New England Ringers come to Hanover

Dear fellow Hanoverians:

First Congregational Church of Hanover (FCCH) presents the New England
Ringers community handbell ensemble in a performance of “Christmas Past
and Presents,” on Sunday, December 4, 3:00 p.m., at the church’s
sanctuary at 547 Hanover Street, Hanover. A complimentary fellowship
reception immediately follows, offering coffee, cider and sweets. Admission
is free, donations supporting New England Ringers are gratefully accepted.
FCCH is fully accessible, with parking available in adjacent parking lots.

In a highlight of the holiday season, New England Ringers, a premier
community handbell ensemble, performs a program of holiday-themed music.
This 14-ringer choir performs on six octaves of English handbells, six and
one-half octaves of Choirchimes, as well as additional assorted
instruments. The performing artists helm from Vermont, Connecticut,
Massachusetts, Rhode Island, and New Hampshire for biweekly rehearsals in
Oxford.

For nearly 35 years, New England Ringers has presented concerts throughout
New England and the northeast, yielding several recordings, and has
participated in numerous handbell festivals, workshops, seminars, and other
events. Other concerts this season include performances in Sandwich,
Attleboro, and Oxford, as well as Warwick, RI.

Official State Election results for the Town of Hanover

Dear fellow Hanoverians:

I am delighted to report that the Town of Hanover’s final results from
the November 8, 2022 State Election have been certified and sent to the
Secretary of the Commonwealth’s Office as of this afternoon. These
results differ slightly from the unofficial results that you have already
received due to hand counted ballots, overseas ballots, and provisional
ballots that were recently vetted and tallied. Please see the attached.

In the meantime, please join the Town Clerk’s Office in thanking all of the
town departments that assisted in the effort to conduct this election –
notably the Hanover DPW/Facilities/Highway, Police, Fire, Schools, Finance,
CDMI, IT, Community Services and Town Manager’s Departments. An election
is truly a town-wide effort, and ALL of their contributions are
appreciated.

Rental assistance in Hanover

Dear fellow Hanoverians:

Those of you who know me know that I try really hard to keep my work and
personal lives separate. “Around Town on the Web” has always been a
voluntary labor of love, started in 2004, and long before I became your
Town Clerk in 2013. But there are days and times when my worlds collide
for the greater good, and today was one of those days. Hence, this
e-blast.

A woman very shyly came to my work counter this afternoon. When I realized
she was there, I of course asked her how I could help her. My assistant
was out today, and there was no one else around, but she nevertheless said,
“could you come closer?”. We’ve been crazy busy in my office over the past
few months due to the election, so it was a rare moment with a singular
resident for me. I gladly stepped forward. As it turns out, she had heard
a rumor about a new rental assistance program that the town had just
started, and she wanted more information, but she didn’t want anyone to
know that she was asking. I vaguely remembered reading something in the
midst of running the election, but I knew next to nothing, other than it
sounded familiar. She clearly wanted our conversation to stay
confidential, so I dug in to see what I could find.

A little bit of digging on the Town’s website and a discussion with the
Town Manager and his assistant later, and I am delighted to share the
following information with ATOTW readers! Long before working for the
Town, I worked for the Pine Street Inn in Boston, and this program sounds a
little like the rental assistance programs we used to offer our guests. I
am thrilled that the members of the Affordable Housing Trust, Town Finance
Director, Community Services Director and Town Manager have recognized that
the extraordinary cost of housing in Hanover is not just a big city
problem.

Please share this information with your neighbors and friends: go to

page. And I am always happy to print out an application or be a cog in the
wheel to help shy people at my counter. Hopefully this e-blast helps too.
