information and came across three documents related to two issues –
the budget and the roads – that I thought would be of interest to you.

“Park and Rec” is a memorable camp experience that has made a
significant impact in the lives of countless Hanover residents over
the past 50 years.

OUR PURPOSE To provide an inexpensive, age-appropriate opportunity for
all youth to experience outdoor recreation, both passive and active
with their peers, all while creating great memories and new friends.

OUR PROGRAM The Park and Rec program consists of four sessions
(Session One is 1 week at $60, Sessions 2-4 are 2 weeks at $150). This
program is open to all Hanover residents K-6. Each grade travels
together to different stations every 55 minutes, these stations range
from Arts and Crafts to Floor Hockey to Tennis. Within each grade
level 14 children are assigned a counselor to guide them and provide
activities throughout the day. The counselor groups are usually done
alphabetically and just for attendance purposes. The entire grade
plays together. Along with the counselors, the Parks and Recreation
Department also employs four Assistant Directors and two Directors.
The Assistant Directors provide services such as first aid help,
weekly talent shows, tournaments and arts and crafts. The two
directors oversee all aspects of camp including field trips, pizza
days, t-shirt distribution as well as the normal day to day
operations.

OUR PROMISE To do everything possible to allow all children to have
the best possible summer by creating many opportunities for children
to have fun all summer long.

“Teen Extreme” is an exciting unique experience for middle schoolers
bridging the gap between organized summer activities and field trips.
OUR PURPOSE To provide an inexpensive, age-appropriate opportunity for
all middle schoolers to socialize and stay active during the summer.

OUR PROGRAM The Teen Extreme is a field trip based, exploration
program that consists of seven, 1 week sessions at $120 per
week/child. This program is open to all Hanover residents in 5th –
8th grades. Each week, children travel to two new and exciting places
across Massachusetts, New Hampshire, and Rhode Island. During Rec
Center days many activities are offered by the staff however, the
campers choose whether to participate or not. New this year we are
adding a cooking class (5 out of 7 weeks) and sports program.

OUR PROMISE To allow for fun age appropriate activities for the Middle
Schoolers of Hanover to enjoy and experience each week of the summer.

“Kids Klub” is an introductory program to get young children and
families interested in Park and Rec summer activities and the place
where first friends are made!

OUR PURPOSE To provide an inexpensive, age-appropriate opportunity for
potty trained 3-6 year olds to socialize and have fun with other
children their age. Kids Klub will serve as a “recruitment tool”
for future Park and Rec participants and hopefully life long fans of
our summer programs.

OUR PROGRAM Kids Klub is a unique pre-k program that runs over the
course of 7 weeks. Session One is 1 week while Session Two, Three and
Four are 2 weeks. We offer two different options for parents. Option
1) Three days a week on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Fridays at the Rec
Center; Option 2) adds Mondays and Wednesdays at the Pre-K Playground
at B. Everett Hall (Sylvester) Field. Both options start at

know what you are missing. I felt like I was listening to Melissa

as the door is open and you are not required to sing, just have
fun!”

The Spirit of Hanover Community Service Award Committee is accepting
nominations for the recipient of the 11th Annual Spirit of Hanover
Community Service Award.

This Award is presented annually to an individual who best exemplifies
the spirit of Hanover by voluntarily giving selflessly of their time,
energy and talent to the Town and its citizens thus enriching our
lives, fostering a true sense of community and inspiring us all to a
higher level of service.

Nominations should be in writing and should articulate *in detail* how
the nominee satisfies these criteria.

Nominations must be postmarked not later than March 2, 2012 and should

Registration for HYAA 2012 baseball and softball ends tomorrow,
Tuesday, January 31st. Late registration then begins Wednesday,
February 1st and runs for two weeks until February 14th. Late
registration will be only as space is available, and a $25 late fee
per child, per sport, will apply. On February 15th, all registrations
will be closed. HYAA will only accept on-line late registrations;
there are no paper registrations anymore. On-line registration may be
completed at www.hyaa.net
.

HYAA Spring 2012 soccer registration for all players (in grades K –
high school) is now full and closed. Players may still sign up, but
will be “wait-listed”. Wait-listing does not a guarantee that players
will be placed on a team; they will be notified if there is space
available if/as soon as a position opens.

Dear fellow Hanoverians:
As a follow up to their fall safety tips e-mail, the Hanover Woman’s
Club Juniors sent along the following public service announcement for
Hanover residents:
Get prepared for winter storm emergencies!
· Buy non-perishable food such as peanut butter and jelly, crackers,
dry cereal, chips, breakfast bars, pudding cups, water, juices, etc.
Put these items away just in case you cannot get to the store for a
day or two. Food for the animals in your house is also important to
them.
· Make sure you have enough batteries for radios, flashlight, clocks
and games. You should have a flashlight for each member of the family.
Stock up on candles with secure holders and matches.
· Have hats, gloves, mittens, scarves, snow pants and boots
available.
· Have games appropriate for children. Cards, board games, hide and
seek in the house, reading books, storytelling, singing, paper and
pencils, crayons, paint, etc. This helps to pass the time since the TV
and electronic games and cell phones will not work until electricity
is restored.
· If you find yourself without electricity for a few days, being in
the dark is scary for young children. If you have sleeping bags, put
them all in one room and pretend you are camping! The young ones will
adjust better to knowing you are nearby.
· Make sure you have enough gas in your car or truck. Check the oil,
water, and antifreeze and windshield washer fluid. A folding shovel is
a must if you must dig your car out of a snow bank.
· Keep extra sets of hats, coats, socks, mittens, sweaters,
sweatpants, blankets, water and crackers in the trunk of your car or
truck just in case you’re stuck in your vehicle due to break downs
on the highway for an extended period of time.
· Make sure your snow blower has enough fuel and is in working
condition.
· How about the old shovel? Is it still good, or does it need to be
replaced?
· Stock up on kitty litter or sand for the stairs and walkway.
· Shovel your mail box out.
· If you have a fire hydrant nearby, make sure it is shoveled out.
· If you go sledding with the family, make sure everyone wears a
helmet.
· Enjoy the storm, it will only last a short time.

Dear fellow Hanoverians:

A Hanover mother of three teen-aged children, Trish Schneider, was in
a very serious car accident this fall. As a result of her accident,
she lost her arm. She has had multiple surgeries and is waiting to
recover to get a prosthetic arm. It will be a long road. Before this
accident she was a full-time nurse. Now she is not able to work, and
has no idea when or even if she will be able to work again. The oldest
child will be old enough to go to college in a couple of years, and we
all know what those costs will be like.

So, her friends are having a benefit to help her out and have asked
“Around Town on the Web” for assistance in getting the word out.
This is going to be a SURPRISE, so PLEASE do not mention it to her or
her family, or to kids who might let the cat out of the bag!

The party will be held as follows:

7:00 p.m. to midnight
Knights of Columbus, Pembroke, Route 139

Tickets: $20 per person
A silent auction and raffles will be held that night, too!

what we do here in Hanover; we take care of each other!

(and also completely free) deal for Hanover residents. The following
