Two blood drives in Hanover this month

Dear fellow Hanoverians:

There are two (count ’em) blood drives in Hanover this month, as follows:

South Shore YMCA Blood Drive

Hanover Branch

75 Mill Street

Monday, November 8, 2010

1:00 p.m. – 6:00 p.m.

For an appointment please call 1-800-RED CROSS or visit
www.redcrossblood.org or sign up at the
members desk.

Hanover Community Blood Drive

Masonic Hall

133 Broadway Street

Saturday, November 27, 2010

7:30 a.m. – 12:30 p.m.

All presenting donors at the 11/27 blood drive receive a Souvenir Stainless
Steel Water Bottle!

cid:image003.jpg@01CB76DF.AAC47F20

For an appointment please call 1-800-RED CROSS or visit
www.redcrossblood.org .

. Due to hectic holiday schedules, busy travel plans and inclement
weather in the Northeast, blood donations typically drop during the winter
months.

. Whether it’s serving Thanksgiving dinner at a local shelter or
donating food to the poor, many families, friends and co-workers have
developed holiday traditions over the years. Consider giving blood over the
Thanksgiving week and start a new tradition with your family and friends.

. Blood is an essential component for patient care in area hospitals,
and the only source of blood is a healthy, volunteer blood donor. Blood is
needed throughout the holiday season and during the cold winter months.

Halloween Candy for a Cause

Dear fellow Hanoverians:

This just in from ATOTW reader Libby Corbo…

“It’s that time of year again and Candy for a
Cause is back!   I was absolutely blown away by the donations and
generosity of all who responded to our candy collection.  Not only did we
get over 200 pounds of candy sent to troops, but we received additional
donations which allowed us to put a huge package of highly valued baby wipes in
each box.   AT&T Wireless Hanover Store (thanks
to another ATOTW reader Peter Nixon) paid for all 28 boxes to be shipped
(and many other Hanoverians stepped forward to offer shipping
contributions).   Most touching were the handmade, heartfelt cards
made by ATOTW readers with connections to St. Mary’s CCD classes and 5th grade
classes at Hanover Middle School.   I am excited to be collecting
candy again this year and Peter Nixon/AT&T has again stepped forward and
pledged to pay for 20 boxes to be shipped overseas!   WOW!”

Libby and friends will be collecting candy again at the John Curtis Library
(thanks to the Library staff who are willing to do this yet again) from
November 1 – 6th .   They also would love to have
residents nominate local soldiers to receive packages this year.  Please
contact Libby at 781-878-4059 or elizacorbo@hotmail.com to
do so.  If anyone would like to make a card, they would be honored to
include those in the packages as well.

Finally, people can stop by the library and look at some of the pictures from
last year’s collection (as well as one of the thank you notes that was
received).  This link also should allow people to access some pictures
from last year’s collection:  www.facebook.com/album.php?aid=3D45136&id=3D1384 856435&l=3D31424a394b

Plymouth County Charter Study Commission?

Dear fellow Hanoverians:

In addition to the three state-wide referendums that will
appear on your November 2nd ballots, please also be aware that there
is a fourth question that deserves your study.  It reads as follows:

“QUESTION 4

Shall a charter study commission
be created to study the present governmental structure of Plymouth County to
consider and make findings concerning the form of government and make
recommendations thereon?”

If the charter study commission is created, then your vote
to elect a charter study commissioner will matter.  Here in District 8, we
have two candidates on the ballot, hometown favorite Caitlin Cavanaugh or her
opponent Richard Flynn of Hanson.

I encourage you to do your homework on this one and make an
informed decision come November 2nd.
