Dear fellow Hanoverians:

The Town of Hanover has resumed the acceptance and processing of
applications for passport books and passport cards. Passport
applications are available at the Department of Municipal Inspections
Passport Office on the second floor of Town Hall or at the Town
Clerk’s office, both at 550 Hanover Street.

Helpful information about applying for a passport can be found on the
Town’s website at http://www.hanover-ma.gov/passports.shtml

Additional passport information and printable applications can also be
found at www.travel.state.gov
.

Passport photos are available at the Town Clerk’s office for a fee
of $10.00.

*Passport application acceptance hours for the Town of Hanover are as
follows:*

Tuesday: 8:00 a.m. to 11:30 a.m.
Wednesday: 8:00 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. and 4:00 p.m. to 7:30 p.m.
Thursday: 11:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m.

The Hanover Cultural Council is now seeking funding proposals for
community-oriented arts, humanities, and science programs!

The Hanover Cultural Council has set an October 15 postmark deadline
for organizations, schools and individuals to apply for grants that
support cultural activities in the community.

According to Council Chairperson Katie Duff, these grants may support
a variety of artistic projects and activities in Hanover including
exhibits, festivals, field trips, short-term artist residencies or
performances in schools, workshops and lectures.

The Hanover Cultural Council is part of a network of 329 Local
Cultural Councils (LCC) serving all 351 cities and towns in the
Commonwealth. The LCC Program is the largest grassroots cultural
funding network in the nation, supporting thousands of community-based
projects in the arts, sciences and humanities every year. The state
legislature provides an annual appropriation to the Massachusetts
Cultural Council, a state agency, which then allocates funds to each
community.

This year, the Hanover Cultural Council will distribute about $3,870
in state funded grants. Previously funded projects include: Plimouth
Plantation and Heritage Museum library passes, Whale Day at Hanover
Middle School, an “Introduction to Birding in Hanover” with
Massachusetts Audubon, artists in residence in the Hanover Schools,
and sponsorship of groups in Hanover including the Harbor Choral Arts
Society and the Hanover Diversity Committee.

Dear fellow Hanoverians:
This Saturday and Sunday, October 6th and 7th, Hanover Boy Scout Troop
38 Pumpkin Patch Sale returns! This annual event features hundreds of
fantastic pumpkins, gourds and mums. Come and enjoy hot dogs, mulled
cider and some of the finest baked goods around. The sale is held rain
or shine from 8:00 a.m. until 6:00 p.m. both days in front of St.
Mary’s Church at 392 Hanover Street. Once you choose your pumpkins,
you can paint them for free!!! Halloween will be here before you know
it, so come support Troop 38…..you won’t want to miss this great
event!!!

*Graves and Gossip: A Graveyard Tour*

Join the Hanover Historical Society on Saturday, September 15th for a
tour of intrigue, mystery and gossip from long ago. While the dead lay
slumbering in their graves, the Society will unearth Hanover’s
secret past. Come hear the tales of a murderer in an unmarked grave
and a Hawaiian sailor who lost his way. Re-live Hanover through its
heroes and heroines and see who survived to tell the tale. The walking
tour will last about an hour and will begin at 4:00 p.m. at the Main
Street entrance of Hanover’s Central Burying Ground. Light
refreshments will be served in the barn after the tour.

The program begins at 4:00 p.m. FREE. No reservations required. For

The Hanover Historical Society is a 501(C3) nonprofit organization.
The society was incorporated on March 1, 1928. Hanover Historical

Dear fellow Hanoverians:
Mark your calendars for the “BEST EVER” Yard Sale to be held this
Saturday, September 15th, from 8:00 a.m. – 2:00 p.m. at the First
Congregational Church (corner of Route 139 and Silver Street,
Hanover).
They’ve got everything!! There’s a huge selection of housewares,
collectibles, children’s items, sporting goods, kids bikes, furniture,
beds, framed art, books, holiday items, jewelry, stained glass, and
tools. They have a lot of vintage items, glassware, cameras with
accessories, a violin, and a silver plated tea service to name just a
few, along with many unique one-of-a-kind pieces. They will have $1
tables and 25-cent tables!! All items are priced to sell; you won’t
want to miss this one!!
Donations are welcome and can be dropped off at Riley Hall on Friday,
September 14th between 11:00 a.m. – 7:00 p.m.
No early birds please. They’ll be working hard to get everything set
up and ready for the 8:00 a.m. start time. All proceeds benefit the

Dear fellow Hanoverians:
The Friends of the John Curtis Free Library are very pleased to
announce the winners of their summer raffle baskets.

Congratulations to Mary Hernon who won the McKenna/AmericanGirl
Basket, Aayah Zaynoune who won the Children’s Good Life Raffle Basket,
and Jan Cartwright who won the Adult Good Life Basket. Many, many
thanks to all who participated in this annual event and helped raise
hundreds of dollars for library programs and passes.

The Friends of the John Curtis Free Library extend our sincere
gratitude to all of the wonderful local cultural organizations who
made these baskets possible: the Isabella Stewart Gardner Museum, the
Heritage Museum and Gardens, the John F. Kennedy Presidential Library
and Museum, Historic New England, the Institute of Contemporary
Art/Boston, the Peabody Essex Museum, the Harvard Museum of Natural
History, the South Shore Natural Science Center, Zoo New England, and
the New England Aquarium.

*The Massachusetts Department of Public Health (MDPH) announced today
that EEE virus has been detected in mosquitoes collected from Hanover,
Massachusetts. Hanover has had one EEE virus positive mosquito sample
taken on September 6, 2012 and identified on September 11, 2012. *
*While the Hanover Board of Health continues to work closely with the
MDPH, the Board of Health on September 11, 2012 has closed all
recreational fields and school property for outdoor activities from
six (6) p.m. to seven (7) a.m. This will remain in effect until such
time that Hanover experiences a “killing frost” (temperatures at
or below 32 degrees).*
EEE is a rare but serious illness spread by the bite of an infected
mosquito. While EEE can infect people of all ages, people under 15
years of age or over 50 years of age are at greatest risk for serious
illness.

Dear fellow Hanoverians:
The Hanover Foundation for Educational Enrichment invites residents to
attend their first meeting of the 2012-2013 school year on Thursday,
September 20th at 7:30 p.m. It will be held at the Salmond School
Administrative Offices on Broadway. Come and find out what the
Foundation is about and how you can get involved.

The Foundation is a volunteer, non-profit organization with a broad
mission to foster excellence and innovation in the education of young
people in the Hanover Public Schools. The Foundation’s objective is to
raise funds for educational enrichment programs that benefit all
students. Last year, the Foundation appropriated $15,000 in funds for
grants submitted by teachers throughout the school system. They hope
to see you on the 20th.

Dear fellow Hanoverians:

The Hanover Police Department will be hosting a Child Safety Seat
Inspection and Child Identification program on *Saturday, September
15th*. Licensed technicians and police officers will be on site
assisting parents with the proper installation of their children’s
car seats. Parents of children participating in the Child
Identification program will receive a CD of their child’s
fingerprints and a photograph. Both child safety programs will be held
from 9:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m., rain or shine, at *S-Bank, 1165
Washington Street, Hanover* (located in front of Target). For further
information regarding the Car Seat Safety or the Child Identification
Programs, please contact Walter Sweeney, Chief of Police,

Along with the two police sponsored programs/, *S*/*-Bank* will be
hosting their Annual Community Shred Day. Residents are invited to
shred all old papers and personal documents. The shred truck will be
on site from 9:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. on September 15th. For information

Anyone wishing to donate to the food pantry may do so during these
programs, also.
