/April is Jazz Appreciation Month, and there’s no better way to
appreciate something than through direct experience! Come enjoy a
night of live jazz performed by the HHS Jazz Bands, and dance the
night away to America’s original art music! A group swing dance lesson
is included with admission, so don’t miss out on this great
opportunity to learn to swing dance, as well as to support these hard
working young musicians! An assortment of light refreshments will also
be served!

General admission – $10

Students – $5

Senior Citizens – Free!

Dear fellow Hanoverians:
St. Andrew’s is joining with Trinity Episcopal Church in Rockland in
the “Walk to Stock” benefit for the Hanover and Rockland Food
Pantries. On May 19th, the two churches will sponsor a 6 mile
walkathon beginning at St. Andrew’s (located at 17 Church Street) and
ending in Rockland at Trinity Church. All proceeds will benefit the
food pantries.

Want to walk? Sponsor sheets are available at St. Andrew’s, Trinity
Church and both the Rockland and Hanover food pantries. The Hanover
Food Pantry will have sheets available on Mondays from 9:30 a.m. –
11:30 a.m. and they are located at 583 Webster Street. Registration
for the walk will begin on May 19th at 8:30 a.m. and the walk will
start at 9:30 a.m.

Join them and help stock the food pantries for the coming summer

Dear fellow Hanoverians:
There will be two benefit concerts at Hanover High School’s Robert J.
Nyman Memorial Auditorium on the nights of Friday, May 4th and
Saturday, May 5th. The shows are part of the Senior Capstone Project
of Hanover High seniors Alex Sennett and Tyler Cheo. Their band,
Hanover’s own Risky Business Band, (including Myles Sweeney, junior at
Hanover High, and Ben Shirley, junior at Brooks Academy in Beverly)
will headline the event. The show will feature magic, comedy, and of
course music; and is raising money for three groups: the Cancer
Support Community of the South Shore, the individual class treasuries
of Hanover High School (Classes of ’12, ’13, ’14, and ’15), and the
Hanover High School Music Department.
The goal of the project, say organizers Sennett and Cheo, is “to
raise funds for worthy causes with a professional quality event, one
that a person would pay to see in a professional venue.” The students
hope to gain real world experience out of planning and executing
events of this magnitude. Tickets are $5 for any student (college or
high school) from any town, and $10 for adults. Doors will open at
7:00 p.m. and the show will begin at 7:30 p.m. each night.

The Hanover Diversity Committee is proud to present /In Our Family:
Portraits of All Kinds of Families/ at the John Curtis Free Library
from Monday, April 30 through Saturday, May 26.
/In Our Family: Portraits of All Kinds of Families, is a touring
photo-text display created by the award-winning Family Diversity
Projects of Amherst, Massachusetts. In Our Family/ celebrates the
diversity of family life in 21st century America. The exhibit
introduces viewers to single-parent families, families living with
physical or mental challenges, immigrant families, adoptive families,
foster families, divorced families, gay and lesbian-parented families,
stepfamilies, multiracial families, multi-generational families, and
many others in the family circle. /In Our Family/ illustrates happy
and flourishing families of all types and demonstrates that every
family configuration should be appreciated and celebrated.
/In Our Family travels nationwide to schools (K-12), colleges, public
libraries, workplaces, places of worship, conferences, museums, and
communities nationwide. The Hanover Diversity Committee arranged for
this exhibit to visit Hanover with generous funding from the Hanover
Cultural Council. In Our Family/ is free and open to the public during
regular library hours. All are welcome to join the Diversity Committee
for light refreshments at the opening reception on Tuesday, May 8 from
6:00 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. at the library.

Dear fellow Hanoverians:

The Postal Workers Annual Food Drive is almost here again! It will be
held Saturday, May 12, 2012. There will be a combination of food drive
volunteers and postal service workers making the rounds. The Hanover
Food Pantry is in serious need of volunteers on that day again this
year. What better way to support residents of our town in need? Please
consider volunteering at the food pantry! It is also a great way for
those who need service hours to accrue some time for a good cause.

The good folks at the Hanover Food Pantry need:

• Drivers and gatherers (beginning as early as 10:00 a.m. or anytime
up through 3:00 p.m.) to go out on assigned routes for food pick-up.
Take a long route or a short route, no matter what; your help will be
appreciated. You’ll be given a map, and you will bring the food you
gather back to the pantry.

• Sorters to be stationed at the pantry from 11:00 a.m. through 5:00
p.m., in two hour shifts. Feel free to stay as long as you like. The
food pantry will supply water, soda, coffee or tea and PB&J
sandwiches, along with hard work and a good time.

Anyone wishing to volunteer to drive and pick up or sort donations can
do so by emailing Sally Lovett Boutin at kidsense@comcast.net

or calling her at 781-826-6485, or on her cell at 781-799-0053.

Remember that all collected food stocks the shelves of our very own
Hanover Food Pantry for our friends and neighbors in need. The food
that is gathered each year at the Postal Workers Annual Food Drive
sees those in need through the summer when the churches, civic
organizations, schools and other groups stop or slow their regular
collections. Your support will be greatly appreciated.

There are two programs coming next week to the John Curtis Library, as
follows:
“Too Human: A Celebration of Song”

On Monday, April 23rd at 7:00 p.m., the Friends of the John Curtis
Library, in conjunction with a grant from the Hanover Cultural
Council, proudly present “Too Human” performing music from the
American songbook. They cover jazz standards with a fresh
interpretation that brings new life to older compositions. With
guitars, vocals, percussion, and bass, they produce a jazzy/bluesy
feel with a lot of heart.

“Two Old Friends”

The Friends of the John Curtis Library are once again sponsoring a
return to the Library of “Two Old Friends”. On Wednesday, April
25th at 7:00 p.m., Mac McHale and Emery Hutchins will once again
delight audiences with a combination of Irish music and American
country music.

There is no charge for admission for either of these events and
refreshments will be served. The library is located on Hanover Street
(Route 139) in Hanover Center. For further information about these

St. Andrew’s Episcopal Church is seeking crafters and vendors for its
Spring Fling on May 5th from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m.
The event will be widely publicized through news media, Facebook,
posters in the community and lawn signs. The fair has been expanded
this year to include family fun including face painting, cotton candy
and hotdogs/hamburgers. As always, there will be plenty of one stop
shopping for Mother’s Day, Father’s Day, graduations and all those
upcoming special events!

Dear fellow Hanoverians:

Please start your spring cleaning and plan to donate soon to the
Annual Book and Bake Sale (Saturday, May 19) as hosted by the Friends
of the John Curtis Free Library! Donations will be gratefully accepted
from April 30– May 18.

This is the biggest fundraiser for the Friends, and they rely on the
town to donate any and all books, CDs, tapes, DVDs, videos, and
puzzles in good condition. Please gather these items now for the
library and help fund extra programs, book acquisitions, and
museum/cultural passes for all.
Do you enjoy reading the latest novels? Are you a Barnes and Noble
regular? Do you belong to a book group? Do you have a stash of former
bestsellers that are just gathering dust on your shelves? The Friends
are also in need of some of the more popular and recent bestsellers.
Thanks in advance for these special donations that will enhance our
once-a-year sale.
All donations may be dropped off at the library during regular library
hours. The library will continue to accept donations until Friday, May
18 (no magazines or textbooks please). Please be advised that the
public book sale room will be closed beginning April 30 so that they
may organize for the sale.

The Friends are also looking for people who can help with the bake
sale at this event. If you are interested in baking, please sign the
list at either the adult or the children circulation desks or contact

First Congregational Church of Hanover invites all children entering K
through completing 5th grade to become Divers-In-Training at
“OPERATION OVERBOARD: DARE TO GO DEEP WITH GOD! VACATION BIBLE
SCHOOL”.
Explore and experience the underwater universe at Vacation Bible
School (VBS). The fun begins Monday, August 20 and ends Friday, August
24 and goes from 9:00 a.m. to 12:00 noon at 17 Silver Street in
Hanover. The adventure includes deep sea voyages into Bible fun,
exciting water science, cool underwater crafts, high-energy songs,
