St. Andrew’s celebrates spring! Their annual Spring Fling will be held
on Saturday, May 5th from 10:00 a.m. – 2:00 p.m. at St. Andrew’s
Church, located at 17 Church Street. There will be crafters, books,
and plants for sale just in time to shop for Mother’s Day, teacher
gifts, and graduations. Food and fun galore! There will be something
for everyone. Join them as we welcome spring!

Dear fellow Hanoverians:
All dogs six months of age and older must be licensed by the Town
Clerk. Evidence of a current rabies vaccination must be provided.
Anyone requiring a dog license can come to the Town Clerk’s Office.
The cost is $5.00 for a neutered/spayed dog, but after Monday, April
30th, a $25 late fee will apply! The Clerk’s Office opens at 8:00
a.m. on Monday.

For the third straight year, Matt and Ryan Shea will be running
Hanover Adult Boot Camp. This affordable Hanover Park and Recreation
program was designed for adults who find it tough to exercise on a
regular basis. The Adult Boot Camp’s perfect combination of
cardiovascular, resistance and flexibility training will lead to
significant results for all participants. Our goal at Adult Boot Camp
is to provide adults with the physical activity that is often
neglected due to daily dedications to work and family life. Make this
program the jumpstart for your brand new healthy and active lifestyle!

*The Walnut Hill Garden Club of Hanover* invites interested members of
the public to a free lecture on Tuesday evening, May 1st at 7:15 p.m.,
at the Phoenix Masonic Lodge, on the corner of Broadwayand Washington
Streets. Our featured speaker is Irwin Ehrenreich, proprietor with his
wife Cindy of The Rose Man, a Rose Garden Design and Rose Care Service
located on Cape Cod. Mr. Ehrenreich has designed and planted rose
gardens throughout Cape Cod and Southeastern Massachusetts, including
gardens at Heritage Museums and Gardens in Sandwich and at Edaville in
Carver. His Barnstable rose garden, with over 600 roses, was featured
on the New England Cable News show “New England Dream House”, in
“A Garden Lover’s Cape Cod” by C.L.Fornari, and in the Spring
2008 issue of Country Garden Magazine. The garden at his former
nursery in Carver was featured in the Boston Globe

Ehrenreich will speak on the history of roses and demystify their
classification. In his talk he will discuss how to select roses that
will thrive in our environment and the micro culture of /your /garden,
including disease resistant and easy care varieties. He will
illustrate his talk with beautiful photos of roses and his own
gardens. If you ever think you would like to try roses in your garden
but are afraid they will be too much work and trouble, you will want

Walnut Hill Garden Club of Hanover, Massachusetts was founded in 1967
and in 1969 became a member of the National Council of Federated
Garden Clubs incorporated in St. Louis, Missouri. It is a member of
The South Shore District of the Garden Club Federation of
Massachusetts based in Wellesley Hills, MA. The club’s objectives are
to promote the advancement of gardening, concern for the environment,
encouragement of individual creativity, civic involvement through
beautification and education, and the cultivation of friendship within
the community. The club’s activities are limited to and operated
exclusively for charitable and educational purposes.

Drive One 4UR School, Hanover High School, Saturday April 28th, 10:00
a.m. – 5:00 p.m.

Take a free test-drive and Ford Motor Company will donate to Hanover
High School. For each test drive that takes place, Ford Motor Company
will make a $20.00 donation, up to a total of $6,000. The Class of
2014 is also making a contribution to the American Cancer Society. No
purchase is necessary to take the test drive! The event is generously
sponsored by Jannell Motors, Hanover.

Fun family events will be held during the day, including a car wash,
barbecue, and raffle! Each test drive participant is also eligible to
enter a drawing to win an all-new Ford Escape!

Drivers must be 18 years of age or older with a valid driver’s
license. Limit one donation per household.

Come join the Class of 2014 this Saturday, April 28th and enjoy a

Dear fellow Hanoverians:
I had the distinct pleasure of meeting with our new Town Manager
yesterday, and I am delighted to forward these words of introduction
of him to all of you!

Troy Clarkson comes to the Town of Hanover with a passion and
enthusiasm for local government that started at the age of 23, when he
was elected a Selectman in Falmouth, and continues today. He most
recently served as the Town Manager in Bridgewater, which followed
stints as the County Administrator for Plymouth County, the Assistant
to the Mayor in Attleboro, and the Director of Business Services in
the Town of Bourne. Local government is in his blood. “I am honored to
be in Hanover, and look forward to immersing myself in this great
community,” he said.

Troy is very excited to have been unanimously appointed by the
Selectmen, and, at a recent meeting, acknowledged the sound foundation
created by his predecessor Stephen Rollins, and the current Board of
Selectmen. He has already met with department heads and members of the
community, and encourages residents to stop in and say hello. “This is
the peoples’ building where we do the peoples’ business,” said the
local government veteran. “The Selectmen stressed that an important
role of the Town Manager is being an effective communicator. I will
work hard to fulfill that challenge,” he continued. The new Town
Manager will be working with Selectmen to establish goals for the
coming year, to provide a “road map” on the direction of the
community.

Troy lives in Falmouth, the town he has called home since his
childhood, and is the father of two daughters, Sydney (20) and Jenna
(17). He is a 1990 graduate of Boston College. Please see the attached

For the sixth straight year, Matthew and Ryan Shea will be hosting the
Champion Soccer Camp through the Hanover Parks and Rec Department. The
camp aims to improve the players’ understanding of the game while
helping them mature as both players and people. Champion Soccer Camp
prides itself on having the best staff around. Staff members have been
acclaimed for their enthusiasm, knowledge, and ability to teach the
game. All staff members are young and have played at some of the
highest levels of soccer that exist in the United States. Not only
will your child be learning from the best players around, but your
child will have a blast at the same time!

Town Meeting and Town Election season is upon us! As always, “Around
Town on the Web” is delighted to offer this venue to candidates and
town meeting participants to highlight candidacies or issues of
interest. Submissions will be edited for clarity, bias, and length,
but are welcomed and appreciated!

Our first submission comes from Hanover resident Chris Haraden, the
lead sponsor for Town Meeting Article 54, and is as follows:

A citizen’s petition article on the May 7th Annual Town Meeting
warrant asks voters to revisit last year’s decision to tear down the
1896 Curtis School.

The motion on the article, as printed in the warrant, reads:
“Article 54. To see if the Town will vote to rescind its vote under
Article 28 of the May 2, 2011 Annual Town Meeting, and to direct the
Town Moderator to appoint a Curtis School Task Force to conduct a
comprehensive review, involving any applicable town departments,
boards, committees, community groups, and private parties, of all
available data and options for the building and land at 848 Main
Street, including, but not limited to, repair, renovation, alteration,
adaptive reuse, sale or lease of structures. Said Task Force shall
issue its report and recommendations no later than the next Annual
Town Meeting, or to take any other action in relation thereto.”

Last year, Article 28 appropriated $75,000 to tear down the school.
The Hanover Historical Commission later voted to delay demolition of
the building for a year. More information, including reports,
