Dear fellow Hanoverians:

Hanover’s 2nd Annual Jacket Drive will be held Sunday, September 25 from
1:00 p.m. – 3:00 p.m. at Sylvester School.

The cold weather will soon be here, and not everyone has warm jackets and
coats. To help those in need, the Hanover Democratic Town Committee (HDTC)
will be collecting new and gently used jackets. The group welcomes jackets
for all ages, sizes, and gender.

The coats and jackets will go to clients at the Hanover Food Pantry.

“Everything costs more this year, and a lot of people are struggling to
make ends meet. For those who can contribute — a warm jacket or two will
be greatly appreciated by our neighbors,” said Michelle Davidson,
Outreach Coordinator for the committee.

Jackets can be dropped off at Sylvester School (495 Hanover Street,
Hanover) between 1:00 p.m. and 3:00 p.m.

Dear fellow Hanoverians:

A new series of programs is coming to Hanover! Compassionate Conversations
will be co-led by Tammy Murray, LCSW and Hanover Unity. Each month with
have a different topic. There will be a speaker and/or video/slideshow to
help guide thoughtful and meaningful dialog about varying topics. The
programs will be held the 3rd Wednesday of the month at 6:30 p.m. at the
Council on Aging, 665 Center Street in Hanover. There will be babysitting
available free of charge. Please come! Hanover Unity Council is looking
for future topics too. If you have an idea or a specialty that you would
like to suggest, please reach out to hanoverunitycouncil@gmail.com .

This upcoming Wednesday, September 21st at 6:30 p.m. will be hosted by
Hanover Pride at the COA. There will be discussions about terminology, and
how to ask someone their pronouns and other questions that come up. This is
a safe space, and all are welcome to attend, listen and learn. If you have
a LGBTQ+ loved one or friend in your life, or want to learn more about
being an ally, come join this Compassionate Conversation!

Dear fellow Hanoverians:

As part of the Tax Incentive Financing (TIF) program that the Town of
Hanover’s Town Meeting authorized with the (former) Hanover Mall in 2017,
the (now) Hanover Crossing folks are making extra efforts to hire Hanover
residents! Around Town on the Web (ATOTW) is delighted to support their
efforts with the following e-blast; please read on and consider attending.

The Hanover Crossing Project is fully under construction and some new
retailers will be opening over the next few months. Since they do not
currently have a safe space to conduct interviews, they have partnered with
Cardinal Cushing Centers and they will be graciously hosting the first
HANOVER CROSSING JOB FAIR at the Cushing Marketplace Café at 405
Washington Street in Hanover.

The fair will be held on Wednesday, September 21st from 4:00 p.m. – 7:00
p.m. Meet retail representatives from Macy’s, NAI Showcase Cinema De
Lux, Old Navy, Trader Joes, Panera Bread, Cardinal Cushing Centers, 110
Grill, Ryan Family Amusements, Market Basket and PETCO. Also please note
that NAI Showcase Cinema currently has a temporary hiring office space in
the former OfficeMax location next to PETCO/Mattress Firm.

Not only will Hanover Crossing be a great place to shop, dine and unwind,
but also a great place to work!

This Sunday is the Phoenix Lodge Public Breakfast. The Lodge is located at
133 Broadway, at the corner of Broadway and Washington Street (Hanover Four
Corners).

some folks say is the “best breakfast anywhere”.

All of the proceeds from the breakfasts help to support their food pantry
and scholarship programs. Phoenix Lodge regularly donates to the Hanover,
Pembroke, Norwell and Rockland food pantries. They also provide two
scholarships each year to South Shore Regional Vocational Technical High
School.

Henry The Juggler at John Curtis Library
Saturday, September 10, 11:00 a.m. – 12:00 p.m.

Henry The Juggler presents an amazing and funny show with lots of audience
participation. He juggles balls, clubs, rings, and other miscellaneous
items. Henry speaks little but says a great deal through his expressions
and body language. The performance is for families with children of all
ages.
This event is rescheduled from the original date of July 11. Families that
were registered for that date do not need to re-register, please just
attend.

St. Mary of the Portiuncula and Mary Queen of Peace Secular Franciscan
Fraternities extend an invitation to share an hour of Prayer at the
Portiuncula Chapel, Tuesday, September 13, 2022, 7:00 p.m. – 8:00 p.m., to
celebrate the Fifth Apparition of Our Lady of Fatima. Hear a talk by Fr.
Mike McNamara on the Fifth Apparition followed by a Rosary procession on
the grounds of the Portiuncula Chapel (weather permitting).

Come together to offer thanks and praise to Our Lady, “Queen of the
Angels;” bring a message of hope and peace to those in need of the Lord’s
mercy through this special devotion. As Our Lady promised us at Fatima,
“I will never forsake you, I will not abandon you. My Immaculate Heart
will always be your refuge, your consolation, and the way that will lead
you to God.”

Prayer intentions for September are for sanctity of Life from beginning to
end, for the people of Ukraine, for the Missions of the World, and for the
personal needs and intentions of all in attendance.

Dear fellow Hanoverians:

Once or twice a decade, Hanover wins the scheduling jackpot and the
September State Primary gets re-scheduled for the first day of school that
had been decided months prior. :) There’s no way around it, but the team
that will be waiting at Hanover High School tomorrow/Tuesday September 5th
will be ready for you – whether you’re a newly registered voter, long-time
resident and regular voter, graduating senior driving to school for the
first time, or a new freshman student.

Voters will be directed down Judy Schneider Way (formerly known as the
Cedar School driveway), and to park in the back, immediately behind the
building near the football field all day long. There will be plenty of
parking – keep driving all the way down that parking lot so that you are
near the concession stand/locker room area to find spaces. There will be
extra temporary handicapped spaces also.

Students and parents dropping off or picking up students will be directed
down the main/front driveway, again, all day long. Students will park in
the lot on the right.

Polls open at 7:00 a.m., and there is typically a line at that hour. The
heaviest congestion times for all folks arriving at Hanover High School
will be from about 7:30 a.m. – 8:00 a.m. and again from about 2:15 p.m. –
2:45 p.m. Please be prepared for traffic and delays during that time.
Thanks in advance for your patience! Polls close at 8:00 p.m.

Voters will enter from the back door facing the football field and be
directed to the gym door at the back of the gym near the fitness center
entrance. Yes, this is different from the COVID queuing protocols! You
will not enter the cafeteria/main part of the building at all. If you need
to use a rest room while you are there, the locker room bathrooms will be
open to you until about 2:30-3:00 p.m. You will also exit out of the back
of the gym and walk along that back/locker room hallway to get back to your
car. After about 2:45 p.m., the bulk of the students will have left the
building and the restrooms near the trophy case in the cafeteria will
become the public bathrooms as needed; the locker rooms will be turned over
to the student athletes.

One final note about Tuesday’s weather – wet raincoats and umbrellas don’t
mix well with paper ballots. Please take special care to keep anything wet
away from your ballot!

Hanover’s amazing team of election workers, Hanover Police and Fire,
Facilities and DPW/Highway staff appreciates the graciousness and
flexibility of the Hanover school department staff, teachers and coaches
for allowing Hanover’s voters to share space with them tomorrow (as I write
this)/Tuesday. See you all there!

Apply for community arts grants through the Hanover Cultural Council!
Proposals for arts, humanities, and science programs are due October 17.

Have you ever wondered what happens with the funds raised at Hanover Day?
Money from our annual celebration, plus Hanover’s share of state cultural
funds, is used to support arts, science, and humanities projects throughout
the year.

Between September 1 and October 17, 2022, the Hanover Cultural Council will
accept applications from organizations, schools, and individuals for grants
to fund cultural activities in Hanover. These grants can support a variety
of arts, science, and humanities projects, including exhibits, festivals,
field trips, short-term artist residencies or performances in schools,
workshops, and lectures.

This year’s allocation to Hanover from the Massachusetts Cultural Council
(MCC) is $8,100, and additional funds are available thanks to the past
successes of Hanover Day. The Council will meet later this fall to review
the applications and award the grants.

A webinar will be held on September 13 at 6:00 p.m. to review the

Past events have included the Summer Concert Series by the Parks and
Recreation Department, the Drama Club programs at South Shore Vo-Tech,
funding for the Hanover Performing Arts Company, painting workshops, Museum
of Science Outreach program at Cedar Elementary School, several museum
passes and children’s programs at the John Curtis Library, and
sponsorships of programs for the Walnut Hill Garden Club, South Shore
Natural Science Center, Hanover senior center, and many others.

The Hanover Cultural Council is part of a network of 329 Local Cultural
Councils serving all 351 cities and towns in the Commonwealth. The state
legislature provides an annual appropriation to the MCC, a state agency,
which then allocates funds to each community. Local councils are allowed to
raise additional money through events like Hanover Day.
