Dinner on Wednesday?

Dear fellow Hanoverians:

What are you doing for dinner on Wednesday night?  The
Friends of Hanover Hockey invite you to join them at Papa Gino’s in
Hanover (across from the mall) for a Hanover Hockey program fundraiser.
Fully 20% of the proceeds raised that night will go directly to the Friends of
the Hanover Hockey.

The only catch is that you have to print out a copy of the
flyer found at: http://www.atotw.com/files/PapaGinosHanoverHockeyFundRaiser.pdf

and bring it with you on Wednesday.  The hockey program
won’t raise a cent without it.

See the flyer for details!

Around Town on the Web builds bridges

Dear fellow Hanoverians:

One of the terrific things about “Around Town on the
Web” (if I do say so myself!  Ha!) is that the list is completely
anonymous.  E-mails are sent with the recipients “undisclosed”
– thereby preventing “phishing” for e-mail addresses and
unwanted spam as a result.  But, every now and then, I add someone to the
list who deserves mention.  A couple of this month’s additions were
particularly remarkable, and they warrant your notice, as follows:

It is with great pleasure that I welcome the addition of
State Senator Thomas P. Kennedy to the list of recipients of “Around Town
on the Web”!  I am delighted that Senator Kennedy and members of his
staff will keep in touch with Hanover news via this outlet.  Further, I
need to also publicly thank Sen. Kennedy for his appearance at the “town
wide budget hearing” that was held this past weekend at Center
School.  I am just thrilled that we have elected a Senator who cares about
Hanover!  Thank you for your concern and noteworthy attendance at such a
crucial budget hearing, Senator.  We hope we see lots more of you in the
days and years to come.

Another “ATOTW” milestone was reached this week
with the request of the newest Hanover Mariner staff member, reporter Dana
Forsythe, to be added to this list.  Laura Anderson has been a long time
recipient…long before she started writing her Mariner column.  But I
am even more delighted that my little community service project to benefit a
few of my friends will now form a bridge to the printed word!  I hope to
continue the terrific collaborative relationship that I have had with the likes
of Laura Anderson, Cathy Harrington and Matt Gill.  Welcome to Hanover,
Dana, and stay in touch!

We will all be better for the attention and collaboration.
Hanover will only benefit from the building of these
“bridges”.  I am so pleased that “ATOTW” can be a
cog in the wheel of true community spirit.  Thanks for your continued
support!

NFL flag football at the Y

Dear fellow Hanoverians:

The South Shore YMCA filled a gap last fall when it
introduced flag football to its line-up of program offerings for children.  The
Bavis Arena in Rockland had previously hosted a flag football league that went
by the wayside after Bavis iced-over their one turf field and created another
hockey rink.  Lots of Hanover kids had a blast playing NFL flag football
at the Y last fall!

I am pleased to bring you the following information about
this spring’s flag football season at the Y, as follows:

Registration is now open for the South Shore
YMCA spring season of NFL flag football.  NFL FLAG is the premier youth
football league for boys and girls ages 9-14.  The program provides young
players a fun and exciting opportunity to engage in non-contact continuous
action while learning lessons in teamwork. There will be two age brackets: 9-11
& 12-14, and teams will include both boys & girls.  Teams consist
of 10 players.  Practices are once a week (days and times to be announced)
and players will play a six game schedule.  There will also be optional opportunities
for exhibition games against outside groups.  Regular season games will be
played on Friday or Saturday afternoons, and the season begins Saturday, March
14, 2009.  All regular season games & practices will be held at the
South Shore YMCA outdoor field.  Teams are coached by parent volunteers.

All
players will receive an NFL team identified jersey and NFL flag belt.  Cost
is $80 for full YMCA members and $110 for non-members.

To register, please go to http://www .atotw.com/files/PlayerRegistrationForm.doc
, fill out the form and mail or drop it and your payment off to the Y at
75 Mill Street in Hanover, attention: Linda Montoya.  Once your child is or
your children are registered with the Y, an additional NFL Flag registration
link will be sent to you.

For
more information, please contact league director Linda Montoya at
781-829-858 5, ext.
260, or lmontoya@ssymca.org .

No more license renewal reminders in Hanover

Dear fellow Hanoverians:

I got the greatest phone call today from a very long-time
Hanover resident who regularly receives and reads “Around Town on the Web”.
It was even better that she called me on the phone despite our fast-paced
sound-bite e-mail world; it was a pleasure to actually hear her sincere and
heartfelt concern for her neighbors and friends in Hanover.  She was very distressed
because of a change in a Registry of Motor Vehicles policy that will affect all
of us who live in Hanover (and Massachusetts).  Please consider this yet
another “Around Town on the Web community service message”, with
thanks to Peggy!

I did a little digging on-line after our phone call and
found the following from a RMV press release.  Did you know that –

“The
RMV will eliminate courtesy notices that are sent to customers for the
following services:

License and Mass ID renewal notices
Vehicle Inspection reminder
letters for vehicles that are overdue for inspection

Inspector license renewal notices
7D license renewal notices
Driver’s Education Certificates
Junior Operator Brochures
for parents

Change of address labels

Bottom line advice from Peggy – check your license
renewal date before it is too late, because the RMV is not going to remind you to
renew anymore.  For more information, go to http://www.mass.go v/rmv/alerts/economymsg.htm
.

There’s a lot I appreciate about Hanover.  Our
concern for each other ranks right up there.  Thanks Peggy, your service
to our town and people we both adore hereby continues…
