—Diversity Day at the Hanover Mall, Hanover High School
choral music programs, Mass Audubon “Owl Prowl” at Hanover COA,
Hanover Historical Society’s “Ragging the Scale,” and more.

The Senior Center is accepting donations of yarn through October 31.
The yarn is used to make blankets and chemo caps which are donated to
South Shore hospitals. The Senior Center, located at 665 Center
Street, is open from 8:00 a.m.—4:00 p.m. Monday through Friday.

Dear fellow Hanoverians:

Each school in Hanover has a School Council consisting of parents,
teachers, representatives of the community, and administrators.
Hanover High School’s School Council has an opening for someone to
fill the role of community representative. This person may be any
Hanover resident who does not currently have children attending the
high school. There is a meeting approximately once a month during the
school year.

School Councils exist to assist principals in four areas: adopting
educational goals for the school that are consistent with local
educational policies and statewide student performance standards;
identifying the educational needs of students attending the school;
reviewing the annual school building budget, and formulating a school
improvement plan. The High School Council also reviews the student
handbook each spring to consider changes in disciplinary policy, any
such changes to take effect the following school year.

Security Administration will discuss Social Security benefits at the
Hanover Senior Center (665 Center Street). Topics include: online
services, cost of living adjustments, and applying for extra help with
prescription costs. A question and answer sessions will follow the

On Sunday, September 22 at 9:30 a.m., the Reverend Manny Mill, a
nationally recognized inspirational speaker from Chicago and Executive
Director of Koinonia House, will speak at the First Congregational
Church of Hanover. Koinonia House is a ministry which assists
Christian ex-prisoners return to society. Reverend Mill is the author
of the book Radical Redemption: The Real Story of Manny Mill. The book
describes the journey he took from Cuba, to running from the FBI in
Venezuela, to living a life of faith and service. For more

Dear fellow Hanoverians:
Would your child enjoy making new recipes to share with friends and
family? At “Cook with Me,” children, grades 1 through 6, will
learn basic kitchen skills and make delicious meals and desserts. Led
by Instructor Lee Ann Arbia, the group will explore food from
different South American countries, including empanadas, cinnamon
rolls, cake, tacos, and more.
There are two sessions, one on Thursday afternoons (Oct. 3, 10, 17,
24, and Nov. 7) from 4:30—6:00 pm, the other on Saturday mornings
(Oct. 5, 12, 19, 26, and Nov. 2) from 10—11:30 am. “Cook With
Me” will be held at Hanover Parks and Recreation Center (624 Circuit
Street). The fee is $100.

will host an Outdoor Family Photograph Fundraiser. Maura Longueil of

), well-known throughout Hanover and the South Shore, will be
available all day in the beautiful area between the library and the
Stetson house. Cost is $99 per session with each family receiving a
complimentary 8×10 print. These photographs make excellent holiday

winner of their summer raffle basket. Congratulations to Katherina
Mini who won the American Girl Basket featuring Saige (American Doll
of the Year), her two books, dog, and beautiful outfit donated by
Storybook Cove in Hanover. The Friends is grateful to Janet Bibeau of
Storybook Cove for her many donations to library raffle baskets.

GloGirl Yoga for girls ages 10—15 will be offered on Mondays from
October 7 through November 25, 4:30—5:30 p.m. (no class on Columbus
Day or Veterans Day). In addition to exploring the basics of yoga,
this program will help participants feel empowered and gain
confidence, learn how to manage stress, build self-esteem, and so much
more. The program will be led by Tina Maalouly, a certified Yoga

Dear fellow Hanoverians,

The Friends of The Hanover High School Library is looking for a few
volunteers to help monitor the library after school so students can
use it to study or quietly meet Mondays through Thursdays from 2—4
pm. The Friends, now in its third year, needs individuals who can
volunteer for two hours, either once every other week, once a month,
or once a semester. There are a few shifts open between October 16 and
December 19. All members of the community are welcome to volunteer.
