Tweens rock! Yoga is a fabulous way for girls to have a great time and
learn about themselves in a supportive environment.

In addition to exploring the basics of yoga, this program will help

We are so excited to start a new yoga class that allows parents to
practice yoga while your children have a safe fun time at our Rec
Center. We will start class all together with 10 minutes of warm ups
and stretching with the children, then off they go for lunch and
supervised playtime.

Adults will explore yoga postures (asanas) and flow (vinyasa) – Take
some well deserved time out for yourself while calming your mind,
building strength, and having fun. Learn to achieve a deeper
connection with your body, breath, and spirit as you experience a
workout that challenges your body, increases your ability to focus and
offers a sense of peace.
All levels welcome! Bring your own yoga mat, water bottle, towel and a
Peanut Free bagged lunch for your child.

Dear fellow Hanoverians:
Despite the cold blustery winds and the wet fields, the Hanover
Woman’s Club, Jrs. 29th Annual Halloween Parade was held on Sunday,
October 30. The club would like to acknowledge and thank all those who
made it possible to have a successful event.
Thanks go out to Stop and Shop, Shaw’s, CVS, Walmart and Target for
their generous donations of candy for the treat bags. Thanks also to
the Hanover schools, the John Curtis Library and the Recreation
Department for taking in registrations. Publicity thanks go out to the
Hanover Mariner, Around Town on the Web, and the transfer station. The
Hanover Police and Fire departments are thanked for their help in some
of the preliminary planning of the event. Also deserving thanks is the
Center School custodian, Joe, who due to a late change of venue to the
Center School, stepped up to be most helpful in setting up whatever
was needed prior to and at the conclusion of the day.
A great big round of applause and thanks to the Hanover High School
Band and their director, Paul Ketchen, who led the children into the
school where they continued to entertain the children and parents with
several more musical numbers and routines. Dressed for the occasion in
Halloween attire, they were a wonderful tribute to our town and
schools.
And to all the children and parents who participated in the “Parade”,
we thank you for your continued support of our club activities. For
all in attendance who brought donations for the Hanover Emergency Food
Pantry, thank you for your generosity.

Dear fellow Hanoverians:
It’s that time of year again! Please join Hanover resident Libby Corbo
in celebrating Candy for a Cause’s 3rd year of shipping Halloween
candy overseas to local troops. This year the group will be collecting
your extra Halloween candy at the John Curtis Library and the Abbey
Knoll Photography Studio. (Libby is proud to note that Candy for a
Cause has outgrown her basement). The Abbey Knoll Photography Studio
is located at 283 Columbia Road, Route 53, (next to Sylvester Hardware
in the former Bygones space), and of course the library is in the
center of town. Hanover resident Peter Nixon of the AT&T Wireless
Hanover store has again generously offered to help with the sponsoring
of packages – for the past 2 years they have paid the entire shipping
bill! Candy collection will begin November 1st and continue through
November 8th. Libby and crew are also looking for cards to be included
in the packages, homemade or store-bought, and donations of baby wipes
for each box.

First Congregational Church Country Fair
Saturday, November 5th
Riley Hall – 9:30 a.m. to 2:00 p.m.

Tables include homemade goodies, plants, homemade jams, relishes and
maple syrup, their famous knitted wear table, crocheted top dish
towels, fine crafted wooden items, and a book table which includes
DVDs, tapes, movies, and jig saw puzzles.

The Holiday Table includes holiday decorations and household crafts,
as well as a variety of gift baskets that are great for personal use
or to give as gifts. The Jewelry and Accessories Table features used
jewelry, scarves, and gently used Vera Bradley bags!

This year there will be one-of-a-kind reusable shopping bags at the
environmentally friendly “Green” table. And don’t forget the
progressive silent auction table which this year features a beautiful
furnished doll house among other items.

All this plus the snack bar and the children’s room with games and

October 28, 2011

Effective Saturday October 29, 2011 at 7:00 am The Hanover Board of
Health is rescinding the order to close all recreational fields and
school property for outdoor activities from 6:00 pm to 7:00 am.

*Since we have experienced a “killing frost” this morning
(10/28/2011) with temperatures at or below 32 degrees and we are
forecasted for another one on Saturday (10/29/2011), the Board of
Health is rescinding their order from 10-24-2011 and will be effective
on Saturday 10/29/2011 at 7:00 am.*

*The Board of Health would like to thank everyone for cooperating with
the Board’s decision to close the fields. *

Dear fellow Hanoverians:

On November 6th at 2:00 p.m., St. Andrew’s will host a free organ,
piano concert and talk as part of their 200 years in Hanover.

The church is located at 17 Church Street. Parish musicians
representing multiple generations will play both organ and piano
pieces. Intertwined in the music will be stories and artifacts from
St. Andrew’s history. They will be collecting items for the food
pantry. Their goal is to collect a minimum of 200 items. Help St.
Andrew’s celebrate their 200th and help the food pantry at the same
time.

Dear fellow Hanoverians:
For the past 10 years, I have been buying delicious and fresh-picked
Florida oranges and grapefruit from various musical babysitters and
talented singing and jamming neighbors. The Hanover High School Music
Department has been sponsoring this fundraiser for their music
programs all these years, and I am now a bit shell-shocked to realize
that my own daughter is now old enough to gleefully participate in the
HHS Chorale – the freshman girls’ choir – and the fruit
fundraiser.
As a result, I have volunteered myself to be the “Around Town on the
Web” liaison to the fruit sale! If you have not already purchased
oranges or grapefruit or new-this-year tangelos from your local music
kid, please fill out the attached form and mail it to my attention:

All fruit will be delivered within 2 days of being picked. The
estimated delivery day this year is Thursday, December 8th. We will
not confirm the final delivery date until just before Thanksgiving.
The fruit will be coated with wax to seal in freshness. If the fruit
is kept in a cool place, it will last up to 45 days.
All orders must be paid for in full when the order is made. Make all
checks payable to /Hanover High School /and mail the check and the
attached order form to Cathy Harder-Bernier, c/o Music Department,
Hanover High School, 287 Cedar Street, or drop it off to my house if
that is easier for you. THE DEADLINE FOR ORDERS TO BE RECEIVED AT HHS

Join us Friday, October 28th for Hanover Parks and Recreation’s
Halloween Party!

Dear fellow Hanoverians:
Looking for an indoor activity for your child now that the weather is
getting cooler? The Friends of the John Curtis Free Library are happy
to announce two art workshops that will take place in the children’s
area of the library beginning in November:

KREATIVE KIDS Art Workshop (ages 3 – 5): Private art instructor and
Hanover resident Karen Cass will lead a six-week art course for 12
children, ages 3 – 5 years old. Classes will meet on Wednesdays
beginning November 2 from 11:00 a.m. – 12:00 p.m. as follows: 11/2,
11/9, 11/16, 11/30, 12/7 and 12/14. Karen will introduce basic
techniques in printmaking, collage, and drawing for preschool-aged
children. Together a variety of materials and subjects related to
nature and the season will be explored. Parents are invited to stay
and help.

CLAY CLASS: Faces and Figures (Grades 4 – 6): Sculptor/art educator
Pam Golden will lead a six-week art course for 12 students in grades 4
– 6. Classes will meet on Fridays beginning November 4 from 3:30 p.m.
– 4:30 p.m. as follows: 11/4, 11/11, 11/18, 12/2, 12/9, and 12/16. Pam
will teach a variety of clay hand-building techniques — and will
bring tools and clay for students to use. Students will create clay
masks, puppets, whistles and more.

These classes are fully funded by the Friends of the John Curtis Free
Library. Participants are asked only to pay a $10/person fee for
supplies. Space is limited and available on a first-come, first-serve
basis to any interested patron. Registration takes place at the
children’s circulation desk at the library and requires payment for
