Dear fellow Hanoverians:

I am delighted to report the exciting 7 – 0 win for Hanover High School’s football team over Rockland last Friday night!  Further, with a North Quincy loss to Middleboro, the football Indians nailed down first place in the Fisher Division of the Patriot League thanks to their earlier-in-the-season victory over Middleboro.  Congratulations!

Hanover takes on Patriot League Keenan Division champion Duxbury this coming Saturday, November 15th to determine the Patriot League overall winner.  Game time is 5:00 p.m. at Whitman-Hanson High School.

Show your school spirit and cheer on Hanover football’s continued success on the gridiron this weekend!

Dear fellow Hanoverians:

Kick off the holiday season with a “Home for the Holidays” concert at St. Andrew’s Episcopal Church, featuring the United Brass ensemble.  Tickets are $10 for adults, $5 for seniors and $3 for children under 12.  The concert will be held at St. Andrew’s, 17 Church Street, on November 30 at 3:00 p.m.  Please call (781) 826-2062 for tickets.  Come and enjoy festive holiday music in a beautiful setting!

Dear fellow Hanoverians:

I think I might have to hire Geoff Hoffman to be my “boots on the ground” when it comes to writing up and sending me a terrific summary of Hanover soccer news!  Thanks, Geoff for the following updates, and congrats to Hanover’s soccer teams!  I was “next door” at the Middle School watching my HYAA kids kick the ball around and could hear the roar of the high school crowd all afternoon last Saturday!

Great crowds at both the Hanover girls and boys MIAA soccer tournament games helped provide good news.
Girls went up 3-0 vs. Hopkinton, only to fall behind 3-4 with approx 7 minutes left. Nevertheless, the girls fought back with 2 goals in those last 7 minutes to win 5-4.  They travel to Oliver Ames TODAY, Tuesday 11/11, with a  game time of 12:00 noon.  The only downer was Ann Ward broke her arm halfway thru the 2nd half.  Link:  http://miaa.statebrackets.com/tmenu.cfm?tid=1069 . 
The boys also went up 3-0 and held on for a 3-1 win vs. Sacred Heart.  Colin Shea had a monster game with a couple of assists and a goal. More good news: the #1 seed in our bracket, Harwich lost.  Therefore, Hanover will host the 2nd round game vs. Norton at Hanover High School TODAY at 4:00 p.m., Tuesday, 11/11.  Link:  http://miaa.statebrackets.com/tmenu.cfm?tid=1074 .
A lot of people have TODAY (Tuesday) off – it would be great to get another huge crowd to watch both teams play!

Dear fellow Hanoverians:

 It would be difficult, I would think, to not know at least one kid in Hanover who is playing in or cheering at a youth football Super Bowl game this weekend.  There are four, count ‘em, four HYAA football teams headed for that final championship game at their level.  Special thanks to Patty Cockey and Kevin McLeod for keeping me in the loop on this great news!

On this Sunday, November 9th, Hanover’s own will be playing and cheering at two games at home in Hanover.  The Midgets (8th graders) at 12:30 p.m. will play Hingham, and the Pee Wees (6th graders) at 2:00 p.m. will play against Dennis/Yarmouth.

Our two away teams will be playing and cheering in the Super Bowls in Middleboro on Sunday also.  Our undefeated Mites (3rd graders) team will be playing Scituate at 11:00 a.m., and our undefeated Pee Wees (5th graders) team will be playing at 2:00 p.m.

If you have not ever participated in one of these walks, don’t miss your chance to do so this year!  It’s a great take, as well as a terrific way to walk off the extra helping of pie you had at the Thanksgiving dinner table.  Special thanks to the NSRWA for sending along this info, as well as to Hanover’s own Doug Thomson for leading the way on the walk!

The North & South Rivers Watershed Association Sponsors a Thanksgiving Weekend Walk and Kid’s Nature Walk at Factory Pond, Sunday, November 30th at 1 p.m.

Enjoy the magnificent views of Factory Pond along the Indian Head River, a tributary to the North River.  The 8.5 mile Hanover Greenway now includes a one mile loop trail around the pond with three bridge crossings.  This conservation area, including the two islands within the pond, is the premier bird habitat in Hanover and home to many other animals as well.  Hanover resident Doug Thomson will lead the walk around the full one mile loop from the King Street entrance just south of Forge Pond.  This is a great walk for the whole family.  Pre-registration is not required.  Suggested donation is $5 per adult.

New this year, the NSRWA will sponsor a Nature Hunt so kids can find answers to clues as they walk the trail with their parents.  A list of clues can be downloaded from the Kid’s Corner of the NSRWA website (www.nsrwa.org)  Just click on the turkey.
Directions:  The entrance to the walk is on King Street, just south of Forge Pond.  From Hanover Center (Town Hall), take Route 139 west, left on Circuit Street, left on School Street, left on King Street.  Follow King Street for less than a quarter mile, on the left.  Parking is on both sides of the road.  Look for the NSRWA sign.

HANOVER YOUTH HOCKEY COACHES VERSUS BOSTON BRUINS ALUMNI GAME
Saturday, November 15th at 5:40 p.m. at the BOG Ice Rink in Kingston

Looking for something fun and entertaining to do with your kids next weekend?    Come watch your favorite Hanover Youth Hockey coaches take on the Boston Bruins’ finest alumni, including Rick Middleton, Terry O’Reilly, and Hanover’s own Tim Sweeney.  The referee for the evening will be the “World Famous Referee Clown”.  Tending goal for Hanover will be film director and producer Bobby Farrelly (There’s Something About Mary).

Dear fellow Hanoverians:

I am delighted to bring you the following news, along with a request for your indulgence and patience!

Long-time recipients of “Around Town on the Web” know that hundreds of Hanover residents receive my e-mails every day, and that I have occasionally tangled with Comcast’s anti-spamming measures as a result.  Over the years I have developed various “fixes” to jump over Comcast’s hurdles while still being able to send out the information that you love to have.  Suffice it to say, however, that the fixes have at the very least become time consuming for me!  I’m not an IT person, though, so I have muddled through.

Until this week, that is.  Here’s the best part of this story:  A Hanover resident by the name of Michael Van Lare, who is simply a friend of a friend and a fellow Hanoverian…has offered his considerable expertise and assistance to help me to upgrade “ATOTW” to meet the growing demands of our neighbors and friends.  He is doing so simply out of the spirit of community that is generated right here on “ATOTW”.  He and I have never met; we’ve just talked on the phone and by e-mail. 

So, this e-mail is a test.  We are testing the limits of this new e-mail account in hopes that future delivery to you will be seamless.  In the future, we may even have an automated way for people to sign up to be a part of “ATOTW”, and perhaps also an “ATOTW” website where old postings can be added and searched.
