I am delighted to announce that Governor Deval Patrick is coming
to Hanover this week!  Governor Patrick will highlight the components of
his transportation plan, including the proposed gas tax, at a forum to be held
this Tuesday, March 3rd at 12:30 p.m. in the meeting room of the
John Curtis Library.

All are welcome to attend.  This is the first time in
my memory that a sitting Governor will hold a public forum in Hanover –
don’t miss it!  Special thanks to our dear Representative Robert J.
Nyman for this breaking and important news.

Nomination papers for town-wide elected positions are now
available in the Town Clerk’s Office.  There are two important
deadlines associated with this process.  Nomination papers must be
obtained from the Clerk’s Office no later than 5:00 p.m. on Thursday,
March 19th.  Candidates are required to obtain legible
signatures from 50 registered Hanover voters on the nomination papers. 
Those signatures then need to be submitted to the Board of Registrar’s
Office for certification by Tuesday, March 24th at 5:00 p.m.  Candidates
are encouraged to get extra signatures just in case!

Dear fellow Hanoverians:

I don’t necessarily see “Around Town on the Web”
as a job search service, but every now and then a job opening pops up that
would provide a service to our community and that bears mentioning.  Jobs
for young people in the Parks and Rec program were one such recent example –
not only do they employ Hanover’s own, but those jobs then serve the one
of our most precious resources, Hanover’s children.

My most recent job opening find is at the South Shore YMCA
at Mill Pond right here in Hanover.  A year and a half ago the Y launched
the Partnership Program, which pairs people with disabilities with volunteers
who follow an exercise program designed by an in-house trainer.  The
program has filled a niche in the community that was sorely needed, and the disabled
of Hanover (and surrounding communities) have benefitted immensely.  It is
the Partnership Program Coordinator role that is now available.  The job

interested.  I previously joked about the Park and Rec jobs as being a
little economic stimulus program right here in Hanover.  This is so much

Dear fellow Hanoverians:

Pamela
Jolly will be leading a two-part conversation that is open to the public at
First Congregational Church in March on how to manage budgets faithfully. 
Pam has worked in financial management and investment strategies for nearly two
decades.  In 2005 her company, Torch, accepted a subcontract role with
FEMA.  Thus, Pamela worked distributing federal appropriations to communities
and municipalities in the Southern Gulf Coast, and served as a team leader for
the writing of the strategic plan for rebuilding New Orleans.  After
seeing the inequality in the rebuilding efforts, Pamela felt led to launch
OneTorch, a non-profit subsidiary of Torch which works with residents and grass
roots organizations on how to understand and overcome financial oppression.  The
organization is following the Book of Ezra as a model to assist the return of
residents to rebuild the undeserved communities of New Orleans with ownership
and equity.  Pam, a student at Boston University School of Theology, will
help participants look at their own strategies in these challenging
times to help them make the most of the resources they have.  Participants
will also explore ways to use their resources to improve our community and
our world.  Melding modern financial wisdom with ancient spiritual insight,
partakers will discover possibilities they didn’t know were within their
reach.   The program will be held on Monday, March 2nd
and Monday, March 16th at 7:30 p.m. at the First Congregational
Church of Hanover, UCC.  There is no fee for this program and refreshments

Dear fellow Hanoverians:

Hanoverade, the newest organization founded to assist
Hanover residents in need, is proud to announce its third monthly fundraiser!  This
Friday, February 27th, members of the Hanover community are invited
to attend a Family Bowling Night at the Boston Bowl (formerly the Hanover
Bowladrome) in an effort to “roll in” our donations for the Habitat
for Humanity.  Please plan to attend up to two hours of family bowling from 7:00
p.m. – 9:00 p.m. that night for the nominal admission price of $8.00 per
person and a voluntary donation of your choosing for the Hanover Habitat for
Humanity House.  Please anticipate making your contribution checks payable to
“Habitat for Humanity – Hanover House” and pay the bowling
alley (discounted charges!) separately. 

Admission includes two hours of bowling, shoes and glow
necklaces.  More importantly, you and your family can “socialize with a
purpose” and raise money for this month’s charity, the Hanover
Habitat for Humanity house.  Habitat is currently raising funds to construct a
home on the corner of Walnut and Main Streets in Hanover for a worthy family in
need.  With your help, another family can have a simple, decent place to call
home.

Hanoverade was founded in the fall of 2008 to address the
alarming and increasing economic realities for residents of Hanover.  Founder
Liz Collins and friends have raised over $2000 to date to benefit the Hanover
Food Pantry and the Hanover Visiting Nurse Association.  She hopes that the
donations will “roll in” for the Hanover Habitat for Humanity
House, too!  If you can’t make it that night, your donations are still
very appreciated and welcomed.  For more information or to make a contribution,

 The Town Manager Study Committee has worked long and hard to
prepare the draft document that will be discussed at next week’s public
hearing, scheduled to be held at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday, February 24th
at Town Hall.  Said draft is now available for review at http://www.hanover-ma.gov/pdf/forms/town-mgr/Draft-Proposal.pdf
.

 This document is an important milestone in the steps toward
a potential Town Manager form of government that will eventually voted upon by
Town Meeting.  Please take the time necessary to review it prior to the
hearing next week!

Dear fellow Hanoverians:

St. Andrew’s Episcopal Church
announces a newly formed support group for the recently unemployed or underemployed.
 Whether you have only held your previous job for a short time or are finding
yourself unemployed after many years of working, there are many areas to
address in looking for a new job or even a new career.  Beginning on Thursday,
March 5th at 9:00 a.m., St. Andrew’s will host weekly meetings of
the South Shore Employment Support Group.  Meetings
will be held in the parish hall located at 17 Church Street in Hanover from 9:00
– 10:30 a.m.  From learning how to deal with the stress of being out of work,
to practicing interviewing techniques, their goal
is to help provide a supportive environment for networking and learning new
skills.  In order to assure that they have adequate coffee and pastries, please
register on-line at ssesg@standrewshanover.org .
 Be sure to bring a resume and business cards if you have them to the meetings.
