Hanover Food Pantry doing a booming business and needs you

Dear fellow Hanoverians:

I have been the recipient of lots of inquiries about the Hanover Food
Pantry recently, and decided it was time for another “Around Town on the
Web” supportive e-blast. I love that so many of us feel so lucky and
privileged enough to want to help our neighbors, because unfortunately, the
Food Pantry is doing a booming business of late and our neighbors need our
help. I have also been the sad recipient of inquiries for help from the
Hanover Food Pantry; bottom line, hence this e-mail.

First and foremost, there is no shame in reaching out to the Hanover Food
Pantry for help. Things are crazy. Let’s face it, our whole world is
crazy. I know several people with coronavirus, but I know lots more who
have lost their jobs or who have been furloughed in an effort to avoid the
spread of coronavirus. I am so glad you are asking for help, as are the
good folks at the Hanover Food Pantry. Let’s be here for each other;
let’s flatten the curve together. If you would like to receive
services/food from the Hanover Food Pantry, please contact Sally Boutin at
kidsense@comcast.net . There is also a Facebook site named “Hanover Food
Pantry” which can be found at
http://atotw.com/maillist/lt.php?tid=vE9F/UK80/ei/4ILiVMYuee5VxSOCEdLvzTFg6/T/vNoqLt7nDO4RqoN783ZLADJ
. You don’t have to be on Facebook to go to the site; just click on or cut
and paste that link. The pantry is also listed under the town’s website.
Search: hanover-ma.gov and enter “Food Pantry Client Brochure” in the
search box to view the pantry brochure.

And if you are lucky enough to be in a position to help make a donation to
the Hanover Food Pantry, there are multiple ways to accomplish that, as
follows:
• Mail Stop & Shop or Shaw’s gift cards or a check payable to the
“Hanover Food Pantry”, c/o First Baptist Church, 580 Webster Street,
Hanover, MA 02339
• Drop off donations at 580 Webster Street on Mondays between 9:30 a.m. –
11:00 a.m. (If it is a Monday holiday, the ingathering falls to Tuesday at
the same time).

For more information about the Hanover Food Pantry, please contact Sally
Boutin at kidsense@comcast.net or call and leave a message: 781-826-6485.

On-line resources from the South Shore Conservatory

Dear fellow Hanoverians:

The South Shore Conservatory has been hard at work creating on-line
resources for our community. They have a large variety of videos that are
free and on demand at their SSC Online webpage found here:
http://atotw.com/maillist/lt.php?tid=J0w3bJd5enGPuHFGjXwOVUfUv1Z3jyrTjp+V8pg0ajpoqLt7nDNoRqoN783ZLADJ
:
• Read-alongs for little ones created by SSC Preschool and Kindergarten
teachers
• Creative family activities, including short music, dance and drama
workshops
• Faculty and student performances
• Therapeutic activities created by the Creative Arts Therapies team

They hope that these resources will provide opportunities for creative
expression, enrichment and comfort during these troubled times. The more
people who have access to the power of music and the arts, the better! For
more information about the South Shore Conservatory, please contact Anne
Smith-White at a.smithwhite@sscmusic.org .

Show our librarians some love…plus resources for you

Dear fellow Hanoverians:

I received the following press release the same week I heard that the staff
of the John Curtis Library would be furloughed. Thanks to Director Ginny
Johnson for thinking of all of us in this time of personal and professional
stress. Ginny may be reached at vjohnson@ocln.org . Pretty sure she’d
love to hear from you, the patrons of the John Curtis Library…not to
mention since it is National Library Week!

“John Curtis Free Library — The doors to the Library may be closed, but we
are still here for our community.

During National Library Week, we wanted to take a minute to highlight all
that your library is doing for you during this global pandemic. First and
foremost, it’s part of our job to share information about local, state,
and federal resources regarding COVID-19 – everything from how to stay
healthy to helping your neighbors. Our Facebook page has daily information
about resources that may prove useful to you and your family as you
navigate this new normal. Please ‘like’ our page and follow us to be
kept informed.

Our digital collections are expanding and are available 24-7; free to use
with your library card! Don’t have a library card? Register for an
“e-card” at catalog.ocln.org. We are excited to announce that we’ve
had more than 60 new Library card applications in the last 30 days using
this method; thank you, and we hope you enjoy the collections – and
please visit us when we reopen!

Looking for something to read (both in eBook and eAudiobook)? Check out
OverDrive, and its app, Libby (available for both android and iOS devices
via their app stores). More of a magazine browser? Peruse RB Digital
Magazines. How about comics/graphic novels? Prefer to catch up on TV
series or movies? Try Hoopla or RB Digital’s Acorn TV. Want to learn
something new? We offer Great Courses, Niche Academy and CreativeBug.

Need Business, homework, legal or health-related answers? Start with Gale
databases, MorningStar, and Consumer Reports Online. Interested in
exploring your family tree? Use Heritage Quest and explore some of our
other helpful genealogical links. You can find all of our catalogs and
reference databases on our webpage:
http://atotw.com/maillist/lt.php?tid=NghbetRDU4OUG761wd4w58ar9HLRcVkQnefwz5SE1IFoqLt7nDMIRqoN783ZLADJ

Don’t have internet at home? The Library has Wi-Fi – even outside!
You are welcome to use your devices in our parking lot; however, please
observe social distancing.

Not crazy about everything being electronic, and prefer to have an item in
hand? There are carts outside the main door to the Library with a
selection of books for all ages as well as audio and video items for free
for you to take home. We endeavor to add to the cart at least twice a
week, so check back often if you can!

As always, we are answering reference questions – just in a different
way! We are answering emails and responding to voice messages remotely,
and you can message us via our Facebook page. We can help you search the
databases and catalogs we provide, assist in placing holds for when
delivery is back in service, provide ‘what do I read next’ advice, as
well as offer assistance in obtaining an ecard, navigating unemployment and
tax information, and more. Don’t hesitate to ask!

John Curtis Free Library hopes that you and your friends, families, and
associates are safe and healthy. Happy National Library Week! Stand
together but stay apart to flatten the curve. Together we can do this.”

Pandemic response plan for seniors and others at risk

Dear fellow Hanoverians:

I am so proud of my colleagues…it is an honor to work and live in
Hanover. Read on…

Town of Hanover Mobile Integrated Health Pandemic Response Plan
Service begins today!
Hours: 8:00 a.m. – 6:00 p.m.

A State of Emergency currently exists in response to the global pandemic of
COVID-19 virus. In expectation of a growing number of cases, the
Commonwealth of Massachusetts has encouraged communities to develop
programs that might help to safely limit the number of patients seeking
care or testing at hospitals.

The Town of Hanover, collaboratively with all of its departments has
developed a program to address the needs of its most at-risk citizens.
Limitations like social distancing and quarantine create obstacles to
medical care, especially for the isolated elderly and other socially and
medically vulnerable populations.

Therefore, the Board of Health announces the availability of in-home
paramedic visits, testing if criteria are met, and patient follow-up phone
calls, by Hanover nurses, for eligible citizens. Residents 65 or older and
other at-risk residents, who exhibit COVID-19 symptoms of fever, cough,
and/or shortness of breath may call the non-emergency telephone number
(781-826-2335 then press ZERO) at the Emergency Communications Center to
request an in-home evaluation by a paramedic. The service may also be
initiated directly by your physician or by the Telehealth services of your
provider network.

A qualified paramedic in appropriate protective gear will visit, conduct an
evaluation, and through South Shore Health System’s Telehealth service,
will contact a doctor or nurse practitioner to convey the patient’s
status. They may authorize the collection of a testing sample and/or
schedule an appointment for follow-up.

Regardless of the results, the patient will be eligible for follow-up via
telephone by a nurse volunteer who will evaluate current symptoms
(better/same/worse) and facilitate appropriate medical response.

For more information, please see the attached documents, or contact
fred.freeman@hanover-ma.gov or health@hanover-ma.gov.
