Pride and democracy – Vote on 11/3/2020

Dear fellow Hanoverians:

I doubt I could be more proud of you. Fully 52% of registered voters have
voted early in-person or by mail…ALREADY….in the middle of a pandemic.
There’s one more day to vote in person, this Tuesday, November 3rd, in
person, at the State Election. Election Day will be held at Hanover High
School, 287 Cedar Street. All four precincts vote in this one location.
Wear a mask, plan to social distance and wait in line. Polls are open from
7:00 a.m. – 8:00 p.m. Those of you who have waited for the big day…this
is it! Can we break our current record of 86% turnout?!? I’ll be “bustin’
my buttons” if so!

Have a Vote by Mail ballot and haven’t turned it in yet? Don’t worry, you
are not alone (there are 600 of you) and not out of luck. Drop it off to
the Town of Hanover ballot drop box, located in front of Hanover Town Hall,
by 8:00 p.m. on Tuesday 11/3 and your ballot will be counted. Or, although
this is not recommended at this point, get it snail-mail postmarked by 11/3
and received in the Town Clerk’s Office by 11/6, and it will be counted.

Sent in your Vote by Mail ballot and want to make sure it will be counted?
Go to www.trackmyballotma.com and follow the directions to see where your
ballot is and/or if it has been “accepted”. That’s the magic word that
means “yes, my vote will be counted on Tuesday”. Despite my reluctance to
vote early, I broke down and did so in-person on Thursday and just checked
– I’ve been accepted. How about you?

The Town Clerk’s Office will close at noon on Monday, November 2nd to
prepare for the election. The office will be closed for regular business
on Tuesday, but the phones will be answered by a skeleton crew for
election-related questions and drop-box pick-up!

This is it, Hanover! Democracy wins only if you show up – one way or the
other. Let’s be proud of us…together, in the middle of a pandemic, no
less!

Box Tops for Education – Final Clip Collection

Dear fellow Hanoverians:

The Hanover PTA will be doing a final collection of any clipped Box Tops
you may have. As many know, the Box Tops for Education program has gone
“virtual”, but the Hanover PTA knows many people still have piles of
clipped Box Tops to turn in. Each one is worth $.10 and they would love to
gather them and raise a little money for Hanover Public Schools.

The HPTA will be collecting Box Tops (please sort out any expired) outside
the children’s entrance of the John Curtis Free Library over the next week.
You will see a large blue collection bin setup from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.
through Friday October 30th.

Please place your Box Tops in an envelope or baggie and leave them in the
collection bin.

If you have questions, please reach out to hanoverptaboard@gmail.com.

Thank you for your support!

Story Walk and Pumpkin Display at John Curtis Library

Dear fellow Hanoverians:

Story Walk and Pumpkin Display at John Curtis Library

Starting Friday, October 23, families are invited to enjoy a fall-themed
Story Walk on the grounds between the library and the Stetson House. Story
Walk is a fun educational activity that places the pages from a
children’s picture book along an outdoor walking route. The book for
this walk is The Little Old Lady Who Was Not Afraid Of Anything by Linda
Williams. The self-guided walk may be taken any time during daylight hours
and will be up for two weeks.

The library will also be hosting a pumpkin decorating and display project
as part of its celebration of Halloween and the fall season. Children and
families are asked to decorate pumpkins and drop them off at the library
during the week leading up to Halloween. On Friday, October 23, a limited
number of free pumpkins will be available on the picnic table outside the
children’s room; one pumpkin per family, please (people are also welcome
to supply their own pumpkins).

Decorated pumpkins will be displayed around the garden area outside the
children’s room through Friday, October 30. Participants may pick up
their pumpkins to take home on Halloween Day, Saturday.

For more information, please call 781-826-2972, extension 4, or email
lcampbell@ocln.org.

Halloween 2020 Safety Tips and Guidelines

Dear fellow Hanoverians:

Consistent with the Halloween activity guidance released by the Centers for
Disease Control and Prevention and the Massachusetts Department of Health,
some things to keep in mind in celebrating Halloween this year include:

• Enjoy Halloween outside rather than attending indoor events
• Place candy on a platter instead of a bowl
• Instead of traditional trick or treating, opt for one-way
trick-or-treating, with treats placed outside of the home for
trick-or-treaters as a “grab and go” while keeping distance from others
• Consider leaving hand sanitizer by any treats left out for
trick-or-treaters to use
• Wear a face mask or face covering. For more information on face masks
and face coverings, please go to the state’s Mask Up MA webpage.
o A costume mask is not a substitute for a face mask or face covering. To
protect yourself and others, ensure you are wearing a protective face mask
or covering instead of or in addition to a costume mask.
• Observe good hand hygiene, including handwashing and use of
alcohol-based sanitizers with at least 60% alcohol. Carry hand sanitizer
and use it often, especially after coming into contact with frequently
touched surfaces and before eating candy.
• Refrain from touching your face
• Decorate your yard for others to enjoy from their car or while on a
socially-distanced walk
• Hold virtual costume contests or pumpkin carving events
• Celebrate with members of your household with a Halloween-themed meal,
Halloween movie night, or by preparing a Halloween scavenger hunt
• Maintain social distancing of at least 6 feet of physical distance from
all other participants who are not members of the same household

What to Avoid:
• Attending crowded costume parties held indoors, or any gatherings that
exceed indoor or outdoor gathering limits;
• Going to an indoor haunted house where people may be crowded together
and screaming; and
• Going on hayrides or tractor rides with people who are not in your
household.
• Indoor haunted houses; and
• Hayrides or tractor rides with people who are not in your household.

Stay home and refrain from Halloween activities, including handing out
Halloween treats, if:
o you feel unwell;
o you have tested positive for COVID-19;
o you have been exposed to someone with COVID-19; or
o you have traveled to or from a state that is not classified as lower risk
within the last 14 days. For more information on lower-risk states, please
see the state’s COVID-19 Travel Order webpage.

Residents and communities should follow safe and healthy tips to
participate in Halloween activities that may limit the risk of exposure to
COVID-19. As a reminder, any Halloween activities are subject to the
current state gathering size limits as well as applicable sector-specific
workplace safety standards. For more information, please contact
health@hanover-ma.gov .
