Hanover Town Clerk Catherine Harder-Bernier announced today that Early
Voting by Mail for the (formerly May 9th) June 27th, 2020 Annual Town
Election will begin immediately.
The Postal Service routinely estimates that it will take three weeks to
request and receive a ballot under normal circumstances – one week each
for a ballot to be requested, mailed, and returned – even if all
transactions occur within Hanover. Due to COVID-19, the process is even
slower. Given limited in-office work schedules and the need to let paper
sit 24-72 hours to reduce virus transmission, the whole process could
easily take a month. Therefore, it is important that the voting process
begins immediately.
“In an effort to reduce in-person interactions during this time of
international and local pandemic, Hanover residents are heartily encouraged
to vote Early by Mail this spring election season. The state legislature
has for the first time allowed Early Voting by Mail at a local election for
everyone and without an excuse, so let’s keep our fellow voters and our
precious election workers safe and healthy by voting by mail,” said
Harder-Bernier. “To paraphrase New York Governor Cuomo, Hanoverians
should not have to choose between their health and their civic duty,” she
continued.
On the spring Annual Town Election ballot this year will be five candidates
for two Selectman seats, as well as two candidates for two School Committee
seats, and singular candidates for Planning Board, Town Moderator, Board of
Health, Board of Assessors, and the Board of Library Trustees. There is
also a one-year term for Planning Board that will be decided by write-in
votes.
An Early Ballot by Mail may be requested by filling out this form:

, which must include your original signature, and by mailing or e-mailing
it to the Town Clerk’s Office, 550 Hanover Street, Hanover MA, 02339.
Forms may also be deposited in the front door mail slot of Hanover Town
Hall. Mail is being held at Town Hall for 24-72 hours before it is touched
to reduce the risk of virus transmission. Please therefore allow extra
time, at least a week and a half, for the ballot to be returned to you once
we have received your application. The local election was postponed until
June 27th because the total Early Voting by Mail process could take up to a
month.
