Have you heard about the plan to build a Habitat for
Humanity House right here in Hanover?  How awesome is that?! 
Here’s the latest scoop on the fundraising plans…

South Shore Habitat for Humanity
is sponsoring a benefit for the Hanover house with South Shore’s
legendary Little Paul, featuring the Fabulous Katy.  They will sing the
best dance tunes of the 50’s, 60’s and 70’s on Saturday,
January 31st from 8:00 p.m. – 12 midnight at the Knights of Columbus
Hall, 48 Schoosett St. (Rte 139) in Pembroke.

It’s sure to be a fun
night with tables of ten gathered around a large dance floor.  Tickets are
$25 per person and may be ordered by calling South Shore Habitat at
781-843-9080, ext 18, or by e-mailing Nick at communitydev@sshabitat.org .

Please help them raise the
$70,000 needed to break ground for the Hanover house at the corner of Walnut
and Main Streets.  Let’s make a dream come true for a deserving
family right here in Hanover.

Dear fellow Hanoverians:

The  Hanover Education
Foundation invites residents to attend an informational meeting at the Mill
Pond YMCA on Thursday, January 15, at 7:30 PM.  New members are
appreciated and always welcome; it’s a nice opportunity to meet new
people and become involved in making a meaningful contribution to your
child’s school experiences.  Agenda items include the 2008-2009
grant awards and the upcoming fundraiser “A Night at the Races”,
scheduled for March 21.  Proceeds from this event will help support future
grant initiatives which benefit all students in the Hanover Public
Schools.  For further information, contact Foundation President, Jill Joy,
at 781-826-3599.  We hope to see you there!

Scheduling tip for those with kids – get a babysitter
to come at 6:15 p.m. on the 15th.  Go to the HanoverAde event at
Joe’s until 7:30, and then hop down to the HFEE meeting at the Y. 
That’s what my friend Bill Cass calls a “two-fer”!

Dear fellow Hanoverians:

As the economy continues to struggle, Hanover residents are
making plans to join forces to help their neighbors in need.  HanoverAde,
a new group founded by local mom Liz Collins, proudly announces its second
“social gathering with a purpose”.  The event is set to be
held Thursday, January 15th, 2009 from 6:30 p.m. – 9:00 p.m.
at Joe’s American Bar and Grill in Hanover.  All proceeds
from the evening will be donated to the Hanover Food Pantry.

Struck by the job losses and home foreclosures of friends in
Hanover, Collins sent a few e-mails, made some connections, and HanoverAde was
born.  The group’s first event consisted of a Family Game Night that
raised money for the Hanover Visiting Nurses Association.  January’s
gathering at Joe’s will be “a way to help some of our friends who
are struggling right now,” says Collins.  She encourages people to
“just stop by, drop off a gift card, even $10 for Stop-n-Shop, Shaw’s, or
Hannaford’s".  Cash or checks made payable to the Hanover Food
Pantry will also be very much appreciated.

Coordinated Program Review, as well as her responding action
plan. 
This is an interactive meeting, and they look forward to your
participation. 
Together we can work to construct appropriate and excellent educational
services for all of our children.

Dear fellow Hanoverians:

The First Congregational Church of Hanover is continuing its
series on “Walking the Path to Wholeness, Healing and Holiness” in
conjunction with their indoor Labyrinth.  On January 10th, the Labyrinth
will be available from 9:00 a.m. until noon for reflection and walking meditation. 
At 10:00 a.m., they will offer a presentation by Bob Biggins of Magoun-Biggins Funeral
Home about the experience of grief and loss.  Bob is the former President
of the National Funeral Home Directors Association.  He and his staff are
trained in grief care at the time of death and in the months beyond.  He
will share in a dialogue around the rituals of saying goodbye and the long path
of finding your way in life without your loved one.  The program
and Labyrinth will be at the Parish Hall, which is located at 17 Silver Street
(across from the John Curtis Library).   For more information,

The Friends of the Stetson House will be hosting their Annual
Meeting and Covered Dish Supper on Saturday, January 10th at 6:00
p.m. at the Phoenix Lodge on Broadway in Four Corners.  This is a fun
gathering that is also open to new members of the community.   The
evening will be highlighted by an interesting “Hanover Then and Now”
program presented by acclaimed Hanover historian Barbara Barker-Kemp and Diane
Haigh after dinner and the meeting.

Please bring a salad, main dish or dessert, and please call
Barbara if you are able to help set up at (781) 826-6254.  If you are

More good
news in Hanover!  The
members of the Smith Family would like to express their heartfelt appreciation
for supporting their Fifth Annual Tree Lighting for the Juvenile Diabetes
Research Foundation (JDRF).  With your thoughtful and generous gifts, the
Smiths have raised $2,800 this year, giving them a total of approximately
$15,000 raised over the past 5 years.  100% of the donations are
contributed to the JDRF to help further the mission to find a cure for Type 1
juvenile diabetes and its complications through the support of research. 
With everyone’s support, we are confident that a cure is in the near
future!
