Town-wide Senior Car Parade

Dear fellow Hanoverians:

This just in from a Hanover High parent…with an assist from the good
folks at HHS!

“Last year, we recognized that some senior events were “lost” to the
pandemic; with recognition and respect, we held a “Town-Wide Senior Car
Parade”. We’ll do the same this year. The parade is scheduled for
next Thursday, May 20th, and will depart promptly at 6:30 pm from Hanover
High School. Please see the attached for further details!”

Let’s get out there and rally around the Hanover senior students who had to
Zoom into their classrooms for over a year!

3rd Annual Hanover Spring Cleaning

Dear fellow Hanoverians:

Saturday June 5th will be the 3rd Annual Hanover Spring Cleaning!

The Butler Family is excited to keep this tradition going strong. In 2020,
they doubled the number of participants over 2019, and they hope to double
it again this year. We have a beautiful town and it’s amazing to see us
all come together to help it stay that way.

To ensure safety is the top priority, participants will continue to clean
at a safe distance. There won’t be a registration desk and it is asked
that you provide your own supplies.

The Butlers still plan to have a registration site to understand how many
people are participating. Please register using the link below:

Hanover Town Meeting Approves CPA Funding for Sylvester Field!

Dear fellow Hanoverians:

On Tuesday, May 4th, at the Hanover Annual Town Meeting, the residents of
Hanover unanimously voted to approve the use of $250,000 in Community
Preservation Act (CPA) funds to help save Sylvester Field. Kudos to Open
Space Committee co-chair Hal Thomas for his outstanding presentation of the
project to Town Meeting. Thanks also to Hanover Historical Commission
Chair Peter Johnson for his informative presentation evoking the Field’s
rich history.

The Town of Hanover, as project partner, will be purchasing the
Conservation Restriction (“CR”) on the Field with the CPA funds. The
Town-held CR over the Field will allow for a range of passive recreational
activities such as hiking and cross-country skiing and will include
provisions allowing for a trailhead parking area. The CR will also allow
for habitat management, improvement, and restoration, as well as the
maintenance of the stone wall that is such a prominent feature of its road
frontage which will be carried out by Wildlands Trust.

Wildlands Trust, the regional land trust for southeastern Massachusetts,
has been aggressively fundraising in the community, headed up by a
dedicated team of residents to preserve the Field, one of Hanover’s most
beloved and iconic landscapes.

Thank you to all those community donors and the Hanover Capital Campaign
Committee who have supported the project thus far. The Hanover Capital
Campaign Committee, doing a great job leading the local fundraising with
Wildlands Trust, consists of Chairman Caleb Estabrooks, Peter Finnegan,
Marilyn Hartney, Dan Jones, Maura Longueil, Anne and Tim Porter, Hal
Thomas, Peter and Paula Tyack, Sandra Moll, Cindy Newton, Jane Estabrooks,
and Julia Traggorth.

There’s still an opportunity for new donors to donate to help raise the
last $60,000 needed to meet the community fundraising target of $150,000.
A substantial match opportunity for gifts: 2 to 1 for gifts $500 and under
and 1 to 1 for gifts from $5,000 to $501 has been offered by a generous
anonymous donor. Please visit www.wildlandstrust.org to contribute to this
effort.

“We have a one-time opportunity to preserve the field,” said Karen
Grey, Wildlands Trust President. “This is our first fundraising effort
in Hanover, and we couldn’t imagine a more compelling project to become
involved with,” said Grey. “We fully appreciate how important this
property is to the entire Hanover community.”

###
Organizational Information:
Wildlands Trust is a nonprofit land conservation organization founded in
1973 to preserve Southeastern Massachusetts’ natural heritage. Based in
Plymouth but active in four counties across the region, the Trust protects
over 9,000 acres in 36 communities, including 90 acres in Hanover. To
learn more about the Trust’s work, visit www.wildlandstrust.org , or

Matthew Westfield Blood Drive

Dear fellow Hanoverians:

Please join residents of Hanover at the MGH Matthew Westfield Blood Drive.
It will be held next Wednesday, May 12th in the parking lot of the Town
Hall. This is the 34th year that MGH has traveled to Hanover in Matthew’s
memory. The blood drive began at the Sylvester School in 1987. Peggy
Westfield, retired Hanover teacher, was teaching at Sylvester that year.
The blood drive followed Peggy to Cedar School when she was transferred
there. When she became the reading specialist and then 5th grade teacher at
Hanover Middle School, the bloodmobile traveled with her. Last year during
our difficult pandemic, the bloodmobile relocated to the Town Hall parking
lot. The response was so great that MGH brought in two bloodmobiles to
socially distance and accommodate the donors. Please consider giving, if
you are able.

For more information including the link to sign up, please see the attached
flyer.

Town Meeting concludes; on to the Town Election

Dear fellow Hanoverians:

Hanover’s Annual Town Meeting wrapped up its business this evening,
Tuesday, May 4th at Hanover High School. After almost an hour’s discussion
regarding the lack of timely fire and EMS response to North Hanover, and
after 30 years of review of this concern, Hanover voters finally chose to
support the initial design phase of a new fire sub-station on Webster
Street. Additionally, we supported the first phase of a Rail Trail
project, and $250,000 toward the Wildlands Trust preservation of Sylvester
field in the Four Corners area.

We move on to the Annual Town Election on Saturday, May 8th from 8:00 a.m.
– 6:00 p.m. at Hanover High School. There are three contested races on the
ballot for School Committee, Board of Health and Board of Selectmen. Don’t
miss out on your chance to weigh in! See you there!

How to cast your ballot in the Annual Town Election

Dear fellow Hanoverians:

Hanover Annual Town Elections will be held at Hanover High School,
Saturday, May 8, 2021.

Due to the ongoing pandemic, the Massachusetts Legislature extended some of
the mandated voting provisions from 2020 into the 2021 Spring Election
season. Hanover residents who are taking precautions due to COVID-19 are
encouraged to vote by mail and avoid in-person contact on Election Day.
This action will help to protect the health of all voters as well as the
health of election staff. Regardless of COVID-19, all residents will be
able to vote using one of four methods in the May Annual Town Election as
follows:

1. Vote by Mail – applications for a Vote by Mail ballot must be received
in the office of the Town Clerk before 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday, May 4.
Ballots are currently available to be mailed. Voters may track the status
of their vote-by-mail ballot at
http://atotw.com/maillist/lt.php?tid=xDTs2r0WBOq+cjcdTcMKAawLwtEsl7upkQ/LY1cOt3hoqLt7nDPYRqoN783ZLADJ

2. Vote Absentee In-person – applications for an in-person ballot must be
received in the office of the Town Clerk before 12 noon on Friday, May 7.
Expect long lines, and plan to social distance and wear a mask. Voters may
track the status of their mail-in absentee or in-person absentee ballot at
http://atotw.com/maillist/lt.php?tid=xDTs2r0WBOq+cjcdTcMKAawLwtEsl7upkQ/LY1cOt3hoqLt7nDPYRqoN783ZLADJ

3. Vote by Emergency Absentee Ballot – allowable for anyone instructed to
self-quarantine beginning after 12 noon on Saturday, May 1.

4. Vote on Election Day – polls will be open at Hanover High School, 287
Cedar Street, from 8:00 a.m. – 6:00 p.m.

Please download the Vote by Mail Application at
http://atotw.com/maillist/lt.php?tid=KZjbRZoeGru5/AFv2V6k7awLwtEsl0upkQ/LY1cOt3hoqLt7nDOoRqoN783ZLADJ
and mail it to the Town Clerk’s Office, 550 Hanover Street, Hanover, MA
02339, email it to the Town Clerk’s Office, or drop it in the front door
mail slot of Town Hall. Applications can also be picked up outside the
Town Clerk’s Office during Town Hall business hours. The application MUST
include your signature; typed requests or e-mails requesting early ballots
without your signature cannot be accepted. After we confirm that you are a
registered voter in Hanover, we will process your request and your ballot
will be mailed to you. Instructions will be enclosed. Ballots may be
returned either by mail or by depositing them in the new secure drop box in
front of Town Hall. Ballots must be returned by the close of polls on
Election Day.
